This is so hard to watch of course. The dark room is were is mind was caged (depressing mode) releaving the darkest moment of his life. The shoulder moment, self harming suicide attempt etc but the scene where he's trying to get out and he couldn't. Remind me of the only time he couldn't perform and was stuck on the bathroom floor crying and couldn't make himself live the bathroom.....

The amygdala is the part of the brain (limbic system) that brings about a flight or fight response. The amygdala releases stress hormones that prepare the body to fight the threat or flee from the danger. Common emotions that trigger this response include fear, anger, anxiety, and aggression. So it's a huge metaphor for what Yoongi experienced from his most formative year and the fact that he had to hide his scooter/moped accident away from Big Hit out of fear that he may have not debuted with the BTS (he was a food delivery driver to make money while they were trainees), which is the reason that he took a 3-month break from BTS in late 2020 to finally have the surgery that he needed because the pain had become too unbearable for him. This really also puts it into perspective for me as to the reason that he bowed to the ground when he saw his parents in the crowd during a BTS concert. It's a very un-Yoongi like thing to do. I get emotional whenever I see that video clip because now it confirms to me that it wasn't just about his parents disapproval of him wanting to become a musician, there was so much more to it in terms of his family life. I've only ever see that bow a few times in person in Korea, and it tugs the heart stings to see it, to see people show such reverence. This is his most personal song ever and SOTY and video of the year for me.

Thank you so much for writing a comment like this! I've grown to know BTS and love them but there is still so much I do not know and this comment helped so much to understand more about Suga and the emotions and story in this song. Appreciate you, and the story really is so raw and heartbreaking 💜

That moment when he bowed to his parents and broke down - it has always just torn me apart. He's usually reserved in his expression, but honest and raw in his music. I do appreciate having more context for it. I know he's had a fraught relationship with his parents at various times, but adding the detail of his father's cancer really does tell us more. I'm so grateful he shared this.

It's all true, Luke. Everything. It all happened to him. If you think about the lyrics of "The Last", he mentioned already his depression, the s**cidal thoughts (the part beeeped in the song, the question the doctor asked him back then). The accident when he was a delivery boy pre-debut (he was a trainee) that destroyed his shoulder. We sort of knew about his mum's heart surgery that happened when he was born. We knew nothing about his dad's cancer until he mentioned it in the song. The scar he inflicts to himself connects to Daechwita and Haegeum, it's how his angry personality was born. It might also be seen as him trying not to "see" these memories over and over again. The room is the amygdala, the part of our brain that stores unpleasant memories to make us feel the "danger" when something happens. His younger self coming back and trying to open the door...he tried ro save himself, but there's no escape from the memories. And yet, thinking about Haegeum, he managed to kill his scarred self, symbolising that even if he will never forget, at least he's at peace. He also mentioned to Namjoon in R-Chwita episode yesterday that those dark thoughts cyclically return. It's...a lot, Luke. A lot. Sending hugs.

This MV/song is not just a simple MV/song, but part of a story of his life, so proud of him for opening up on ARMYs for being so vulnerable. He is one of the strongest person I've know for fighting all those struggles. His parent's illnesses, the motorcycle accident, and the battles against himself, It all made him stronger. As he said in the lyrics "what didn't ki_ _ me only made me stronger, And I begin to bloom like a lotus flower once again". After his IU pallete interview as he said " I am good now, I am mentally ok, I'm at peace now." something like that - it made me feel very happy for him. I salute him alot. 🫡🫡🫡

