Yeah, it seems to be out of stock almost everywhere :( But there is hope - the brand was taken over by Elephone again, and there may be some newer models coming soon. Not sure of the faith of the Explorer 3 and whether there will be another batch.

Yeah, for a budget mic it is good. However if you are looking for premium audio quality - using an external recorder has a lot more advantages.

did it come with an external mic? i see on this review he says you cant use one but on the amazon questions part akaso said you can you just cant turn off the internal mic so you have to remove that audio in post.

When I download the files into my computer they come out as MOV. That does not work in Premiere Pro . So do I have to put all my footage in a converter before exporting to PR?

Premiere Pro works fine with .mov files. Perhaps you have to update the version, or add some additional codecs, but they should be readable.

For some reason my akaso v50 pro looks a bit grainy when I watch it on my computer or upload to youtube. Can you help me out? i shot in 4k30fps and 1080p 60fps

Looks pretty good. I think I'm going to buy one of these as they still seem one of the best choices at this price point. I don't like to spend too much on action cams because new and better models come out quite frequently.

Yup - this is quite a good choice for the money. Right now they offer an upgraded model that even supports 4K @ 60FPS (called "SE").

I like your detail analysis .Could you please tell which sd card you have used for this camera .I cannot start my camera with sandisk extreme 64gb card .

I almost always use Adobe Premiere. For mixing video from an action cameras you may go for more basic solutions. VSDC used to be a good freeware device.

Very well prepared video mate. I’m struggling with the camera when it goes to sleep mode , don’t know how to get back on or even turn it off. Also we I turned WiFi , it jammed and the only way is to get the battery out to turn it off. Any idea to solve this ?

The described situation makes me thing it may be software-related. Try to search Akaso's facebook page and website for a firmware upgrade - most likely it will fix these problems.

Great videos! How would compare this camera against the Firefly 8SE? I've been looking at some reviews and can't decide between these two. They are about the same price right now in Canada...

Both of them are good. The 1080p on the Firefly is better, and overall - the chips and optics in the firefly is one step above the Akaso V50 Pro. However the V50 Pro can shoot 4K and stabilize it - something that firefly 8SE cannot do. If 1080p is fine for you - Firefly; if 4K is needed - having EIS sounds more reasonable to me.

The SJ8 Pro is more premium, and although there are bunch of faulty units out there, the specs and performance is better.

You cannot; The DJI Osmo action has a secondary screen, and we still expect the GoPro's media mod, which will be able to do that. Also - the Mokacam Alpha has a tiltable screen.

Yes, it will work fine, but you will have to turn the video around in post-production. So maybe the answer should be "no" if you are not planning to do post-production 😇😎

Get in touch with them via their facebook page. Sometimes you have to enable the GPS on the smartphone.

quick update, got the camera and very pleased, no problems, weather has been awful so not been able to go far with it but the quality is very good and the stills are good as well.

Nothing - just auto settings. I noticed that the sound gets improved if you get closer to the microphone for 10 seconds and then it starts to sound better.

In my package there was no external microphone in the assembly. And usually external mics are better. If you want even better quality - get a separate recorder - quality is way better.

I like a lot the Hohem iSteady Mobile lately - and works fine with an actioncam plate. The iSteady Pro v2 is also good.

Yes, it does. YOu can stream via microHDMI.

Still probably one of if not the best action cams around the $100 mark, which is crazy because it’s been almost 3 years since it was initially released. Seems like action camera development has kind of slowed in the past years. Also I think Akaso has upgraded some of the camera’s features such as better EIS and low light, so it’s even better now compared to 2018.

Avoid using 60FPS. I almost always use the default settings, and shoot in 30FPS - and that is good enough. Most often shots taken are in 4K. With an action camera - if lighting is bad, the quality of image suffers...

The possibility is that you have a counterfeit item. 4K should be there... Did you try a factory reset? Do the menus look like the menus from the review?

Hi Rami, thank you for these questions. AE meter is supposed to be the AutoExposure meter - meaning that you can choose which area of the screen/frame will define the exposure levels. Could be useful when shooting sunset, for example. Scene mode is a choice for switching between different color modes, which have predefined presets. I usually stick to the auto, as anything on top of it usually reduces the quality, unless if it is done in postprocessing via professional software. EV = exposure value - which can increase or decrease the brightness. Hopefully that helps. If you have more questions - feel free to write back here, or send over an email.

Sounds bad! Well - if you do that - it will void your warranty. But you can try removing the front panel and see if you can tilt the lens and adjust it.

It slides, but there is a lock mechanism - you will have to press the claws close to each-other and it will start moving, and you will be able to release it.

Please HELP! I am having issue with my Akaso V50 Pro. When I turn it on the screen is only showing me the logo or a black screen. Whenever I try recording a video the video is all black. Also I can't connect to my phone because it keeps saying that it's connected to other devices even if it's not. I reach out to the seller on Lazada And they told that it could be that the wire connected to the sensor is loose. I had it checked yesterday in different repair shops here, but they said they don't do action cameras. I just hope that it's with the firmware because I don't want to have it sent back to the China and pay for the shipment without assurance that it will be fixed. Thank you!

Nah, sounds like a firmware issue or a chipset firmware. Ask for replacement or for a firmware update package.

I so wonder if this camera will fit in my activeon cases... This camera is solo similar to my Activeon cf gold. The ports/sd card slot, buttons, battery door, tripod mount and the overall form factor looks identical. Please, someone tell me if I'm right

sure - it happens automatically, and you can configure that as well. Usually action cameras switch off the display after 30 seconds or one minute.😇

You should mostly ask yourself how important is EIS (stabilization) on 4K footage.

