Have y’all been seeing what’s going on in the world of artificial intelligence? NVIDIA making strides powering basically everything, Microsoft and OpenAI continuing to make great things, Google doing what it can to try keep up, and even more companies like Adobe implementing AI in their own products. With so much going on, I wanted to make a video going over what you may have missed. And in everything we discuss today, please let me know which you’re most excited about and would like a full video about. I want to make an in-depth video on every single one of these but it’s information overload lol and I can’t decide!

I think there’s so many lines of work that are equally threatened by this tech. But the reason CS people are in meltdown mode is because we are more inclined to pay attention to developments in AI than people who aren’t interested in tech. We are in the deepest discussions about AI, so naturally thinking through “how can this replace us?” But we could also ask- how might this replace everyone else? And then what do we all do? These will be interesting years…
How about a video on how us software engineers can either A) survive the coming AI's to replace us and keep a semblance of our jobs of B) Logically, there will be jobs for some software types, but not as many so we will need new fields to explore - different fields that we could work in and still feel the fulillment we get from building software projects. or C) Do we all just need to learn to become carpenters?

I don’t see why no one touches the legal aspects of this. If I paint a mickey mouse on a shirt and try to sell it at scale, disney will sue me. I cannot do it because someone else invested time and resources into creating something like this. And this is partially what drives investments, the fact that you are gonna be able to monetize the fruits of your labor without someone stealing it from you. So, what if before training these models, they ask coders, artists id they want their work to be part of these models and explain them that the end goal is to automate their work witht the help of them. If there are not copyright laws stopping these tech giants, nothing will stop us from copying every single piece of art, music, voice, code, or original content put out there. There won’t be any incentive to come up with something new if you cannot make a living out of it.

@@agustinperes6904 If you make enough money you can outlast Disney in a lawsuit and bankrupt them, and AI gives you the ability to do that due to sheer overwhelming output.
I would love a deeper dive on the way that neural networks / LLMs work and the way they differ from traditionally coded applications.
I've always disliked AI because it always felt more of a gimmick, but now it's cool (and scary) to see actual uses
I honestly don't understand why everyone's thinking CS Degree is garbage or worthless now?.. to the contrary in the future everything will revolve around it and if you're not stressing yourself out with expectations of working at some massive corporation - you'll be fine. Embrace your education and jump into the world of it. AI is part of that world. Think about how many 'easier' jobs to automate there are and yet they exist. Economies can't just afford to remove people entirely because people need to work, make money, spend that money to keep the flow of things going.

Hello my man! I’m really enjoying your new content, your experience\expertise shows in the way you synthesize it. It would be sweet if you threw a tiny bit of text emphasizing the important points on the screen. like when you said the date of GPT plus release I messed it and had to rewind or when you said copilot X I felt like I missed and wanted to rewind but didn’t. I’m basing this a bit off that Veritasium video that says our short term memory recall improves through the charts when BOTH the image and the corresponding word are shown (like an apple pic WITH the word apple). I’m not sure how often is ideal, but it would be sweet if you experiment with throwing up some box letters of the important nouns sometimes to help people follow the information dense content. (much like some other news sites do in their short form overviews of a particular current event) 😊I’m also really impressed with how you’re managing to consistently put in the work for this (wouldn’t mind an inspirational time-lapse of you’re research phase, mix of maybe the pc screen and the room shot with some shot of maybe the sun or clock or number of coke cans in the trash to frame the time of day lol)-- those would also make much cooler promos for KZread shorts pointing to the new video

Could it be the case that most companies in the future feel the need to have their own in-house AI teams? Like they have developers? Or will this tech be monopolized by the few at the top to the point of 'no chance' for the smaller players.
@fknight
Жыл бұрын
I think it'll be for all at the top, but then again, NVIDIA has built DGX Cloud and is working with Microsoft, Google, and Oracle to bring it to the masses. It allows any company to be able to access DGX AI supercomputers in the same way we access cloud computing. Companies won't need to have all of that hardware in-house. So actually, you bring up a very good point.

@@fknight Yep, for hardware, I was already thinking along the lines of "computing (hardware) as a service", now next we need is that the latest and greatest in AI should be made open source, or atleast the majority of it, to avoid monopoly. A lot of it is made from using Open Source tools anyway. And if I think about it, open source AI will also benefit from a lot of behaviour checking and perhaps faster iteration in innovation and development. But another concern is, can some party take this open source AI and twist into something with evil intentions.

@@zikomo8913 You can already get way better results from stable diffusion running locally on cheap consumer GPUs than from dalle2 running on a datacentre so I imagine while hardware as a service will continue to grow, I think consumer gpus will continue to have more and more ram and they’ll eventually be able to run large language models locally.

It's less about how AI is developed that I am concerned, I think they're good tools and one of their use is to spot the gap. It's about the corporate monopoly behind it that I worry. And I always remind myself of this tweet from @nntaleb "Let me be blunt. Those who are afraid of AI feel deep down that they are impostors & have no edge. If you have a 1) clear mind, 2) a deep, not just cosmetic, understanding of your specialty, 3) and/or are original enough to reinvent yourself when needed, AI will be your friend."
I figured why not ask Chat GTP, it’s response: Do you see yourself replacing software engineers? As an AI language model, my primary function is to assist and augment human intelligence, rather than replace it. While I am capable of generating code snippets and performing certain software engineering tasks, I cannot replace the expertise, creativity, and problem-solving abilities of a skilled software engineer. Furthermore, the field of software engineering is constantly evolving, and requires not only technical skills, but also communication, collaboration, and project management abilities. These are areas where humans excel and are necessary for successful software development. In summary, I see myself as a tool that can be used by software engineers to improve their productivity and effectiveness, rather than a replacement for them.

The AI has all (or nearly 99%) technical skills already. You don't need collaboration and project management abilities if the AI does everything you ask for. You also don't need any communication since AI will do the whole codebase.

One thing that is crazy now, once they offered the profit model. They made the free version pretty much useless. What do you think about them making paying customers pay for a Beta version of a product? Why not have a free version for testers/bloggers? I tested it a lot with code mostly, but some writing. The scary thing is that only the wealthy will have the edge on AI assisted learning or work. Not even a tier system. Thanks for posting, man.

I think it's reasonable to charge for a Beta version, especially for ChatGPT, the fastest growing user-base ever. 0 to 100M in two months is insane. Obviously I dislike how they throttle the free version, but they did do that even before Plus was released due to server constraints. Whether it's primarily for that or just to get people to purchase Plus, not sure.
