Fun fact solpugids don't like heat, so sometimes the try and find spots with shade. Even a humans shadow. This has led to the misconception that when solpugids follow humans, they want to attack them, when in reality they just want to cool off in your shade. So if a solpugid ever follows you, don't run because it's just gonna chase your shadow. Instead lead it to a spot with bigger shade so it will leave you alone.

We kept one of those at my office and fed it every bug we could find. He took out a cockroach, beetle, wolf spider, and even a black widow. But a tiny ant freaked him the heck out. He immediately ran. Interesting instincts hard wired into the insect world.

Centipedes are actually dangerous and can be venomous. Also have a more dangerous bite than the camel spider. Camel spiders almost never break skin with their bite.

Oliver Wan the solace in his death is that he died doing what he loved. He knew that every time he went out into that wilderness he was risking his life, but he did it anyway because nature was his passion. Steve was and still is an inspiration.

I have no problems with spiders. On two conditions. 1) they stay the hell off of me. 2) they stay under the size of the average human hand.

First of all, this is funded by Discovery Network.... secondly, youtube is as close to creative freedom as you can possibly get... Thirdly, he gets more views per minute than you could ever achieve on TV. What TV does is generates a whole lot of Advertisement sales, but it doesn't all go to the main creator for the content. With this youtube channel he can control his content, he gets over a million views PER MINUTE, he gets large percentage of add sales, he gets to make videos when he want to.... he's his own boss. Plus he reaching youth who don't even watch TV anymore. And he gets to interact really closely with his audience in the comment section and see exactly what they are feelings, saying ect.... so much better than the contrived money hungry nature of network television. People only do network TV these days for the instant fame.... but it kills creativity

They aren't aggressive. They keep cool during the day by running from shadow to shadow, and humans are too big to register as animals to their eyes, so they will run into a human's shadow thinking that the human is a rock or a cactus, and the human thinks that it is running at them, and both end up getting startled.

+Cliffle yeah their not really any more inherently aggressive than other arachnids, get too close when they already feel your presence disturbing them and sure their gonna get defensive or even attack...but thats just the nature of most wild animals, even way beyond insects/arachnids but yeah their pretty harmless, painful bite but alot of smaller animals can do that even if they cant easily wound people

Always good to remember that an animal like that will only bite if you if you A) piss it off majorly or B) actively try to get bitten, it's how I got over my fear of sharks and reptiles although I've yet to be rid of my irrational fear of arachnids.

I kept the smaller variety (around an inch at biggest) we get here in Montana as pets. Very cool little creatures. Watching it devour a FAT blowfly, and roaming the tank to slurp up all the tiny maggots, was like watching an overexcited toddler eating birthday cake.

If I ever want to see the effect of a bite from almost anything, I come here. This channel actually helped me get over my Arachnophobia.

Just found 1 that size in my garage and they are very intimidating no doubt.. also found 2 other ones but skinnier.. I still don't want to get bit by one.. the pinchers look more terrifying in person. This is one brave dude! Thank you for this video, it's super informative!

They're actually darn cute and chill in person. I find them every so often in my house here in Arizona, and carry them out.

And this is why humankind should not live in Arizona. If I see one of those or a tarantula in my house, I'm assuming that thing laid eggs, I'm leaving all my stuff, and I'm moving to the coldest environment I can find

@@Jassie411 I live in Montana, which has hit Arctic level record cold temperatures in some areas, and we still get some stuff that would terrify an arachnophobe. I don't know how many black widows I've caught, identified, and kept as pets. We also get a smaller variety of solpugid. Gonna have to try the Arctic/Antarctica if you want to get away from them entirely lol

i love how before he picked up the spider it desperately ate that little bug thinking its world was coming to an end xD
