Air Force Cycling Team to the Rescue-RAGBRAI 2019-Part 3

RAGBRAI is one of my favorite bike events in the world! Over twenty thousand people pedal from the Missouri River, to the Mississippi River over the span of 7 days (about 450 miles). The state of Iowa is near and dear to my heart, the people are welcoming, and the endless corn fields and small towns serious charm. Did I mention Pie? How about homemade cinnamon rolls? This event is pure joy and it's hard to wipe the smile off my face. In this episode, my mom, Dana, Xanthe, and others start the adventure during a downpour in Council Bluffs.

This RAGBRAI series may be a couple years old, but they never get old watching. Ryan, you are an inspiration to many people, including myself. I might be approaching 67, but I'm out there improving my endurance and distance because of your inspiration, love of everything, and view of life, and I tell everyone I can about your channel. Your interviews, voice-overs, "daily biking chants", videography and story-telling are quite unique, and I personally am looking forward to seeing many more of your adventures. There certainly are no other RAGBRAI videos out there like yours. Cheers!

Thanks for your 3 videos on RAGBRAI 2019. I gotta tell you that your conversation with the folks riding with Parkinson’s was most inspirational and thought provoking. So much so that I along with several of my coworkers who work with folks who have Parkinson’s have decided to get a team of 20 cyclists organized to ride 335 miles from Washington, DC to Pittsburgh on the C&O Canal Towpath and The Great Allegheny Passage this coming September in support of The Davis Phinney Foundation... Thanks for what you do...And you do it well...Exceptionally well!!!...Hey why not come out and join us?

Hey Ryan thanks for another year of RAGBRAI. I love watching your videos, yes, because you have great content, and, good editing, but mostly just for you. I love your positive attitude and your determination to make things happen, like riding to Council Bluffs so you can then ride across Iowa. I'd like to ride like that but it's hard to convince this 70 year old mind, and very overweight body it can be done. Thanks man, and thanks once again for what you did for Luke.

@@duzer You mentioned you did the 2018 Ragbrai. That ride on Day 1, went through my home town "Charter Oak" the night stop was Denison. That is the only second time Ragbrai has gone through my home town. The first time was 1988. I was 8 years old then. At the time I didn't know it was called Ragbrai, I was just so excited to see so many cyclist in the area. One cyclist gave me his flat tube. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Never saw a rode bike before then. It was only in my 20's I first heard about Ragbrai and put two and two together that they came through out town. My Mom was a volunteer at the Methodist Church Food Stand. Yes, the Pies! the Pies! I volunteered as a server but was also one of the churches best customers. You mentioned getting a good pie was hit or miss at churches but always 100% on at the Amish food stand. I'll give you a tip that you'll never have to eat a mediocre pie again in your life. You need to look at two things. You need to look at the pie crust, and you need to look at the filling. Store bought pie crust. Basically, you want to look for the pies that don't look perfect looking. The pie crust is uneven and un uniform. The pie filling, may not be pretty. The filling, you don't want a pretty looking filling because pretty looking filling is more likely to be store bought filling. The less attractive is the more likely it is that it is a home made pie. Also rule of thumb, if the crust looks home made, it is likely the filling is also home made. Also key and eye out and ask around for any unusual pie filling. choke cherry pie, rubbarb pie, if its not something you've commonly heard of before or strange combinations like strawberry apple pie, that is a good indicator it was made from scratch. And you may get to try something you've never eaten before. You can also ask them, you want a pie that the crust and filling are all home made from scratch, they will likely know. Shoot, if you came cycling in when I was 8 years old, and asked me for what was the best pie, I could easily have told you because, I quickly learned which pies where good and which were run of the mill. Keep these tips in mind the next time you happen around pies. Suprisingly there are some store bought pies that are actually amazing. Such as Braums apple pie. Its like pure fat with all the calories, but hey its good. Didn't have that when I was a kid. Didn't expect to write so much but hey give it a shot. I haven't watched the video yet, but congratulations on being sober for 5 years! After watching your Iowa video I subscribed to your channel. I'm a bit of an adventure myself. Weekend warrior you could say. I cycle 30 minutes to work every day. Every other day I run 10 KM, on Saturdays I take my two kids out on epic adventures in the mountains, rivers, and ocean of Taiwan. Trying to train them up so they can go on more adventures with me as they get older. Hope to join Ragbrai someday after Corona is over. The distance is a piece of cake for me cause I topically put in a lot of miles. And we have some of the best mountain climbs in the world. Though I will say, the Loss Hills will give you some good surprising climbs you may not have been expecting. XD Peace!

I did RAGBRAI in 2012, and it was a bit over whelming. I hope too do it in 2020, at least I will know what to expect. Looks like you had a good ride.
