One of the things the USA is famoys for abroad, and i'm talking as a european, is how skin color focused it is. Ecerything seems to have to go through the racial bias. In my country, whuch used to be a colonial empire, we do the opposite, and skin color is a taboo. It absolutely leads to its own issues, since people tiptoe around some subjects, but even with racist problems in the institutions and mrdia (which are basically the same thing as politics rn) on a day to day basis, no one cares ? It's actually becoming a problem here, because we globally went from "i don't see skin color and treat everyone the same" in the 90s, to "i see, acknoledge, and adress skin color before the person wearing it". There's a discussion about where to fairly stabilize the line between taboo and being colored-obsesses. Ironically, the "too focused side" is mostly understood as coming from the USA, and the "taboo side" is ironized and ununderstood by ex-colonies, where it's talked about way more freely ? (At least that's what i was told by people from some of those places). Like, how can ypu solve a problem if you don't see it first ? What a large topic.
