LYRICS
First thing that you’ll notice is some separation from each other
Yes it’s a lie we’ve been believing since time immemorial
There was an apple there was a snake there was division
There was a split there was a conflict in the fabric of life
One became two and then everyone was out for themselves
Everyone was pitted against each other conflict ruled the realm
All our devotions and temperaments are pulled from different wells
We seem to easily forget we are made of the same cells
To my boy all that energy so vital
Love your hues and your blues in equal measure
Your comings and your goings away
My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze
Second thing you’ll notice is that often we think that there’s not enough
It might feel dark it might feel lonely and you wonder why you’re here
You may be overcome with darkness and a sense of hopelessness
But it won’t matter if you keep the cord connected to the oneness
To my girl oh your innocence and fire
When you reach out I am here hell or high water
this nest is never going away
My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze
And this cord is unbreakable
This pilot light is there in your pocket
And this bond beyond unshakeable
Even if we all forget, all at the same time
If we forget at the same time
To my boy my precious gentle warrior
To your sweetness
And your strength and exploring
May this bond stay with you through all your days
My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze
To my girl oh your innocence and fire
When you reach out I am here hell or high water
this nest is never going away
My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze
To my boy
first thing that you’ll notice is that everything is temporary
To my girl
next thing you might notice is that we will always be a family
to my boy
My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze

“My mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze.” Even if, like me, you are not a parent, I think this is something we should all hold in our hearts and minds as we interact with others, especially those closest to us. Like, are my words and actions here stoking the coals or am I essentially behaving like a human fire hose? It’s also a good description of the role artists can play in society.

Thank you. I heard your song Ablaze on Today and dedicated it to my son Stephen. His birthday was yesterday, July 30th. He turned 42 and his Dad and I spent 3 days with him to celebrate in Saint Augustine, Fl. A break from his job and some relief from our "self-isolation" and the pandemic. We were also celebrating his 20 years of working in 911, as a manager now for 2 years. We are so proud of him.

We lost our son, Stephen in Feb. 13th, 2021. This post was about his last birthday with us. If only we could bring back this day. We spent 22 days in the hospital while Stephen fought off pneumonia and some unknown infection.

I love all music of Alanis Morissette but her last songs is more incredible than ever. I stay all day listening her songs and special this one. Thanks God I had the opportunity to go in her show in old times. I hope I can have this opportunity again.
