Wonderful video. I plan to watch it several times. Single pilot flying of light twins in IMC is one of the most demanding kind of flying. You clearly have mastered it and I thank you for sharing.

Jerry, Great to see you back again,... I don't fly the Navion IFR, but sure do enjoy watching you fly IFR. I have friends that do fly IFR and the Navion is so equipped , but I'm not. Maybe that's why I live in the Mojave desert Ya think ! ...Lol ! Again, welcome back, nice two videos... Ron

As always Jerry, great job flying the airplane and way ahead of the airplane. I’m VFR only, flying IFR is a totally different ball game, you make it look easy. Go Chiefs 🏈

Reminds me of my decade-plus of air-commuting to work daily. How many times did i do the same "now, what was the ATIS again?" Of course, here in SoCal it was more often low IFR marine layer rather than actual rain, but during the "season" you definitely get pretty darn current!

Good Evening ,Jerry I am huge fan of yours , I am planing to buy C421, and after reading hundreds of pages on Beechtalk about C421, I am confident its very reliable aircraft If maintained well, ,My questions is, I want to operate from 2400 feet runway ,230 AMSL, no obstructions on both ends, plane which I plan to buy is equipped with wing lets, which should reduce the take off roll ( due to bigger wing area ) ?? Cesna AFM spec says its doable ? I will always be operating under 700-800 lbs under gross , pls advise ?

Were any thunderstorms forecast? Why not run the tilt up to see what the radar tops are of that heavy rain shower? What is the width of your radar beam?

no convective activity and none forecast , radar beam around 30-40 degrees www.garmin.com/en-US/p/207

Hi j. It's unclear to me why you "activate vectors to final'. Because whenever the waypoint you're tracking to in the approach is highlighted in magenta, the approach is already activated - then, nothing to do except to ARM the App. I never activate vectors to final on a GPS approach bc the GPS deletes some waypoints. (Better to activate a leg in Flt plan via menu button if you happen to be intercepting two points) I'm thinking that when "Activate vectors to final" is in your checklist it may trick you to thinking you've armed the approach and then you may forget to - like in this flight. Best to just let the 750 fly the approach you loaded and then one simple task. -- ARM (sometimes just for interest I activate Vectors to Final when being vectored to an ILS - but that also is necessary) Would be interested in your thoughts

There are a lot of points here you brought up 1. Yes the approach is activated when navigating to a point inside the approach but contrary to your post IT IS NOT ACTIVATING VECTORS TO FINAL 2. You need to activate vectors to final on some approaches to get the glide slope diamond instead of the advisory arrow because that is not activated until the FAF is reached 3. The GTN-750 does not delete earlier waypoints when choosing a closer waypoint however the GNS-530/430 does do what you described 4. Arming the approach is a separate function if you want the autopilot to fly a coupled approach THANKS FOR RIDING ALONG

@@Jerry.Wagner Thanks J. I was not aware the 750 held all waypoints when ATF is engaged. But I have 2 follow up q’s ( I realise you’re posting for fun so pls feel free not to go to the trouble of answering)1. How do differentiate those approaches you feel require activation vectors to final and 2. If you review your video and note when you actually activated Vectors to Final - why did you do it at that time and what was that approach’s your particular indication to activate VTF at that time ? Thanks

not knowing which approach displays the diamond on the glide slope that the Autopilot will couple to unless you activate vectors to final tells me it's smart practice to do it on every approach, I activate VTF when on the inbound course because it then chooses the FAF as the waypoint to navigate to so doing it prior to the inbound course turns you in early

Scott, it's not activating the approach, that occurs when you choose a fix to go to inside the approach, what you tried to say is you need to "ARM" the approach to get the autopilot to couple, I am ready for unfamiliar airports, see this link kzread.info/dash/bejne/an98yrKsZaqyc9Y.htmlsi=Qwf_DoSW1yiwkHud&t=1787

That’s a quick turn to 315 after takeoff. No waiting to the normal 400ft AGL before turning?

Noise Abatement turn so my pain in the ass neighbors don't complain, however when IFR the noise abatement procedure is waived

Hello Jerry hope you are well. Can you point me to the noise abatement procedure at KOAK that suggests the early turn (prior to 400 AGL)? I fly out of KOAK some for work and have looked at the Jepp charts concerning noise abatement as well as the fly quiet Oakland website pilot guidance and am not seeing anything. Thanks.@@Jerry.Wagner