Thanks for your reaction Much of the video refers to an accident Suga suffered shortly before debuting in 2012 while working as a delivery boy to pay for his studies while he was a Bighit trainee. At first, he told his group members that he had fallen from the stairs, but in reality a car hit him when he was riding his bicycle and he says that after falling he saw that his head was almost under the wheels of the car. Suga did not want to reveal the truth to the agency because he thought they would reject him In other songs he's released in the past as Agust D, on mixtapes for Soundcloud, he talks about his depression, social anxiety and panic attacks... it's the first time he's commented on his mom's heart surgery and the liver cancer his father had, wich it seems he found out while he was fulfilling his schedule with BTS (which has been very tight and demanding and he probably could not be with his father as long as he would have wanted due to being under contract and his corresponding obligations) When the wound is inflicted on the face, I think it seeks to reflect how it has hurt itself in the past (the mind of a depressed person, we already know that it hurts itself a lot) and I also think it represents the birth of his alter ego "Agust D" wich would allow him to externalize his shadows in parallel to BTS When he says: I don't know your name, I think he refers to himself... to that shadow in his unconscious mind... in his song "The Last" he mentioned that his father told him they didn't know him... and he commented that if he did not know himself, how would other people would get to know him? and in that song he also mentions that sometimes he is afraid of himself For me, Suga's "alter ego or shadow" is there in his unconscious and that is why in both Daewchita and Haegeum he kills it again. Although I think that now at this moment he is more at peace with himself, it seems that during the pandemic that shadow returned for a while like many during that period but finally he was able to heal more of his wounds and that is why D-Day arrives I did cry watching this video, my heart felt broken for him but he said in one of his latest interviews for this album that he is at peace now, he is in a good place in the present Regards from Mexico

in the movie Road to D Day Suga said not all people but ARMY know what is he difference between Suga and Agust D. So, Suga had experienced all these and more scarefull events, and all these bad memories are stored in his amygdala (place in a brain for bad memories). these memories creates the OCD, and intrusive thoughts arent allowing to people to live calmly their life. If someone is hit by a car, some people can automatically cringed when they see a car is coming toward their way even it is far away. like this a second side is being created. some people are getting better with the help of psychologists. this album, actually gives to us a hint that Suga feels better now. I believe he really is

A lot of the songs in his first Agust D album talked about such issues of mental health and I honestly do believe they saved my life. I know that to a lot of people the part depicting his self harm may be hard to watch, and it is, but it speaks to me so much because I used to and this helps me see how far I've come. Even though I so often feel like I'm running backwards, I've been clean of such actions for at least a year now. He's brought me such a sense of comfort and drive to fight, to keep going even when I'm at my worst and in the most pain mentally and physically (I've also got chronic health issues)

It's all true, Luke. This song contains his intensely personal story. And I cried the first time I saw this MV. It's so emotionally raw, so honest, and painful. It makes my heart clench to watch it; yet there is also a sense healing within it. He has been through the darkness, lost himself in his memories, but found his way back to the light. Rather than fighting against those painful memories, hiding from them, he has learned to accept them. Embrace them as an essential, albeit horrifically painful, part of himself.💜😍 Whether we accept those painful moments in our lives or not, they still shape us. Make us who we are. And accepting them, making peace with them, we may gain a sense of... contentment, a soft sense of peace - and, if lucky, happiness.💜 Virtual hugs Luke; and to everyone watching this video. Borahae 💜

You should know by now that BTS, whether group or solo, NEVER makes the same song twice. That is why there is something for everyone, for every mood and taste. All of Yoongi's albums were honest but this is definitely the most personal as it is all truths about his life, nothing fabricated here. And not coming from anger but coming from reflection and acceptance. For me he is also speaking up for idols throughout this album but this really is a standout track, heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.💜

Hi Guys, I saw the MV last night and I literally burst out into tears.... Knowing that everything that happened here is true with Agust D, Yoongi. SUGA describes his past in this MV and it as well identifies how "WE" as individuals have been going through... Hence he was saying to RM that their music speaks to ARMY and that is WHY we are here, and that is WHY he writes music.... I could completely resonated into each & every lyrics he wrote and sang, I was so heart broken. The MV is as GOOD as what he is displaying it to us so wonderfully with his raw lyrics... Thank you for sharing your past with us SUGA... We love you and appreciate you.. Thank you for your reaction @G.O.T Games

While Haegeum gives me Deachwita vibe, this Amygdala gives me Shadow and Nevermind vibe.. it screams raw emotion and this hits me hard as i too constantly struggle with my past painful memory, accompanied by depression.. The scene where he's crawling and trying to reach the door is exactly what it feels when we struggle mentally, although normal people would see it as such an easy escape and constantly mocking about how weak we are for not being able to overcome it.. but it actually feels like impossible (in the mv, suga symbolize it as crawling vertically). In the end, it feels hopeless.. Btw, this is just my interpretation as mdd fighter.. you may have your own interpretation..

