Can you answer the recurring question from the comments regarding the reason there's a gap in the letter/number from cutting it in half with the rectangle tool?

SonduckFilm you could try and offset the flip past the final position then back, making it more 'swingy'

for some reason when I flip my letter vertical it flips my letter vertical in all of my different layers and compositions. Can someone explain to me why this could be happening?

This is good for one letter, but what would I need to do to set up A-Z and 0-9?

If you have experience with "Master Properties", you can do this animation for just one letter and pre-compose it. Then drop the "Soure Text" of the text-layer into the Essential Graphics Panel. The result is an additional chanel in your master composition where you can change the letter. So you can have indivdual letters using one and the same animation. Recently I made a project for a client where I needed a similar animation as a location-marker for airports. And with the help of expressions I made a template with one textlayer with the airport's name which got splitted up into all the single letters to feed all the single flip-animation.

@ 3:22 -- I've tried this a few times now but whenever I rotate the 3d "bottom 1" layer to give the illusion of the letter flipping, a gap is left on the plate between the top and bottom comps even though the alignment/placement of the letters on the plate (for both the top and bottom) is the same. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong?

Hey, i got the same issue. then i decided to reply since nobody did. You have "Anchor point tool (Y)" on top of your AE. Select that and select your "top" composition in the timeline before masking and bring the anchor point to the middle of the rectangle shape. then mask, duplicate,replace it with bottom composition (as in the video). you should be good to go

Select you layer you want to be replaced in the timeline and then select the layer you want it to be replaced with in the project window. Then press Alt-Ctrl-/ 🙂 Hope it will help.

Great effect, but you speed through too fast and leave out small details about where you are working. This makes this hard to follow. Slow down just a bit please.

I get frustrated when I wanna to do more characters...

the rotation doesn't work. it keeps rotating hella far and it doesn't even rotate correctly. watched tutorial 8 times and still couldn't find the problem.

For anyone else who has this problem: you move the center point of the red/green directional arrows using the "Pan Behind Anchor Point Tool" (Y) and move it to the base of the mask. It will then rotate around that point.

@@maryw459 could you elaborate more on this please? I don't think (Y) is the same shortcut & also when I try to manually move the red/green directional errors, it doesn't seem to change anything for me. thanks!

In my opinion the font should be same otherwise it makes an problem.
