Good lord! How many times I watched this as a teen! And boy did I wear out my Kerplunk and Dookie tapes/ CD’s! Ah the 90’s. Good times to be a teen, musically speaking ! We had loud “obnoxious” stuff like this to be loud and obnoxious to, but we still had all the greats on regular rotation (hard rock, classic rock, punk, new wave etc.) from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s to give us context.

Dookie got selected by the US Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, and/or aesthetically significant".

To this day this is still my favorite rock song of all time. It was the first song I remember where all the other guys in school knew all the words and sang and talked about it constantly (5th/6th grade) forcing me to learn it because it was such a damn earworm and so easy to memorize, and I must say, they had great taste.

Sadly, I recently found out that he drowned in the ocean a few years ago, leaving being a little daughter. In some ways we were like you and other ways we were not. I’m 44 and 14 when this came out. Society was much different back then. Teens of that time were different. Different teen culture. More edgy and more rebellious. Different fashion styles and more communicative. Goes without saying, time changes a lot of things.

This music has kept me alive in very rough times. Times I know I belonged in the hospital but I’m not trusting enough to go. Anyway, thank you Green Day.

This was the first CD I ever bought, probably around 1993. I asked my mom if I could get an album called "Dookie" 😂🤣 after that I got their older stuff from around 1991 before they were mainstream, "1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours" which was a combination of another album and a single I think, 39 Smooth and 1,000 Hours. Quite the different sound they had then from this album. Hard to believe they've been around more than 25 years now!

I worked at Agnews Developmental Center in Santa Clara where this music video was filmed by Green Day. I was there in 1994, but I don't recall hearing about Green Day filming there. They must have filmed it secretly on a weekend. My office was literally a stone's throw away from the building where this music video was filmed. Other films were made there as well. Those were the days!

Last year, during the week of my sophomore year, my English teacher gave me a ride home from school and started blasting this song in his car, it was a pretty fun, relaxing drive. He bought Slurpees for the both of us on the way home too. That was a great day.
