    It’s all going to depend on your goals and desires. I find that asking yourself these questions can be helpful...Do you want to keep your roots and continue to grow and establish yourself within your current community? Do you want to continue to work on your education? Do you already have a civilian job that you have invested your time and energy into? If the answer to these questions is ‘yes’ then perhaps the AF Reserve, which is part time, is the answer for you. If you are looking to get away and start new adventures away from your current location, then perhaps active is the way to go. Although, joining the Air Force Reserve is a new and exciting adventure as well!

    I really like these videos they're a very nice insight on the main points. So, I have a question, my parents always told me that i'm not allowed to join any type of military jobs, but joining the air force has always kinda stuck around in my mind. Considering i'm only 16 I still have time, but do you have any really good reasons I could tell them so they'll at least consider it, if I ever choose to go?

  • @mirandagollnick

    @mirandagollnick

    8 жыл бұрын

    Hey DaiJa! For me it was the opposite, my mom wanted me to join and I said "HELL NO!" and a year later I made my own decision to join. If I were you I would take them with you to meet with a recruiter so they can hear what the Air Force is all about. Your child joining the military can be a scary thought! But most of the time its just because they don't really know a lot about it. Just try to educate them and make it known that its something you are very passionate about!

    Great video! So when you get assigned to your first base how long do stay on average? I'm curious because I don't want to stay in a dorm for multiple years and would prefer to rent an apartment near base.

  • @mylescrawford1871

    @mylescrawford1871

    7 жыл бұрын

    You will stay an average of 4 years on a stateside base, first term airman will usually spend an average of 2-3 years in dorms before they have the option to move out of the dorms and receive BAH. Everything overseas is different, 99% of the time you will just stay in the dorms (if single) until your overseas assignment (average of 3 years) is up. There are excepts to all of this but do not count on them. Dorm life is different for everyone and it can be a good or bad experience depending on how you make it. I really do enjoy it. Yes! Their was a lot of older women in BMT. We actually just had a man come to my base in from tech school and he just turned 40. And when you leave tech school as an E3 you won't be an E4 for about two years, depending on if you make BTZ or anything.

    With that in mind, perhaps you'd be interested in Reserve. With the Air Force Reserve, you will not be required to relocate. You will perform your military duty at the AF Reserve unit closest to your home. The only time you will be away from your home base is when you are at Basic Training, Technical Training, Annual Tours (may be performed at home base or at another AFB either in the US or overseas) and if you are ever mobilized for war or national emergency.

    Hi! Thank you so much for making these videos!! I was wondering if you could answer a question i have about job selection! So, i know i want mental health services as my job because im majoring in psychology right now and i want my job to somehow be able to be useful outside, if i ever decide to get out. And i can definitely qualify for it as far as my asvab score goes. I know i have to give the career counselor at meps or my recruiter the list of the top 10 jobs i want. And from my understanding, my recruiter will call me when one of those jobs open up. So i guess my question is, lets say dental assistant is number three on my top ten, and i get a call saying i can go in as a dental assistant, am i allowed to say no and just wait till they offer me mental health services when its open? Im just afraid of having a job i know i wont be interest in and i dont want my recruiter to be annoyed with say now multiple times if that ends up happening.

    Yes! This is your career and you don't have to take a job you won't want. This is something you will be doing for many years. Also- mental health is actually on the short falls list right now with 40 openings (meaning they REALLY need people). So you shouldn't have a problem getting it!

    I’m halfway through my bachelors degree in nursing but I haven’t been accepted yet. I have to wait an additional year to get my GPA up to secure my application and at this point I would much rather join the air force and be apart of something greater. I’m very sensitive so that’s the only thing holding me back from joining and also that I won’t be able to pursue my nursing career until I am out. But I’ve always wanted to also do sonography so I think the air force would be great for that. But I’m so on the fence.. do you think going for that degree would be beneficial?

    Going for your BSN would be an awesome path to take. The challenges and rewards will be worth the effort you are experiencing now. However, if you would like to gain Air Force Reserve training and experience while you are working toward your goal to become an RN, you can do that too. And we can help you pay for your education. Once you complete your BSN, you will be able to become an officer and join the Nurse Corps in the Air Force Reserve.

    I’ve never personally been in the career field but I have known people who were very satisfied with the job of a material manager. If you are good and enjoy organizing, acquiring, distributing and being accountable for the Air Force Reserve’s valuable assets and inventory then this is the career for you. There are also so many different types of organizations that have material managers assigned, you would have the ability to experience assignments with units that range from aircraft maintenance to civil engineering.

    Hey gal 👋 quick question about responsibilities in the civilian life . Say you have pending bills, car bills, phone bills . Do you recommend saving before you leave to go basic. Enough to get you through tech school?

    Awesome question! Yes, planning for your financial responsibilities for when you are away at training is a very important step in your decision making and recruitment processes. You will need to do a personal review of your monthly expenses and compare them to your projected military income and other income sources to ensure you will have enough to cover all your expenses while you are away.

    Quick question(s): 1) Are we not allowed to have laptops/ipads given to us by family after graduation to bring to tech school? 2) If I have a dark orange suitcase that's 28x24 instead of 26x24 brought to me (also for tech school), how strict are they on the size measurement? Many thanks!

    If it’s just a small basic makeup assortment, you could bring it to basic training and have it locked up with your other personal items for the duration. You could also purchase new makeup when you get to technical school or you can box it up before you leave for basic training and ask a friend or family member to mail it to you when you get to your technical school.

    A couple of things.. FAIL or wash outs from Tech School, the Air Force can decide to put you in a couple of very undesirable jobs, that they need filled. Cooks and Cops. Security Forces are filled with 'last chance' rehashes from other Tech Schools. OR.. they can just kick you out completely. "Unable to adapt to military standards" Honorable Discharge, but absolutely no benefits.. then you're back a Walmart or McDonalds, and living in your mom's basement. Second thing. You pass Tech School.... You are ALWAYS monitored and supervised at your next duty station. Don't be afraid you are going to have to keep an F-16 flying all by yourself. CDC's she's right, these are a series of smallish booklets, 30-60 pages long.. a few self tests included, once you study one and complete it, you will be given a test on that CDC.. once passed, you will be given another booklet CDC. Depends on your job/career, as to how many of these CDC's you will have to go through. These are all done after your normal shift, on your own time in the barracks. It works best to team up with another doing the same CDC and make it a small study group. Lastly, Your first assignment. RARELY will you get an overseas assignment right out of Tech School... The AF wants to trained Stateside proficient in your skills, before investing a lot more money to send you abroad. My first assignment was to Barksdale AFB LA. about 18-20 months there, and out of the blue came orders to Ramstein AB Germany. You just never know.... TDY's (Temporary Duty Assignments) come up.. whenever the need arises. Good luck, have fun.. Its an adventure. Your life will change for the better, and you will never be the same. When you go home and visit your old friends, you're really going to appreciate the change in yourself.

    After you graduate from your technical school, as a member of the AF Reserve, you will return home and now you are only participating with the Air Force Reserve one weekend per month and two weeks per year. If you are on active duty, once you complete technical school, you will be stationed at an Air Force base somewhere either in the United States or overseas for 4-6 years, depending on your contract. With active duty you are working full time for the Air Force and with the AF Reserve you are only working part time.
