Ahsoka - Why It's Whack (mostly)

Фильм және анимация

The biggest flaw of this show was not giving Huyang more screen time.
For this video I tried to implement a new editing style and I'd love any feedback you guys have. Thanks for watching!

I agree with a lot of what you have to say, except the idea that Thrawn should’ve killed Sabine. The thing with Thrawn is that despite how evil he is, he’s an anti-villain with a sense of honour, so him letting Baylan keep his word is in line with his character, in my opinion. Although Thrawn choosing not to find Ezra is stupid

I think aside from using Sabine to find Ezra, I think Thrawn's main plan for her was indeed leverage. On what you say? Who was it that gave Baylan the map? Sabine Wren. That's right. When she told him that what she did, Thrawn seized the opportunity on the perfect scapegoat for his return, one to divide the New Republic (if you look at the anatagonistic relationship between Hera and Senator Xiano) from within by using a well respected war hero and making her out as a traitor in the eyes of the people the Rebellion sought to liberate from the Empire. It wasn't really killing two birds in one stone, no, more like setting a destructive chain of events to not only to crush the Republic from the inside out, but to cast doubt on the Rebellion's legacy. It's actually the perfect, a simple one, but an opportunity Thrawn took and that could lead to catastrophic consequences on the Republic, especially in the long run. Thrawn would've still taken the hard way, but Sabine just made it easier for him to find the right opportunity to not only escape, but to also undo everything the Rebellion fought to gain.

The thing is with Sabine, and her lightsaber choreo, is that the actress playing her is actually very good at martial arts and overall stunts, but the director, or showrunner, or her character, or all of them summed up, probably were making her to portray Sabine that way 🤷🏻 I personally think that the actress did pretty good job at playing that character - it's the writing that she was given fucked up her badly, honestly can't see anyone or anything make Sabine or even show shine with their performances, given the writing material and everything. Also actress that plays that Dathomire wannabe witch character, is very good at martial arts also, and they did her dirty at her first appearance in mando, but she was trying her hardest to make her memorable i think, considering awful directing and the script. Overall, i think choreo improved slightly compared to previous projects in disney era, but still light years away from the prequels 😅 They really need to put actors on training courses for 3-6 month, before filming anything that includes lightsabers, like Lucasfilms did with Ewan and Hayden. I'm sorry, but it was painful experience watching Rosario fighting as Ahsoka, it looked the same as if they took someone random from the streets who would never-ever even put a thought about martial arts, and asked them to portray great swordsman from old samurai movie, in a way that they would think he should look like

I think you hit the nail on the head in regards to Sabine. I liked the show in general, but they did a terrible job writing Sabine. I watched Clone Wars, but I didn't watch a lot of Rebels. Someone else said that Sabine was a teenager at the end of Rebels. To me, the problem with Ahsoka (the show) was that (I suppose in an attempt to make her recognizable from Rebels) they kept Sabine's emotional/intellectual age at 15. She acts in ways an adult simply wouldn't act. As far as Sabine using Force powers goes, here's the problem: They spent the entire season telling us how much Sabine sucked at using the Force, to the point where she's the worst Force apprentice the droid had seen in *thousands* of years. Think about that: *THOUSANDS* of years. And they also make a point of having Ahsoka say that it's okay if she's not a Jedi and *can't* use the Force. They gave her permission to not be a Force user, but they made her one anyway. And you can say that she trained under Ahsoka for years, but that actually makes it *worse*. She trained for years and basically still sucked so badly that she couldn't even move a cup. And she betrays everyone and doesn't pay a price for it. I was waiting for her to turn to the dark side. GIving Baylan the map could've been her Anakin moment, her turn to the dark side, but it was all wasted. If you're going to have a character do something like that, at least have the balls to have her turn evil. I liked the rest of the show (6.5 or 7 out of 10), but without Sabine, it could've been a 9.

what i am about to say has nothing to do with your channel, caprisanh. i really like you videos, and I'm sorry if I'm disagreeing with your opinions. (And I apologize if what below sounds really bad and rude. i think that down playing Ezra and focusing on Sabine was a mistake, i hate what Star Wars has become, and I know I will get a lot of hate for what I'm about to say but... here we go. I think Sabine is a little brat and any character development she had in Rebels has vanished. Ashoka felt like some sort of shell of herself, and the fact that neither or them seemed to grow very much. it just felt like the writers went, "okay and now they feel this way!". I see no reason in giving Sabine the force, and it felt jarring and out of place that everyone else in the show just accepted the fact that she is a force-sensitive. even Ezra was cool with it. Ezra was nowhere close as entertaining as he was in rebels, the fact that he just seemed cool and okay with every bad decision Sabine made was very out of place. Hera felt like she was just thrown in there just for kicks, she really didn't accomplish much in the episodes she was in. the only characters who were enticing at all were Shin and Balin, but we know that we won't see their characters explored anymore, (Rest In Peace, Ray.) I still have no idea why Disney didn't go with the Ezra Briger Theory and use the world between worlds to fix what has become of the Rey Palpatine Series. I hate saying this, I mean hate it.....but Star Wars as we know it is dead. and now I will stop using KZread as a way to rant and publish my nerd essay and just shut up. I'm sorry for anyone who read all of this.

