FINALLY! I found a *actual* affordable drugstore routine. I'm definitely not a newbie, but I've looking for some new ideas for styling my wavy curly hair. This is the first video I've found that isn't recommending tiny 8 oz bottles of product for $10-15 each as the "affordable" option. Thank you!

Great vid!! There are truly so many CG products under $15 at the grocery/drug store these days. I've been binge watching your older videos and your tips and tricks gave me my best wash day ever the other day!! Thank you so much again for all the work you do, it's greatly appreciated ❤️ Edit: measuring is a lifesaver!! I find that 1 tsp tends to look like a lot more in the palm than it does in the spoon, it's way more accurate just to measure

Hey Courtney. Great video. I have that Suave shampoo and the Cantu Curl Cream. I don't have that particular gel but I still have some of the first type of gel I got when I started wearing my hair curly. The good ol' LA Looks gel that costs about $5 at the local drug store. It works really well for me. I have both high end and affordable products and like and dislike them equally. I am glad you have shown people you don't have to break the bank for a good washday.

I am 37 and my hair has randomly decided to turn curly. It's always been a bit wavy and frizzy, but now there are loose ringlets too. I am suuuuuuper hair lazy. No drying or styling, literally pony tails every day. I have fine hair, but LOTS of it. BUT I decided to embrace the curly. You're videos have been so great and educational. I'm excited to give your recommendations a try!

I laughed out loud when you said you hated the Cantu Curl Activator the first time you used it. The first time I put it in my hair my reaction was "What is this goop?" I dunked my head under the bathtub faucet to dilute it and started working it into my hair and whoa did it activate my curls! I do like the way it works in my hair. Anyway, your hair looks great! You and your hair look amazing!! I want to emphasize the need for caution with the Cantu curl activator cream. My hair is currently a bit longer than my profile pic (almost shoulder length), low density and fine. I use a RICE sized amount for my whole head. Be sure to consider all those factors when using this, or any, product.

I love this video. I've bought everything she suggested except I got a different shampoo and conditioner because the two she suggested weren't available in store and I didn't want to wait for them to ship to me. I've been doing this for 2 months and my hair is looking so good. My hair wasn't really curly at all when I started and now it's developing really nice curls. If when you try this and it doesn't really seem to be working the first or third time don't give up! It's going to seem like so much work for no results. But I kept doing it and curls started to really show up after probably the 5th or 6th time I washed my hair

It’s fascinating how different product availability is in Canada. We have all those brands, but I can’t find any of those specific items, except the cantu. And that cantu is $16.99 lol. Every time a US YBer recommends Garnier, I pause the video and search my grocery shop app and tons of items come up, but not the one recommended. Same thing happened with me today with Harry’s. Lots of shaving products 😂 Suave was my fav brand back in the day, I’d always buy it at the grocery store, it was $1/bottle back then ❤️ still love watching your videos!

I have fragile high porosity color-treated hair. Yes, people say hair like mine needs protein, but my hair has started getting protein sensitive so I am *primarily* dealing with its difficulty retaining moisture. Here are some products that are semi-affordable that helps my hair- 1. A soft t-shirt to microplop after your shower; then I plop with the same t-shirt; usually, I just grab the same tee I was wearing before I took my shower- one less item for me to launder 😉 2. I am picky about shampoos so most of the ones I like are $$. However, Shea Moisture makes a lovely one- the Shampoo for intensive hydration with Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil. IME, many shampoos either leave my hair feeling waxy OR on the other extreme, they leave my hair tangled and dry. This Shea Moisture shampoo is a nice one. When a need MORE cleansing, I go for the Shea Moisture Black Castor Oil shampoo. It’s a very nice one too. I bought the Giovanni Smooth As Silk Shampoo but I haven’t tried it yet. I bet it will be excellent and it’s sold at my local grocery store so that convenient. I also love the Giovanni 50/50 shampoo for a moderate cleanse. It’s fairly gentle and affordable. Umm, I’m gonna stop now. Sorry for takin over the comment section. 😂

Your hair looks awesome Courtney! I do wash and condition and style my hair bending over. I can’t really go completely upside down because of back problems but I do lean over halfway. My hair does not like glycerin or aloe. I get either frizz or flash drying. I bought the Harry’s gel and used it once but maybe I should revisit it.

@@Sofia-kp8iw I’ve tried it three times now and to be honest I don’t love it. It is the absolute stickiest gel I have ever used in my life. I’m trying it over different stylers each time. I never disturb my curl clumps that form in the shower once I get out of the shower and yet by the time I get through applying the Harry’s gel and diffusing just a bit I got frizz and I don’t get any hard cast. I would say if you really like a very hard hole gel then go for it. I’m going to probably look for something else and maybe occasionally try it over a different styler and see if it gets better

Garnier also makes a 3-in-1 conditioner (rinse out, mask, leave-in) in this same line that I actually like better than this rinse-out only conditioner. It comes in a jar. I've been using it on my curls for years (in all 3 of the ways), and it is the best thing to detangle my daughter's long hair with a Wet Brush. I even put some in a little travel bottle, bring some shampoo and a gel and I'm good to go.

