    Great video! I did buy the AirTV Anywhere. Mixed results. I was able to set it up and connect it to my outdoor over air (OA) antenna. The downside is the lesser quality (pixelization/ drops the signal) of some (about 4 of my top 8 channels) of the OA channels This is in comparison to my OA antenna being connected directly to my TV. I've been talking to Sling TV help via phone and twitter. I have to call them back tomorrow. If can't resolve, I will probably return it.

    Thank you for this review, sir. Have they updated the software to allow for extended recording in any way? I've read/heard that the Tablos let you extend the recordings, although I'm not sure how customizable they let you get. I'd like the option to just record a channel for, say 12 hours. It's a bit excessive, but I watch Nascar. Even a little rain causes massive delays. They never use rain tires on ovals, just road courses. Anyhow, thanks again. I've seen a couple of your videos before. Now, I've subscribed.

    Pair with an HD antenna and a streaming device to get local channels like ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and more* integrated into your SLING TV guide (Copy and Pasted from AirTv). So the answer is yes. If you can stream in your own network,you can stream it 10k miles away.

    Yes you give a very nice presentation. My concern is watching something while it is being recorded. Do I have to wait until it is fully recorded to watch? Watching for instance a rewards show like the Grammy's and wanting to skip through parts while it's recording. I have seen different answers. Also another review said it gives you no thumbnail pictures so you don't know where to skip over commercials once recorded and that would also be a problem. Thank you.

  • @HomeTheaterHobbyist

    Thank you! After thinking about this a little, I would wait until the recording to finish to ensure it records the entire program. I'm not an expert but since it is writing the data to the hard drive, watching the show while recording and skipping around could cause data lost. I didn't run into that during my testing but I'd hate to say it's ok and someone loses part of a show. Hopefully this helps! 🙂

    Great video & I learned a lot about this product. I want to know some basic questions that I don't believe was covered. I apologize if they were. What if you have multiple TV's? I assume most people do. My family has 5 TV's & I know the Anywhere unit only handles 4 streams so at least one of them cannot be on when the other 4 are being used. Do you need a separate AirTV Anywhere unit for each TV? Or does the antenna feed the signals into a single Anywhere and then connects with the separate TV's independently via wired or wi-fi? Also, what if your antenna placement to get the best quality signal is far away from the location of the router that will distribute the wifi or ethernet output to the TV's geographically dispersed throughout the house? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

  • @HomeTheaterHobbyist

    @HomeTheaterHobbyist

    A single Anywhere can stream content to a max of 4 TVs simultaneously as long as it’s not recording at the same time. If it’s recording the max reduces by the number of simultaneous recordings. I’m not sure if you can have 2 Anywhere’s on the same network within your home. I don’t know how the app would deal with it. The Anywhere’s may need to be on separate networks like one on the main network while the other is on the guest network. Then you’d need to make sure you assigned the TVs to the correct network. But that’s just a guess if it doesn’t work on a single network, I don’t have a second one to try it 🙂 In my testing the best video quality is via Ethernet so if you can get a cable to the box you’ll get the best service. It definitely works via WiFi don’t get me wrong but Ethernet is better.

    hey there, if anyone can help figuring out: I'm interested in broadcasting my live cable subscription channels on the go, to view television while outside home. I'm from Romania, and the cable subscription is DVB C (if I'm understanding correctly). Would this device be able to provide this functionality? At the moment I have an HDHomerun that provide this through Plex that works on a computer, but I would like an option to work independently, without the computer. Many thanks in advance!

    Great review. Very detailed and helpful. I do have a question: I've read elsewhere that you need a minimum of 200 mbps to use this device as it taps into your WIFI. I have 100, plus my modem in on the far side of my house from where my Roku TV and antenna are setup (and I can't move either one). If I understand the Air TV setup correctly, it takes a signal via coax from my antenna and sends it via WIFI to my modem, then my modem broadcasts that signal back to my Roku TV? If so, that signal would be degraded substantially, especially with other devices using that same signal, and it's too far for me to run Ethernet.

  • @HomeTheaterHobbyist

    @HomeTheaterHobbyist

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'm not sure about the 200mbps but your understanding of how it works is correct. It takes a coax signal (antenna), sends it your router which is then sent to your TV. When I used it over wifi only I notice choppy video signal at times, which I thought maybe due to poor antenna signal (this was true for some channels) but once I connected an ethernet cable from my router a lot of those issues went away. This was true for live and recorded content, which is why I recommended that type of connection if possible. My wife wasn't a huge fan of the ethernet cable snaking through the dinning area 🤣🤣 but she knew it was for test purposes. If you already have the Anywhere try it with and without the ethernet cable to see if you can tell a difference. Hopefully this helps!

  • @FredHolmeswriter

    @FredHolmeswriter

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@HomeTheaterHobbyist Unfortunately my wife would kill me as well if I ran an ethernet cable across our house! :-) And running it through the attic isn't really an option. And yes, I did read that you needed 200 mbps, but as you know, speed doesn't necessarily equate to signal strength. I have an extender between my router and TV, so I could try running an ethernet cable from that to the TV and see if it helped, but I hate spending the money on an AIR TV box just to have something that won't record clearly. One final question, then I promise not to pester you anymore. In terms of broadcasting power, is there a substantial difference between the AIR TV 2 and the ANYWHERE?

    For anyone dealing with Sling or any DVR that won't let you extend the recordings, you can try to just record a show or two before and after whatever you're watching, especially if it's sports or something that may run way over. It's an annoying workaround, and perhaps obvious, but in case someone reading hadn't thought of it before, there you go. Soapbox: It's infuriating sometimes when you record a sporting event, go to watch it, and they change the channel they're airing it on. With the advent of digital, the software should be smart enough to "follow" the event and continue recording it. Give each event a unique identifier code and have the DVR scan all channels for that code. Maybe some systems do this. I don't recall one that does.

    @@geraldmckee6556Ok, but perhaps you should restate your point, clearly. Because I read that you previously stated, "if your internet goes down". If that's your point, I suggested that a powerbank could power your internet on an emergency basis. So what point did I miss? If the internet goes down for other reasons, call your provider & wait, like we have to do. 😀

    Local broadcasts are crisp and look great, but recorded OTA content from the DVR is almost unwatchable. Constant, non-stop stuttering, buffering, and crapping out.

    Really? If the live channels look good then your antenna positioning is good. Try connecting an Ethernet cable between your router and the Anywhere. If possible try connecting your TV/device running the Sling app to your router via Ethernet as well. If doing this clears up the recorded experience you know it’s an internal network issue but if it doesn’t, call customer service and tell them what you tried, they may have other ideas. 😞
