I'm always on the hunt for exciting new experiences and ways to make this world a better place. The main goal with my content is to inspire viewers to get off their couches. My adventures mostly include bikepacking and endurance running, but I tend to throw in some curve balls from time to time. I live in Boulder, Colorado.

This is my favorite quote and YES I love the Muppets. "I know I drive some people crazy with what seems to be ridiculous optimism, but it has always worked for me." Jim Henson

Did you have to pre-book the cabin? Just wondering how you managed to find such a cosy place not already occupied by another competitor

I so much prefer watching you tour and your joy, laid back enjoyment of your bike. Racing is such a weird concept. Touring is enjoying the journey and the destination is not important. Racing it’s all about enduring the journey in order to get to the destination. I think you’ve made a great choice!

Not quitting, accepting that your ass is made of flesh is sane. Not triumphant? Nonsense. Deciding to protect yourself is a triumph. Especially as we get older, so much more important to be true to ourselves, and loose our ego. Thats triumph.

I cant believe you quit. You seem like a seasoned rider that could plow through anything. I flying to antelope wells in a week to ride north ( i live close to banff ). Ryan was “racing” that bad it made you have saddle sores?. I respect you but you shouldn’t have quit. I will tell you how i get on in July. Im almost your age, completely overweight by 40lbs and i drive more than bike. I never imagined being allowed to just stop.

He’s already completed this route, this was just his first time racing it. You can’t control how your body responds to things. I can run the same route 100 times easily and maybe the 101st time my foot decides to blister badly preventing me from finishing. There’s no shame in putting your health/body first. He has open sores on his ass, what do you want him to do? Suffer for what? He has nothing to prove.

Thanks for this. As a purely rec rider who recently had to drop out of two big charity events after cardiac issues and an injury, I appreciate that the need to "not do this one" can affect anyone, no matter how trained or qualified. Wishing you the best...

I used to get little pimples sitting on leather saddles from rubbing and they were bad enough. Then I found memory foam seat covers in Nanning China in 2015. Instant relief. They do need to be tied down well with shoe laces to keep them mostly still, especially the seat nose. They likely wear a hole my pants faster but just the right side for some reason. I had 2 Brooks Flyer saddles that needed these covers. I just rode my old CCM 3 speed a hundred miles in 11 hours, beside 800 big trucks on 2 lane highways too. I'm 70 yo. I finally got a good seat on my last bike that doesn't need a cover. It has a plastic outer with 1/2" of not too firm padding. As for SNOW in JUNE, I hope you now denounce the GloBULL warming HOAX, once and for all. LOL What a farce. One side of America is always the opposite of the other, cold/ hot < > wet/ dry. 100% of the peach/ apricot trees in BC had ZERO fruit this year after minus 28C for days last winter. It was -52C in Alberta. HEY, didn't it snow 2 years ago also?? LOL.

You're loved just the same Ryan. We found you through your cool approach to bike adventure...didn't find you through your bike racing. No digs to bike racers, but your stuff is so, so enjoyable to watch. Your touch to humanity is why we stay with you. Keep that going, dude and know you're still awesome to all of us.

Oh dude, as a long-time fan... you are SO MUCH not a racer and do not take that as an insult. Self-discovery is always a part of your tours we watch and this will be a minor disappointment in the long run. You will laugh at it eventually, as we all eventually laugh at ourselves in similar mismatched situations.

Well I'm guessing, from watching your videos and your explanation here, that your genre and raison d'être is the travelogue with adventure, characters, great videos and olays. Good choice to know when something is not a great match for one and move on to the lane(s) that make one fulfilled and inspire so many people. Blessings. Jim

Dude, as I messaged you, you are not quitting, you are dropping after getting to the starting line. And the lessons you are learning about bike racing not being your thing is what I learned after hopping off the Trans Am last August. We cannot do it all, and you have much still to be proud of. You are a guiding light for thousands of people and every one of us are glad you made the wise decision. Now get you and your ass back here to Boulder and recover, plan the next "RYAN" adventure and we'll all be right with you!!!! We're all sending you burrito hugs!

Hi Ryan! Always so proud of you and sending you healing energy. Regardless of any sporting challenge do be mindful of your body and listen closely with devoted attention, after all it has taken you around the world, right? So, if you find anywhere calendula or arnica oil, it's something very useful to have in your packing, even a little bottle much love and strength to you. We love you dearly !! Veronica and John. ❤❤

Duzer, this isn’t a story just a chapter. Sometimes your body is not ready and that’s ok. Racing sucks. But please don’t stop doing all the other things you do. I am sure I speak for the whole channel when I say we love you and your videos, and the pace you ride whatever it is. Pedal on Man!

You gave it a shot and it didn't work out, thats part of the adventure! On to the next one, after you heal of course. Saddle sores suck and if you don't have to keep going, why would you. Now you know that riding just for pain sucks. I like going fast on my bike, but I don't like racing. Cya on the next adventures brother!