I really appreciate this video, especially being on a tight budget. I’ve kinda stopped watching many of the “influencers” videos. It is disheartening that most of them have found their “holy grail”. You get a rush of videos depending on which company sent out their products for free to these people. I would believe them, rush out and spend way too much money on hair stuff. If it worked, it would be an investment. But it didn’t and I have so many products that don’t work. Then I caught on, they are kinda being bought. Now I shriek when I hear the phrase “ holy grail “. I’m a slow learner. I so wanted these expensive products to work, but they usually don’t if you don’t have the right type of hair.

First of all: I think this is one your best curls ever! I wish this one was out when I started! I spent hours looking for products, looking at your and Indias videos, and still was lost... Cuz most of your products did not sell here in Norway... Bought the cheapest I could find, a few good wash days but mostly bad... Spent more on expensive products, same struggles. Can't seem to find the problem, seems like no one else has the same problems I encountered.. After 10 months, I almost gave up, after trying and mostly failing... Then suddenly, last week my local store had some Maui Moisture & Shea Moisture products, which have been impossible to find! So spent another fortune, and will try some more... If it doesn't work with these either, I am quitting! (Until NYM or EVA NYC becomes avaliable :P ) And totally off; but would you consider doing a makeup-video one day? Your look is so natural and discreet for everyday makeup :)

Have you used any of the ingredient apps? I think there's one called CurlScan? I also realized that I've had struggles with my hair because of the climate I live in (humid in summer, still wet and cold in winter) and because of the water in my area which is hard and full of calcium and chlorine. Even the best styling products can't help me if I have hard water build up 😖.

I really need to save up $ so I can do your Curl Course, as I've been doing CG (based on you, not on reading the CG manual--you are way more fun) since fall of 2020 and am still having trouble. I'm wondering if you ever had trouble with the top of your head being completely flat and looking like someone smashed gel into the top? Even when I use small amounts of product and try to lift the hair at my scalp with diffuser prongs, it just looks bad, and I can't get any sort of part in my hair like you do. I'm type 2b/2c, fine hair, and low-density (latter unlike you, I think). I've looked at vids by people with low-density hair, like Gena Marie, but most of them have much curlier hair (3a-3c), and their techniques just leave my hair looking frizzy rather than with luscious curl clumps and waves. When I try doing the fluffing of my scalp with my fingers, as you demonstrated after scrunching out the crunch, I get frizzy tendrils that look like an eerie halo of alien tentacles above my head. Sorry this is so long. But if you have ideas for low-density hair and/or flat top and crown of head issues, I'd be grateful!

I tried a ton of gels & Aussie is usually one of my go to’s.. Also add in claw clips or clips while diffusing when your hair is almost dry, when a 100% dry I go in underneath and do circular motions to add even more volume. If u find it leaves a bit of frizz use an approved oil like righteous roots & use the tiniest bit to smooth out the frizz, like just gently rub it over the frizz spots after u SOTC which it is also good to be used for. Just make sure it is the tiniest amount or you’ll have to was your hair again lol

Your before pic is exactly what mine looks like right now, it has a tousled look. I just started my curl journey so I’m still learning, your vids are great! I have 2A/2B hair. I’m 45 and get highlights to help hide gray hairs so I have very dry hair, but I have one section in the back where it’s curlier than any other part of my hair it’s also courser and drier, it literally becomes a rat’s nest in the shower on my wash days. Seems I can’t tame it. I don’t know what to do, any suggestions? Trying to comb through it while conditioner is in my hair is still a task and I end up pulling out a lot of hair. No matter how much conditioner I put on it it’s not enough. Any tips? Btw, your personality is amazing, you have fun with your videos which keeps people’s attention.

The bleach even if a little, will make those pieces drier. Try a flexy brush with a lot of conditioner in. Since we don’t wash our hair as often we definitely lose way more than girls with straight hair. Also make sure to use a leave in & feel free to brush it through & the lightly scrunch. Get all the knots out when cond is still in & keep adding water. Water is your bff!!

I've tried that Suave shampoo and was pretty disappointed. To be fair, I tried it again down the road and my hair just did NOT like it. It made my hair feel dirty afterwards, plus I remember it being pretty tangled. Now this doesn't mean the product is bad, it was just my experience. It's interesting how things turn out for different people.

Courtney! New to your channel and already loving your personality. I've been sulfate free for many years but honestly, I've been over washing. Last week I went into my bathroom with my scissors and came out with shoulder length hair which I've been babying since. I'm 2b, low density (thanks for that one, motherhood) low porosity and I've always been on the oily side. My question is...have you tried making your own flaxseed hair gel? It's fast, super easy and CHEAP! Things are tight these days and I am all about keeping things affordable. Just curious whether you use any diy hair products. I don't feel comfortable making shampoos and calculating PH levels, but what about gels and hair masks? I've been wanting to try an avocado based hair mask on my clarifying days.

Honestly my hair has never looked better and my curls really lasted and held up over several days. I'm absolutely thrilled with my purchase and so glad I bought it Hope this helps! Jane

Courtney, with all due respect I disagree with you on Suave Sulfate-Free shampoo and Garnier Treat conditioners being affordable unless a person has hair that's above their shoulders. In my opinion, if you're using liquid conditioners and going through one normal-size bottle in a month, they're wildly expensive. Truly affordable conditioners are in a bar form. I've been using Ethique Curliosity conditioner since October 2021 (with my mom) and we still have two months' worth left (it was originally 4 oz). I find with conditioner bars I barely use more than 1.5 bars in a year and spend no more than $18 on both shampoo and conditioner in a year now (compared to roughly $20-24 on conditioner alone when I used liquid stuff).
