    Thanks Craig! Yeah the magnets are great. Watch out for vibrations though depending on the surface you stick them to. If the metal is wobbly the mic might pick it up or pick up resonating frequencies. A bit of eq in post or moving the mics around can help sort it though!

    Nice recorder, I love the Tascams, have the DR40 and the DR701D, both excellent recorders with very low self noise, what you have there is a great piece of kit.

    Good stuff. Nice little setup but a bit bulky for me with the Tascam. I prefer the F3 and a set of Usi's, but always have the H1n in my backpack. I was hoping Deity would have released their tiny new 32bit PR2 recorder by. now but they're taking ages to do it. That's a real nice option if they ever release it !

    Cheers again crypto! Oo i'll have to do some research into the Deity, not heard about that one. Maybe get my hand on one and do a video on it. Yes, the tascam can be a bit bulky sometimes. I think i'll invest in a F3 when im back in the UK. All out of stock when i left for Australia!

    @@rarefindssound Cheers. Yeah, the Deity PR2 was shown at audio trade Expo's back in March or April and was scheduled for June/July release I think, and it's still not here. If you search online there are some YTube videos about it from the trade shows and a few shops have a page for it since ages. It's a tiny thing but I seem to remember the functionality is a bit odd, in that it maxes-out at 48kHz and fixed at 32bit. Still, for everyday stuff it should be a great replacement for the H1n and it's so small it fits in a shirt pocket and also has a very decent Bluetooth control App by all accounts. No idea about pricing though.

    Haven't heard of the Deity one. Was in the market for an affordable field recorder and H1n or the new about-to-be-released H1 Essential seem to be appropriate. Would you recommend getting an H1 or an older more pro model of Zoom/different brand (which could be cheaper atm)? If so, which one would you recommend? Bugdet - max 100 GBP. Thanks!

  • @cryptotrader2779

    @cryptotrader2779

    @@watzmaaname Personally I forgot the Deity and ordered the new Zoom H1e yesterday, so that should be here in a few days. I got it for 90 bucks and it will replace my old H1n as my "every day carry" recorder when I'm out and about. It records up to 96kHz 32bit, so for that crazy low price I can only recommend that for under 100. Of course you'll also need wind protection and some sort of handle like a pistol grip or small tripod, as the handling noise is also a big factor with these handhelds. So it's up to you. All depends on whether you want to be bothered setting the gain every time or not. If you want to learn how to do that an older Zoom or second hand H1n would be fine as a starter. For me I don't want to set gain on a recorder that's always in my pocket, because when I'm out and about I want to quickly whip out a recorder and press record without any worry of clipping when I hear something interesting. There's a lot of factors to consider really. What do you want it for ? Do you want the added option of a couple of XLR inputs or not ? That could help in future if you get some cheap-ish XLR mics.

    Are you pleased to see me or is that Tascam in your pocket .... oh, it's a field recorder. I like what you did with the mics. I have an oldish Rhode NT4 and it is incredibly sensitive and crystral clear, but not in the least bit discreet. Nonetheless it is amazing what we can do with simple tools these days.

    Yeah, it can depend on what I'm sticking them on. Sometimes I will try and find a more solid and isolated surface but other times I'll have to EQ a bit in post if it picks up rumbles etc.
