I will never stop directly behind a car. And I don't care if Lane Splitting & Filtering is illegal in my state. I will not allow myself to get rear-end & crushed, then lose my bike, my legs, or my life. I will always split or filter safely, and if I can't fit, I will wait between the lanes, or point my bike toward another escape route I can force myself into. The law wants to tell me what I can't safely do with my bike, but the law can't keep people off their phones, their eyes on the road, and their brakes maintained.

Great topic. Perfect example by the black truck lol, good eye! I have a 2010 Honda Fury liquid cooled and I used to work at Kia on broadway. Traffic in the downtown area had that fan kicking on constantly! I now work south of Norman and ride my StreetBob mostly as it is quite a bit more rural, Blanchard, Chickasha etc. There is definitely a place for both liquid and air. Im pretty open minded about any style bike and will try to find the good in anything but, right now, its streetbob time! Nice vids man keep em comin'. Would love to see a walk around of the 1200.

Thanks for the Sub and I am working on a walk around on the 1200T soon. I was in the middle of cooking up a deal on another bike that slowed the vids down. But now that the KLR 650 Dual sport has joined I am going to get cranking again.

Q: I'm considering buying either a 2020 Indian Chief vintage or classic or a Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero, but remain unsure which over the other especially with regard to their liquid vs air-cooled engines. I would spend much riding between Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and the Carolinas, so the weather is rather moderate. Any suggestions? And which bike would you choose with regard to longevity, endurance, running costs, safety, and reliability? Looking forward to an honest and informed answer. Thanks.

Both my bikes are Liquid Cooled, I ride in many Parades with the American Legion Riders, & don't want to put Several ugly fans on my Motorcycle to keep it cool, like many of my friends that ride Harley & Indian cruisers! Great advice @ the end of your video, I always watch out for the other guy, I have lost count of how many times that I have had to use my WOLO’s BAD BOY CHROME, air horn, to wake up four or more wheeled drivers.

Trying to decide between a liquid cooled C50 and air cooled XVS950. Where I am summer temps usually sit between 30 and 35 C (86 - 95F), with peaks up to 40C (104F). However I rarely ride in that kind of heat, though I could just squeeze out my gear onto the engine to cool it haha. One would think the choice would be obvious, however the catch comes in terms of power. Most of my riding will be in areas of 80km/h (50mph) and 110km/h (68mph), this is where I feel the 805cc C50 will let me down. Thoughts?

As long as you're in moving air for the most part you will be in better shape. If your traffic is thick and hard to get around in go liquid. If not the air cool will be okay for sure.

What about 250cc non v twin 4 stroke. Woukd it be ok in the city?

I live outside Baltimore and during the summer it can spike to 107. I normally don't ride in hot temps like that and stay inside. I'm looking at the Ducati scrambler and hope only to ride country roads and around town which in my area is still pretty rural. I'm just wondering since it's so small, I'd be worried to death the engine would blow. I'm disabled and don't ride much but when I do get out, I ride 30 minutes here or there - no hard riding. Think this bike be ok or should I jump to a Triumph street twin?

I honestly have to say the Street Twin would be the better. I have rode the Duc and it is kind of stiff and not the most enjoyable around town. I have got the chance to take a Street Twin out now and it was amazingly comfortable and good power delivery and a good chassis. The only sad part, my camera was dead by the time I got to ride it. I will hopefully get another chance soon.

Gonna probably buy my first bike soon. 2001 Yamaha V-Star 650 air cooled and I live on Maui. Typically traffic isn't too bad.

what do I look for when buying my first cruiser, I'm stuck between Honda Fury Suzuki boulevard m90, Indian chief dark horse+Harley Davidson Fatboy Lo are potentials but more expensive

What I look for is the fit of the bike to me. When I sit on it, ride it, and work on it does it work for me and what I want. I also look at reliability and ease of maintenance and possible dealer/mechanic support in case of the big stuff. If you have to tow it for a couple of hours if something big happens it kind dulls the ownership experience. But choose the bike that feels right, that fits in the budget, and that you can see yourself riding for years to come.

My Honda Shadow-Sabre 1100 is liquid-cooled and it's as reliable as Sunrise. Additionally, my thighs don't get toasty in Summer traffic. With that out of the way, those who advocate Air-cooled engines make a valid point. I'd be happy with either, so long as it's reliable.

+LarryRickenbacker There are valid points to both. Honda Shadows are darn near nuclear bomb proof (bullet proof is not close enough). I still prefer the liquid in much hotter environments, especially when lane splitting is not allowed.

I almost never hear my fan turn on unless i ride a very long distance or on interstate for a while. Im starting to wonder most of the time i dont even hear it at all when i do my regular driving but no temp light so i guess its fine.

Depends on your temps. In this lovely state where 4 out of the next 7 days in July has 100+ temps you'll hear the fans pop on frequently especially in stop go. Usually they do not engage in motion on long rides as wind flow is sufficient enough until that first stop and they should kick in. So I would not worry if the temp light is not engaging and you do not feel like a power sap or hear valve slap and pops from the engine as it is not overheating.

Are air cooled bikes ok with extreme cold like late fall and winter? Are they ok starting in those conditions every day?