In my videos I try not to be extremely one sided and I try to mention a few good things from the show alongside my dumb criticism. It doesn't sound bad or rude at all, man. Hmm I think maybe the problem is with female hero characters in general. It happens with many of them these days... I think it's kinda sus that Filoni can still write better characters in the animated shows. But here only the male ones and non-protagonist females are good. Anakin, Ezra, Baylan, Shin... Even Thrawn. It makes me think that maybe the higher ups in Disney do specifically instruct the directors and actresses to portray these female characters this way. Like too hardy, serious, manly, too stoic. Not joyful, curious, sensitive and so on. Even Shin looked super cute and more lively than the other female characters 😂 I think they're afraid of femininity and maybe that's due to the non sensical "ideal of representation" that sadly permeates media these days... Well anyhow, I hope this is only a trend and eventually dies off. Sooner than later.

the show is trash. i regretted watching the entire Ahsoka show. The lead characters are boring and wooden, villains are underutilized, girls can't do no wrong, men are stupid, Thrawn is underwhelming and has an old man belly, lightsaber choreography is garbage, Sabine surviving a fatal lightsaber stab, the mythical and complex aspect of the Force is gone, Ezra is a loser just like any other male character in modern Disney-Star Wars, so many plot holes and stupid writing, and Star Wars is truly dead as long as Disney drags it through the mud. Also, I lost all faith and admiration for Dave Filoni exposing himself to me as a hack who subscribed to the "The Force is FEMALE" bullshit of Kathleen Kennedy. I hated the show I wished it never existed. The only thing I wished for is Star Wars being removed from Disney and Kathleen Kennedy's control and everything they made ERASED with extreme prejudice. Thanks Disney for reminding me that the franchise is beyond saving. Good luck making money.

The problem with Disney and many shows, they try too hard to push a female lead in your face a pound you with it the character to force believably. Somehow the female leads must be instantly better at everything which actually disconnects the audience from the character. They're trying to change the entire dynamic of practice makes perfect to the current crap we have. Granted, Sabine got bodied when she went up against the female apprentice but it shouldn't even have gone that long against a force wielder who practiced for years. It's absolute b.s.

Okay, I agree with most of your observations. But Shin? Really? She has two expressions. 1. Look. And 2. Eyes Wide LOOK. With that goofy black liner all the way around her eyes it makes it even more obvious. Can she handle a lightsaber? Yup. Other than that, she’s a vacuous nothing. I don’t know if it’s the actor or the director-probably 10% actor and 90% director. Which is why whenever you say Shin seems like a real person to you, I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. Can you direct me to one scene, or even just one moment, where she impressed you? I’ve seen it twice, and I just don’t get it. I’ve never been particularly impressed with Sabine. My understanding is that she was 16 in the first season of Rebels. That was okay - after all, she’s Mandalorian, and they start combat training practically at fertilization. But then we learn she went to the Imperial Academy long enough to hate it and drop out, then find and join the Ghost crew. Okay, but that seemed like a stretch. But then we hear that she developed that super-weapon capable of dissolving flesh inside Beskar armor. And the technology so sophisticated that only Sabine understands it well enough to modify it. So we’re supposed to believe, I guess, that a 14-year old trained from childhood as a fighter was also an inventor so uniquely brilliant that all the resources in the Empire were inadequate to even understand her work? Bullshit. Yes, Ezra is pretty (from what I can tell…it’s hard to know how half the guys around actually look anymore since their faces hide under beards) in Ahsoka, but he always was. Remember the Seventh Sister says so (“As pretty as you are…” she says to him at one point). And you can’t tell me Vizago didn’t have something censorable in mind when he made Ezra promise to do literally “whatever I ask” in return for information about Kanan. (s1 ep14) Ezra: “Within reason.” Vizago “No deal.” Ezra “Okay, okay, okay. Whatever you ask.” Vizago “Alright, come with me boy. Alone.” Disney can spin it however they want, but come on. You think opening that cell later on was the extent of that favor. No way. Finally, I think you’re right about Filoni being decent at story development, but dialog? Occasionally interesting, but usually dry and uninspired, and sometimes downright cringeworthy and full of trope and predictable trope (like most of the first episode of Ahsoka.) So, smart analysis there, I think. Listening to Filoni speak, and as is reflected in his written dialog, he just doesn’t came across as being a deep thinker or particularly encumbered by an excess of insight. Especially when it comes to Thrawn, but really for all the characters, they needed Andor-level talent working on the script.

Nah man, this show is shit. Every character that was already established was assassinated, and the ones original to the show are nothing characters that bit even Dave Filoni could tell you two things about, because he has no idea who they are either.

Completely agree about Sabine - just a pure L with no redeeming qualities. Thrawn... feels a bit like a cosplayer. He (kinda) looks like the guy and talks like the guy... but he's not the guy. This is a problem that carried over from Rebels tbh, and is a reflection of Filoni's weaknesses as a creative. He can capture the aesthetics but isn't really willing to put in the leg work to properly represent his brilliance. To this day the only legit Thrawn is the one from the Heir trilogy way back when. I'll totally admit even that story relied on occasional contrivance - but it was a far cry from the seemingly constant "... that was an acceptable loss and kinda my plan all along... " we've been getting from Davey boy's writing.
