Ok they're fucking morons but I can explain the one where he flies low before continuing. If you're overweight you can use ground effect. The wings are most effective just above the ground because there's a cushion of air below the wings, you need less energy and speed to sustain it. So, it's actually _taught_ to use ground effect in that exact way on soft field takeoff for example, or other situations where getting airborne asap is more important than getting up to your climbing speed.
The fact that Aerosucre has enough fails to make a compilation is horrifying

At 1:45 where the pilot was staying low to the ground instead of climbing right away, they were doing that on purpose. It’s something called ground effect where you eliminate induced drag (drag caused by lift) to gain more airspeed to be able to climb out. Often a technique used with smaller airplanes on grass strips, not normally used by airliners, or atleast any I’ve been on.
@sasino
Жыл бұрын
They're doing that because they knowingly go overweight every single flight to minimize costs, pilots are definitely aware of it
@commanderhurst3283
Жыл бұрын
The reason why airliners don't use that technique is because it's dangerous and any trained pilot should never do it in an airliner. However I would not be surprised if these pilots from Sucreair only had basic flight training and still treat their planes as if they are small cheaper aircraft...
@judet2992
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, there are actually types of aircraft which use only the ground effect because they are so efficient. They’re called Ekranoplans.
@BarometricQuad

Would be a nightmare if the plane still managed to stall for sure
@ska042
6 ай бұрын
@@commanderhurst3283 The reason they do it is because they're overloaded. If they didn't gain that speed before climbing, they would probably be on the edge of stalling in the initial climb phase. So it's a double whammy, the maneuver itself is dangerous, and the reason they have to do it is the dangerous load situation.
3:47 maintaining the centreline would be the least of their concerns compared to everything else lmao

The plane that crashed was serving as Aerosucre Flight 157 (sometimes registered as Aerosucre Flight 4544, because the plane was immatriculated as HK-4544) from Germán Olano Airport, Puerto Carreño, Colombia to El Dorado International Airport, Bogotá, Colombia. 1:37 I could be wrong, but it looks like they're trying a softfield takeoff (you basically rotate early, but instead of climbing, you keep the aircraft in ground effect ie fly level a few feet above, accelerate there, and then start climbing with a higher speed)
@RoberttSmithh

@robgreen6174
Жыл бұрын
They are holding ground effect to build airspeed speed to Vy (climb speed) until initiating the climb which is also used in a soft field takeoff but a maneuver in itself. Ground effect creates a “cushion of air” beneath you. Unless trimmed out right you actually begin fighting the plane to keep your nose down as it wants to balloon up. Given they’re likely overweight, it’d make sense they’d do so (if enough distance to obstacle)
@SgfGustafsson
Жыл бұрын
@robgreen6174 Ground effect is not a cushion of air, that is a common misconception. If you were using ground effect to accelerate you'd climb out a Vx not Vy to clear obstacles. Finally airlines do not use Vy or Vx they calculate their speeds based off of weight and conditions to meet a required profile. They'd use V2 initially which is a takeoff safety speed, before they reach their flap retraction schedule and accelerate to Vfto.
