I enjoy commercial auditions that require improv. I get to be creative and really make it my own!
Lately, I’ve experienced a trend where Session runners insert their idea of what I should say as an improviser.
And for some reason, I deferred to them thinking they knew better than me.
I’d take their offer. And then I walk out of the audition feeling disappointed for not honoring my creativity.
But today, as it was happening, being told what to say, I thought “that’s cliche, everyone is going to say that.
When the camera rolled, I didn’t hesitate to say my thought. It was liberating and I don’t think anyone else said it.
Whether I get the part or not, I feel good because it was my idea, instead of the Session runner’s.
