Summed up: 1) don’t cut your hair super short 2) bring a good pair of tweezers, and don’t use nail polish at all 3) if you’re on birth control, stay on it 4) don’t bring the crappiest product because it’s the smallest. Bring traveling containers instead 5) 3 in 1 shampoo is great 6) if you have a bf and you’re shipping out, just know that there is so much out there and you have no idea. If you don’t wanna leave them, it’s okay. Don’t leave them. But there’s a lot of opportunities out there. Don’t not go because of him.

Miranda made a really great point when she hit on the "what should I do if I'm in a relationship and want the join, but don't necessarily want to leave them or hurt them by going." Joining is never a bad idea. If your relationship is real, that time apart will only make your bond stronger, if not, then like she said there's a whole world out there for you to experience new things and get out of your comfort zone. I know people that've gotten married right after bmt and some right before. One of my brothers got married right before to his high school sweet heart and now their divorced while a close buddy of mine married a girl while he was in tech school that he only started dating a few months before bmt and they're happy as can be with a handsome baby boy. BMT won't ruin a strong relationship. If it's meant to be, they'll be there for you when you get out. So take the leap and everything will work out in the end!

Maddy Sallee I've been thinking about signing up to be in the Air Force too. My husband is a Navy veteran and he's been answering any questions I have as well as encouraging me to do my research (and I'm pretty much cramming, trying to learn a ton). I still don't quite know how things will go, but I'm starting to lean more towards joining so I suppose there's a chance I might be seeing a recruiter soon. I hope everything is going well for you!

I'm engaged with a 2 year old son and I'm choosing to go in. BMT by summer is the goal. My fiance was very scared and hesitant about me going, but not once did he try to talk me out of it. If whoever you're with truly loves you, they will support you and encourage you to be the best version of yourself you can be. Even if that means leaving them. It's just 2 months. They can visit you at tech school, so it's not like you'll go months and months without seeing them unless you choose not to visit each other at tech school. I have my own personal set of reasons for going in, as I'm sure both of you do. But I guided my fiance into being more comfortable with my choice by mentioning how HE benefits. The family coverage on insurance. The ability to utilize my GI bill when I'm out so he can go to college. The fact that he won't HAVE to work and kill himself physically by being at a demanding job just to make good money. He can spend time with his son, go to the gym, play video games, find new hobbies, etc etc. Given that I will be married going in, the premise is the same. Your guy can only benefit from you going in. The time apart will suck. Entirely suck. But you get phone calls, you write letters every minute you get a chance. It can easily be a test of their devotion to you, and if that relationship fails because of the changes occurring due to you enlisting, then please take my word, it was never meant to be. I held back in high school because of a boy and I wished I wouldn't have. It was my calling to serve, and here I am having to work three times as hard just to keep up with people 11 years younger than me. I'm 29 and I'm doing this. I promise you on everything living and breathing on this earth, I will miss my son more than you'll ever miss a boyfriend. Guaranteed. But I'm looking at the end goal, not the struggle in between. What I'm doing, I'm doing for me. But I'm also doing it for my fiance. I'm doing it for my baby boy. To make him proud, set an example, and encourage him to always aim high. The confidence and inner strength you'll come home with will only make the right man love you more than before you left. Don't. Don't. Don't give up the chance over a guy. Do it for you and if things don't work out, you still have a good job, you have lifelong friends and family, the ability to travel without worrying you'll upset someone etc etc. You will survive and you'll get better and stronger with every struggle along the way. Do what feels right in your gut. If that means enlisting, then take a good deep breath and get on that bus to BMT. You'll be okay. 👌

I have had NO luck with any recruiters wanting to talk to until I get to the weight requirement. It's been a bit frustrating but I also understand... would love to hear back how everyone is doing !! :)

MSGT RG Russell Retired Over the years the USAF BMT has changed to fit the times and today it has evolved into a Mix of Air Force and Army in my Opinion. (Which is a very good thing) Know what job you want before signing the dotted line - List them in order top to low. Wait for the Job you want and if not available yet pressure your recruiter till you get it! Be happy is more important. Most Airman never see combat up close like our Army Brothers and sisters do but some Air Force Job’s do! We still get the needed training so here is a break-down of BMT for new recruits It can be fun or can be not so fun - it is up to the person! _ Think of it as Camp for adults with Game levels thrown in. 7 weeks of military training and one week of enjoyment from all your hard work! If you make this choice, prepare mentally - check you self and any attitudes towards authority figure crap. This is not the place for childish non-sense! And its basic not advanced OK - You got through the hard qualifications and testing at MEPs so your cool. Best approach is this is a personal challenge and you will succeed! Upper body prep goes a long way and start way before leaving - delayed enlistment can help serve you in this transition. Also you get paid for that period retroactive and any college goes toward a stripe with pay on the get go! Week 0 - BMT Broken down to Intro to military life - yelling at you and pressure to perform is kids play so don't get worked up and play the game with speed and confidence. Week 2 you begin getting into the actual training and physical fitness while still processing. Week 3 - ramps up and start education and warrior training. Week 4 - TI's relax and you should be getting the hang of it. Week 5 - Real training kicks in - chemical warfare, range, marching skills and of course PT. Week 6 - Ramps up some more - history class and first aid as well as combat stuff to get ready for BEAST week - confidence course REAL FUN! Week 7 - BEAST WEEK. Deploy to the annex for the week and train like combat and defense skills. Exhausting but fun. Team work and cool stuff! This is the real graduation! Week 8 - Airman' week - TI's cool and helpful - get awards and do the Airman's Run, parade and Town pass! Congratulations You did it!

I am really curious about the living arrangements and stipulations on décor. Embrace the moment. It's perfectly normal to feel nervous. It's a new experience that you can only prep so much for. The mentality I'd say go in with would be "It's necessary to get to where I want to be". Just focus on the light at the end of the tunnel and that 8.5 weeks will fly by. The first week and a half are the worst because you're getting thrown into a new lifestyle, but after that honestly you're just there and by then you'll make a few friends and you'll be laughing at half the stuff you go through. Plus it's always fun when you see the newer trainees come in and get yelled at if you're ever outside when they get to your building.

Hi Miranda, thank you for your videos. They have helped shed some insights on BMT. I was wondering when you were in BMT, were their older ladies with you? I am 38 and physically fit, and hopes to enlist in the Air Force Reserves later this year, but I would hate to be the only older woman there (the cut-off age is 39 for the AF Reserves).

What do the girls do when they do have their period? Like for long marches or long days, do they let you take care of yourself or are they strict with that stuff as well?

Thanks for watching! Each day is different? Starting off you'll only get about 3 min, but through out your time you'll get more and more. By the 6th week you'll prolly have 5-8 min. It doesn't sound like long but when you're in a crowded room with naked girls you'll just want IN and OUT!

yes girl even on your toes! I had a male MTI and he couldn't come in when we were changing or showering so he couldn't see if you did have your toes painted, but if you have a female MTI they could! So i'd deff take it all off just to be safe. And thats awesome!! Enjoy your time at boot camp, you'll be looking back on in for the rest of your time in the Air Force!

JaNae Jensen hey girl! So i know coloring your hair from black to blonde can be a huge challenge, so I would keep it black and if it does start to show you can tell your MTI and they will send you to the salon to get it colored and get you back in regs. But DO NOT have them cut it!!!! Worst hair cut ever haha.
