As previously stated, an Irish visa invitation letter should be written by whichever friend(s) or family member(s) you will plan to stay with in Ireland. You will not have to include an invitation letter with your visa application if you don't plan to stay with any friends or family members during your trip.

@@mohammedali-rh7cq It's not so much the visa and more of whether you can prove that you'll leave the country or won't be overstaying to work there - in most cases, a return ticket or proof of capability to support yourself during the stay (credit card and bank statements or sufficient cash) will do. If she had shown her return ticket upfront, she likely won't run into that issue. A letter of invitation is also a means of proving that your stay is supported by the issuer.

We also don’t need to have our cars issued with a Roadworthy Certificate every year in Victoria, only when a car is sold or bought. It cannot be sold or bought and registered without one. Our compulsory third party insurance is included in our registration every year by the government and the car will be seized if unregistered. If a car is found to have minor defaults it is issued with what is locally called a canary as the label stuck onto your car is yellow, you have a certain amount of time to have the issues remedied and it is illegal to remove the canary.

I can't help but feel that the passenger who had his hand luggage taken off of him and put in the hold was overly criticised by the immigration official. In fairness to him, he did have his travel documents with him and his only fault was cooperating by handing over his bag and momentarily forgetting that his passport was inside. The way that airports work is that you go through immigration and then baggage claim and then customs. As trying to get into your seat in an aircraft and having a CA have your bag taken off and put in the hold, it is easy to forget to take out your passport and anything else you may need at immigration. Intentionally not arriving at an international airport without any documents is 'crazy' as he put it, but this man evidently DID have them and therefore NOT crazy.

Sometimes one can also need a passport for Domestic flights. They had an issue with this in Australia awhile back. (Maybe sorted now ?). Some people were boarding a plane in Sydney and flying to Perth (literally thousands of miles away, the far side of the Australian continent, about 5+ hours flight time). Although they had normal domestic id on them, like a Sydney/NSW driver's licence, because it was an "international" flight, as it was after a stopover in Perth Australia, going on to Singapore or somewhere, passengers had to have valid passports, even for just the domestic portion of the flight.

"Every month, nearly 2 million cars cross the 500 km border ....." WRONG. First of all, cars don't do things on their own so CARS do not cross the border. They may be driven or carried on a transporter but they don't do it because they take it into their engine management systems to go for a drive one day. Many of the crossings are made by a small number of cars. You only have to be a commuter working typically 22 days a month and you will cross the border in the SAME CAR 44 times. Some people living close to the border make return trips several times a month to save money buying some things in the Republic, other things on British territory. Other people use their cars to make return journeys across the border several times a month to visit friends or relations or just to have a drink or for a mixture of all of those reasons. It would be an unusual month in which more than 100,000 cars are driven across the border. "2 million a month" would mean more than half the cars on the entire island of Ireland would have to be driven across the border in each month yet 90% of cars on the island of Ireland have never been driven anywhere near the border.

Everybody knows that. But Northern Ireland is. And UK and IE are Common Travel Area members (sort of mini Schengen area with also Channel Islands and Man). Which means a European national with no right to live in the UK could potentially use free movement rights to enter Ireland, and then cross into the UK undetected. So Garda has to assess the likelihood of this being abused, even if you are European national. Interesting little special situation.