@@Puckb0y Both cameras are comparable, yes. In my opinion the 8SE has better quality in both 1080p and 4K. Its only disadvantage is lack of EIS in 4K. So if you are going to shoot in FullHD primarily - better get the Firefly model.

Each of the mentioned cameras are either close, or as good (maybe better) than gopro hero 5. SJ8 pro is the latest one and looks promising, despite the issues I had during testing. Yi4k plus is quite a massive hit in the USA.

Transfer will work, yes. A bit slow, as it is 2.4GHz only, but will work. If your tablet has a microSD slot - this will be way faster.

@@itzjustemily4661 Depends on the resolution of recording. 4K will take forever, as the files will be a few gigabytes. If shot in 1080p, then it will take around 10-15 minutes.

Awesome Review, lots of technical details shared and some great footage captured - It feels like MGCOOL was in the hurry to close their shop, hence they can't do much with their product and AKASO picked it up from there...Anyhow 2k option is a nice addition, Explorer 3's 1080p footage is not very good wish it offers 2k too. One thing the Date is quite odd though.

Hey Arijit - you are nailing it with an awesome analysis (again! :D ). There is a minor update about MGCool - there finally is some movement with their facebook page, and looks like Elecam are bringing the brand in-house. They mentioned about forthcoming model which will be again labeled as ELE(cam). Not sure about Akaso - they seem to have no relation with MGCool, at least not officially. By the way - explorer 3 should be able to shoot at 2k too. At least I can remember having seen this menu. And overall performance should be very similar. According to the Akaso team there is a firmware update coming, we will wait and see. The date... it is one of the things I have the most when they happen :D Forgot to configure the camera not to show the date. I usually never adjust that, and apparently forgot to disable the stamp. And that's the default. Pretty confident this model was NOT existing at that timeframe.

Thanks for the reply, MGCOOL Explorer 3 don't have 2k video option and I'm sure as I didn't find any in mine and your review also say so. Also....the soundtrack after three mins are breathtaking.

5:30 - 5:40 : The Darks are really dark on this camera. Far objects have very little detail. I am not an expert, but maybe thats the difference between a budget action camera and the more expensive GoPros.

Hi Michael, i just bought the Akaso V50X, really like the 4K 30 footage from it but ohh the audio is awfull, if i'd known about the dreadful audio i think i wouldn't have bought it, do you think the V50 Pro is the better of the two camera's, it seems as though the audio is much better on the V50 Pro.

I don't think the V50 Pro has better audio. At least the unit I've tested was bad... Generally - to get good audio - make sure to be outdoors and close to the camera. Try playing around with the volume controls and switch off any "wind reduction" or whatever similar features.

It does - with a later firmware version an external mic is supported. Could also be related to a revision of the hardware.

Hy. I have observed on amazon that there is another name that has identical products to Akaso and MgCool. Check Rollei. I bet the recipe is the following: buy the rights and brand the device with your name, maybe change something small( or big, like the image sensor)

Wow - indeed - the same. Most likely the hardware is also identical. This one is getting iconic - will soon be two years of having the model on the market. Most likely the quality is the same. Also - there is now a "SE" version that supports 4K @ 60fps - just as the Rollei one.

Even a basic class10 would work if you don't shoot 4K. For 4K i've tested u3 Sandisk and a U3 Samsung card - both were fine.

Had the v50 for a few days and I cannot get the video to record any longer then 8 mins & 54 sec. Yeah the app just keeps crashing on my Note phone. Thank you.

Are you shooting in 4K? If that is the case - most likely you are reaching 4GB file size, which is the maximum supported by the Fat32 file system. SHoot in a lower resolution and you will get longer recordings.

Does anyone have an issue where the videos wont play on their pc without converting it?

No - they work fine. Maybe you have missing codecs. Try VLC player, KM Player or POT Player.

I've bought the V50 Pro few weeks ago, the one I have can't record 4K video for more than 8 seconds (Recording stops after 8 seconds). no issue with other video resolutions. I tried contacting AKASO support team....no reply so far.

I had the same problem with 4K and 2.5 K and turned out to be because of my microSD card. When using Mixia or Samsung I had no problems. Toshiba and O.V both were causing this condition.

Because the case is sealed and besides stopping water, it also stops the sounds from the outside.

This one is good. Good choices also are Mijia 4K (no underwater case in the retail box), Firefly 8SE, SJCAM SJ8 Plus/Pro (slightly above the budget), SJ7 Star, ThiEye T5e. These are more than enough :-)

Better get a microSD card based on the U3 specs.

This onme works with most Class 10 Cards. Usually having U3 is the best choice, especially for 4K.

I have a question, I wanna buy an action cam that manage 4k 30fps EIS, drive mode, and a decent quality in night video, that's why I'm not so sure to buy an Akaso V50 elite touch screen ( the price with 15% of discount is about 120$ ) . I would like to mount it on a motorbike. What's your opinion? Can you give me a suggestion? Is this v50 pro better than elite? Yi4k for 75€ is a better choice? I hope you can understand my english

Hi Mamba, your English is fantastic, no worries about it. yi 4K as far as I remember is capable of stabilizing in 1080p only. If you need the 4K - then Akaso models are a good idea, and I believe the V50 Pro has better low light capabilities. Right now this is a really great deal: bit.ly/2C9gMGa THe latest SJ8 Pro are more or less free of bugs, and they used to cost 289. A price of 163 is much more reasonable.

Check the THiEye T5 Edge or the ThiEye e7. Even more budget friendly is the Xiaomi Seabird.
