AI CNC ZoeDepth, shallow relief from AI images.

Thanks for watching me ramble on, just to recap my process is outlined below followed by the links in operation order. Please subscribe if you'd like to see more refined and complete content on all my techniques.
-Go to your chosen AI text-to-image model, here I use Bing Creator which is driven by DALLE3. Use terms like bas-relief, stone, carved, high detail, and other photography terms.
-Uncrop the photo if desired, not necessary.
-Upscale the image, this is a must. 2X okay, 4X even better.
-Launch Google Colab and connect to the T4 GPU. Operate the code as shown in the video. NOTE: YOU MUST CLICK COPY TO DRIVE FIRST AND ONLY ONCE. SAVE IT TO YOUR OWN GOOGLE ACCOUNT.
-You now have a depth map png and a high res jpg. You can then import them to your preferred software and follow similar steps shown here.

Hey Ryan, very interesting video. I'll have to watch it a few more times before my mind can absorb it all. A couple of things that I noticed (I am sure that you already know this), to reduce the thickness of your model set the base height to a negative value and then replace values below z. Also, when you baked the two models in to one, you can use the create component from visible model button. Then you have the baked image but you still have the originals in case you want to make changes and try again. Looking forward to getting deeper in to this. Thanks for sharing

I've been playing with this all day. ZoeDepth also comes with Stable Diffusion so it can be used locally if you have a beefy enough graphics card. I think I'm right at the edge of it working properly unfortunately. It works just as it does on Collab with lower resolution images, until I try 1k image size, then it does some funky stuff to the results. Any larger than that and I run out of VRam on a 11GB 1080ti. But as it turns out, those funky results work great to add the detail back into the depth results from the ZoeDepth V3 Collab. I need to figure out how to install it locally without Stable Diffusion so that it uses less VRAM. FYI, this works without issue in Edge (on Windows), probably because it's Chromium based.

Great, did you post your Blender video yet? I've been using similar techniques in blender just with surface displacement and PNG files from Gen AI. I think a light touch with the sculpting tools might make it less "flat", eg a human carver would have made the fish rounder and slightly bent to give greater realism. Good work though. 👍

For some reason I'm getting banding when importing into Aspire. This is the depth map, not the original image. Any clues what I may have set incorrectly? I can't see the banding in the depth map when I view it in Photoshop but perhaps it is there?

Solved. For some reason if you import bitmap it gives banding. You have to directly create component as you did in your video. I thought I was saving myself a step because it comes in at full document size so you don't have to rescale it... but...

Nahh you’ll just need to pivot slightly. It is still difficult for people to get what’s in their mind’s eye to a final model. Tons left to discover and work on, not everyone will even do this. Some people just want to hire out and that will always be the case I think.

I do CNC wood working full time, for a living. While I might use this for the odd thing here and there, I’ve also spent a lot of money paying for well made models from places like CGTrader, Design & Make etc. A good modeler (human) is worth his pay. This stuff is only going to be free until they get everyone dependent on it anyway. The smart modeling guys will learn to use this to get the bulk of the rough work done and then do what they do to make it final. Hang in there… I used to be a VCR Repair Technician…