Yes, although recommend a warm up of about 5 minutes before take off. Usually the warm-up is if the temps are 40s and below for the full 5. I have rode air cooled bikes in weather as low 9 degrees without issue. Another thing I do is trickle charge the batteries over night on really cold nights when temps are expected to drop below freezing. The batteries actually suffer the most.

Which is better? In the summer you don't have to worry about overheating with a liquid cooled... But in the winter air cooled is much better... Liquid can freeze and can be expensive to replace.

N617A Well as long as your antifreeze is balanced right there is no worries in winter (rode my Night Rod in less than 20s a few times this winter). So a very valid point if not properly maintained for sure that air would be the best in winter. But overall if everything is working and maintained correctly a liquid cooled engine would still be the best overall as it keeps its temps more constant.

Would you recommend air cooled for those long freeway road trips?

+Seigin1Craft Well around town in 30-45 minute spurts should not be too much for the 125. So if you run and grab something at the store or just want to ride around or what not you'll be fine.

+Seigin1Craft That's a good long time on a little bike! I would recommend at least 4 stops if you're constantly moving and a 15 minute cool down. If you have to sit in traffic at stops often for long periods then you will need to do the 30-45 minute intervals. It really depends on how hot it gets though. We hit over 100 often here and you start to ping and pop with large CC air cooled stuck in traffic within 30 minutes if you don't get good clean airflow, (over 35 mph for a Harley it seems) for a period of around a mile and a half before sitting for a period.

motor with liquid cooling of course it will be better in cooling down, first the engine is cool down by water, and also cool down by air, aircooled is only cool down by air common people common now common. and by the way engine with 200cc tend to have liquid cooling coz they can go fasdt reving, if i have an engine with 150cc i dont really worry about over heating

Too many times car driver made lots mistakes than a biker. Man even when you ride a loud Harley, they still didn't HEART you. This is sucks

First off, IMO, an air cooled motorcycle engine far outweighs a liquid cooled one as a better option. A radiator is a very expensive, at some point, piece of hardware that will either need to be repaired or replaced. It also adds weight to a motorcycle. Also in winter it can freeze, if not properly maintained, causing the engine to be ruined. Though it is a sad fact that more and more motorcycles are being engineered with liquid cooled engines denying the consumer less choices of decent air cooled motorcycles. Why this is happening is for a myrid of reasons, more, IMO, becuase of the likes of such as the EPA and the European equivalent of same. The insanity of the movement that claims that hmans are responsible for "Climate Change" is at the very core of this situation, IMO. Anyway, in closing the air cooled motorcycle engine is the BEST. PERIOD ;-)

Kawasaki W800 is a really good air cooled vertical twin bike. Well made and designed, simple and a joy to ride. I've not heard of any W800 or W650 owners having overheating issues.

Air cooled has some advantages, such as lower maintenance as you do not need to keep up a cooling system and any electronics with it. However, overall liquid cooling is better especially in hot climate areas and urban areas. Liquid cooling keeps the engine temps down and results in lower wear and tear on the metals as it reduces expansion and such from heat. It also provides more consistent power in the engine at temperature since it is not in as much danger of overheating and suffering from heat sap.

I have an aprilia sr 50 it was liquid cooled and i had a problem and the engin stuck so i had to put a new cylender so i changed it to it became air cooled witha a fan in place of the water pump and an air cooling cylendre so my question is wich one is faster ? Because i see that it look slower or maybe my problem is that the variator galets are with the wrong weight i need some help in that it get only 65km/h now

I hate driving my car into the city where I am . Luckily everywhere I want to ride isn't the city.

Is this in edmond Oklahoma?

advice.. most bikes have a kill switch.. when i rode my chinese 200cc in mexico every time i would come to a stop for more then 30 sec. i would kill it. then turn rhe switch on and turn her over. dont stress the bike too much either keep those revs low too😉

+Benny Martinez Reyes Brave to ride one of those. Liquid cooled ones would scare me too just because of their wonderful "reliability" records. There are times that if I see a very long wait at a light I do cut power.

Haha yes those bikes have a record for being low quality.. although i was very pleased with what i got. Never had issues with it i never red lined or teied to race it i gave it , its pace and took care of it.

I always see articles on(air vs oil vs water)On cooling,I always seem to read oil is not good on high revving 4-cylinders,unlike let’s say a Harley,I believe the motorcycle people have no idea what they are talking about.I still have my 87-Suzuki(GSXR-1100)Air/oil cooled system.Yes not as good as a water cooled engine.But I’ve never had a problem.Yes I know the radiator is almost as big as a water cooled radiator.A a very high revving 4-cylinder engine,and I’m in the Phoenix Area,motorcycle experts are dimwits.

Urban setting big city. Liquid cool is the only way to go. I commute 8 miles one way and it takes me 30 min and I lane split.

The sad truth is that the kind of driving that was in this video actually killed someone and seriously injured another in this city this last week. The passenger was 16 and passed away at the scene. The car driver pulled an illegal u-turn in the middle of the street right in front of the rider who was a family member who had several years riding experience and there was nothing that he could have done to stop in time.

Actually it does not because I'm a professional instructor and we advise of parking in center of lane for visibility and or where the concrete/asphalt is not terrible. So there's that.