This song is really sad and raw, even armys couldn't watch it for the second time. It really is painful if u know his past struggles (that he said publicly in some videos/articles). I cried so hard watching this (that time there was no trigger warning) so I was not prepared, good thing they put it after several mins ago. Yoongi is the strongest person i've ever know. He has my full respect as an artist and as a person. I'm so honored that he trusted us to share his vulnerability which is he's alr been doing for a long time but this song/mv is on another level, it is too personal and not just some fictional story. This is HIS real history. So it won't be pleasing to me if anybody, even if it's armys, makes a reaction video that looks like that it's just for a clout/views or makes tiktok edits or something. I won't tolerate that kind of behavior, it's just an inconsiderate and dumb move.

the black room is a trap of bad memories that Yoongi can't get out of. lives the tragedies of the past, as in Groundhog Day. the scar Suga inflicted on himself was the Suga who was stuck in the memory. and continues to hurt himself, not finding the strength in himself to learn from the past and free himself from the black room. Suga's words from the film Road to D Day about Amigdala: "I wanted to tell you how I got a scar over my eye from DAECHWITA and Haegeum. in a sense, we ourselves are responsible for our scars and wounds. from the first arrow of trouble you cannot dodge. but when the second arrow flies at you, you just stand there and wait for the blow. because you didn't learn the lessons the first time." Тhis means that when Suga immerses himself in the sad moments of the past again and again, it is tantamount to how he's doing the scar on his eye himself. in a figurative sense. therefore we are shown a repetition of the scene of the accident with the car and then the knife in the hands of Suga in Amigdala. so we have a trilogy. in DAECHWITA two Suga's with the scars fighting each other. In Haegeum, Suga tries to kill his alter ego. In Amigdala, on the contrary, he's tries to save himself. these are all the experiences that tormented Min Yoongi. inner struggle with oneself. attempts to destroy and kill oneself / attempts to save and healing oneself.

This one will never chart because it’s too empty for many to watch it more than once but it’s a gift to share such vulnerability with us to trust us with his story and learn from it. How do we unpack emotions and past traumas. Hugs to all that need it.

All in this is true, sadly...a truly deep dive by Yoongi into his past, but it shows his strengths to have gone through all of this and continue to endure. His song writing and messages stem from so much that transpired in his younger life emotionally-but above all else, I am so glad he was able to cope and ultimately survive it. This album is truly a mix, and some absolutely brilliant songs- a few had me in tears as they tug at your heartstrings and hit hard, but over all, simply an incredible masterpiece by probably one of (if not )the best K-Pop/all genre writers & producers out there.

Please note the split-second image of a hand holding almonds at 5:51. This is a reference to ALMOND: A NOVEL about a guy who has trouble identifying and describing experienced emotions because of a neuropsychologic condition (alexithymia). The "almond" refers to the amygdala, an almond-shaped area of the brain. Yoongi was seen reading this book in a preview to IN THE SOOP. The book is on Namjoon's recommended list.

You must see him sing " Seesaw" from the first day of his concert........ Your heart will fill up just seeing his face.

Your message asking people to connect with someone if they feel this way shows you really did understand the video. And it's what I've been seeing on comment threads - people feel seen, they feel less alone, and they (we) are talking to each other about it. He doesn't stop fighting in the video. He collapses at the end but you know he'll be fighting again soon. People are getting that message, not just the struggle, but that is worth fighting. I love Yoongi so much for this.

The expression on your face once the music video ended was just like mine. I realized after a few seconds that I was completely still staring at the screen just processing what I had just watched. The video is both heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. He is a work of art for sure.

It took me a full day to watch the MV after it's release (I'm watching this right after) after reading the lyrics, knowing his history, & also watching him talking about the song on the Disney+ doc I knew what I was in for. Everyone else covered things so well so I just want to say this there is ALWAYS hope let Yoongi's journey & this song be a remind of that. This track will always bring me tears but also inspiration for a better tomorrow.

Yes Luke, the stories in Suga's lyrics are all part of his past. He actually underwent shoulder surgery in 2020 bec of his motorcycle accident as a delivery boy that dislocated his shoulder just to make ends meet before their debut. And the cutter he was trying to scratch on his face explains why he had those scars in Daechwita & Haegeum. The recent episode of Suchwita renamed R-chwita where Suga was the guest & RM was host, Suga explained how the album came about.

5:30 ( all the things happened in the MV was true ) Because of this accident, he suffered a shoulder tear, so he had a shoulder operation.... Before his debut in the group, he used to work as a delivery guy.. was in a car accident, his shoulder was hurt a lot, and he wanted to perform a song concert (on & black swan) What made his shoulder condition worse because of the dance of the song, so he had to be absent from the group for 3 months and it was very difficult for him and us as ARMYs, now he has minor symptoms of pain because of his shoulder but less than before...so he is talking about himself before and about his suffering and the illness of his mother and father, oh, how sad, I am really proud of Yoongi, because he shares the nation with us, he is really a genius.😢❤ Another addition that amygdala It represents this black room in which he is sitting... That is, he cannot go back to the past to "SAVE" himself from that incident.. And the person in the past cannot bring out the person in the present... I hope I have said the matter properly.

This is a really deep true video that happened to Suga. So he is really showing army everything he went through in the pass. In 2012 Suga got hit by a car, when he was a delivery driver. And he crushed his shoulder, during accident. At that time he was only a trainee for Bighit. BTS haven't debuted yet, so Suga didn't want to tell his company Bighit about the injuries. Because he didn't want to get kick out of Bighit. Eight years Later in 2020 Suga finally had surgery for his injuries. Amygdala is a part of the brain that makes you have emotional and fear. Suga always shared with army about his pass. About his struggles, fear, anxiety he went through in pass. So now he over comes it, and wants to show us. The pills you see in video are his pain meds from having surgery. That he took after surgery. 😭😭😭🥵😥💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 And yes his parents on top of his own struggles. He also talked about his dad liver cancer, and his mom struggles too. 😭😭😭😭😭

Amygdala is a part of our brains. It's a little almond shaped piece that deals with and stored trauma, flight or fight, right and wrong, etc. it's straight emotion. Interesting little section of our brain. He is going through his memories that gave him pain and how he worked through his trauma in his past. The motorcycle incident is how he hurt his shoulder.

I dont interpret the ending as giving up, I see it as that he cant totally free himself from trauma memory, he cant change the past. He has to fnd a way to live still. Yoongi is showing an honest experience of trauma and Im so thankful to him

I deeply understand this theme, not only how our memories haunt us but we want to erase the fear patterns we developed in the past and it's so so hard to unlearn them. Those memories can literally be a cage you are afraid to escape from.

I’m not sure about his mom and dad, but he did have a really bad accident when he was a trainee. Yoongi was a food delivery person and got hit by a car. He said he opened his eyes and the tire was right in front of his face. He ended up under the car with a broken shoulder and couldn’t tell anyone what happened for fear of being kicked out of the group for having a job (not allowed). He even told the other members he fell down the stairs! Yoongi has shared his depression with us many times. My opinion: The grey “room” represents his depression. He can’t escape it. Just when he thinks he can it pulls him back in. It’s an uphill battle (literally in the MV). And the fact that he named it after the part of the brain that processes fearful and threatening stimuli is genius. He’s a genius.
