I miss the sound of Superman flying through the air like some guided missile. I miss the Reeves' style of flying, as if aerodynamics were of any consequence. But mostly, I miss Reeves himself. He had this bulked-up look (which certainly wasn't muscle and more likely padding), but he was a consummate actor. And no matter how cheesy the script, he handled each and every episode with grace and sincerity. Many look back at Christopher Reeve as being the embodiment of Superman. Who cared that a bird was chirping on it? It didn't matter. Note how Reeves' breastplate that they used to string him up with guy-wires bulges out when he carries the bomb to the asteroid. They did a special shot for that. Reeves was the first Superman I ever saw. (I saw the serial with Kirk Alyn much later on). To me, he was Superman. Period. Modern day, toss-up between Reeve and Cavill, but this show brings back great memories.

@@ECO473, yes, Reeve's Kent was sharp, smart, acted sensibly--and had wit. I don't know how much Reeves contributed to the writing, but also I liked the way the character was written; his excuses for not being present were never cowardly, but useful and crucial to resolving the situation. This Clark was respectable as a person.

Reeve was outstanding, but for many of us George Reeves was the Man.

George Reeves was the best Superman. Even with the poor special effects he really sold that he was the man of steel. It also helped that George Reeves had a smile and charisma that was unstoppable! It never bothered me that he wasn’t all bulked up…Superman got his strength and abilities from the yellow ☀️ and not massive muscles!
Superman is my FAVORITE superhero. He had it all: He could fly; super-strength, xray vision, heat vision and he was invulnerable. In a word: "Jeepers."
superman, everybodys hero. We need him now more than before.

George Reeves was great! I miss the old days of hurrying home from first grade to watch re-runs in the afternoon! The best of times.
George Reeves was absolutely, unequivocally the best SUPERMAN ever ~

Flight around the world with the little girl. Heartwarming. a
Great job putting together his best flying scenes - I loved this show as a kid....and the kid in me STILL loves Superman - and George Reeves made an imposing Superman for certain. Perhaps some of the flying looks a tad primitive compared with the computerized antics of today, but life was simpler then and the heart of this show did come across with sincerity ~

Great technology for the time period. Season two had the best flying effects. The flying effects were different during the color years as what was done in B&W couldn't be reproduced in color.

@@longstreet47 I certainly agree that season 2's flying effects were the best by far. Also, the closeups showing the intensity in George's face left no doubt that the Super Dude had to get somewhere in a hurry. Bravo, just...bravo!!!
I am sitting at home in the mid 1950s with my older brother watching George Reeves on a 13 inch black and white Philco television amazed to see him fly and rescue people and or animals. Nostalgia or not these were good times.

What an incredible compilation of Superman flying. Thank you!! I have so many wonderful memories of watching The Adventures of Superman. Superman use to come on around 5 PM when I was 6 years old. I'm now 69 & still love this show just as much after all these years. George Reeves was so charismatic & that smile was precious & looked like he was really enjoying himself in light of some bad scripts. If he had lived George he would have found out how his fans loved him so much & would have probably had a statue erected of him someplace. There will never be another Superman as good as George Reeves. RIP George
I agree with the gentleman about the episode where Superman (George Reeves) flies around the world with the crippled girl. I still tear up every time I watch it because of how wonderful Reeves acts in the scene. The little girl actress kills it when she kisses Reeves and his always charming smile. He is still the greatest actor to ever portray the role, followed by Christopher Reeves.

How I wish John Williams would conduct a full orchestra to the score of this wonderful memory of my childhood! Could you imagine, the harps, violin, tympami and cello at the start, followed by the heralding trumpets?!?
Wow...especially the "Panic In The Sky" clip....extraordinary extended flying sequence and special music...
George reeves was the best superman. could you imagine how good the series would have been with today's technology advances mind blowing what he could have accomplished
I find it sad that George didn't live long enough to experience how extraordinary popular he would have been as his many fans grew into adults. He could have lectured about the show to sold out crowds, signed autographs at $100 a pop and the line would have stretched around the block. His many fans (like me) would have idolized him...oh what might have been.
I wasn't born in the 1950's but I love this show

After watching the adventures of superman when I was about 4. I was convinced I could fly, I was so impressed...in my bedroom I stood up on the edge of my open window ready to fly across the streets, just a short trip. At that exact moment before l leaped out , mom opens my bedroom door, seen where I was and calmly said "come on down Robbie, I have some candy for you. Boy, I didn't know candy could hurt... I wasn't allowed to watch superman again in my youth. Great show for kids and adults...I watch whenever it makes a comeback. Still can't fly through.

robert szvetics THEY DID YEARS AGO ALL THE SEASONS. I HAVE THEM .
As a kid over fifty years ago, I'd run home from school to watch this show. Panic In The Sky was my favorite episode. Who cared if the asteroid had strings on top of it? Who cared that a bird was chirping on it? It didn't matter. Note how Reeves' breastplate that they used to string him up with guy-wires bulges out when he carries the bomb to the asteroid. They did a special shot for that. Reeves was the first Superman I ever saw. (I saw the serial with Kirk Alyn much later on). To me, he was Superman. Period. Modern day, toss-up between Reeve and Cavill, but this show brings back great memories.
Wow his takes offs are fantastically performed by him I guess wearing in those Keds can do wonders when you need that extra bounce to take off
Definitely as a young kid my first childhood hero
2:42 anyone noticed the stitches on his left torso?
I like the wind speed sounds! That is something missing from recent movies!
This was the greatest èver done of all time
to my generation George Reeves was Superman and always will be
"fighting a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way."
Note that when Superman flies from left to right, it's just a mirror reverse of the right to left flight (revealed by the "S" shield on his chest being backwards).
I could just imagine how many people hopped out the window that year. Oh Geez..
I can't believe the save that test footage from 70 years ago. That is fantastic
Brutal stitching job on the outfit at 2:43.
Looks like actual test footage from the actual show... Funny to see him talking to someone in that first clip.
The rear screen projection looked really good. 1:53 Wish they used it more.
Things you don't realize when your a kid..its sunny in space, there are birds on a astroid, and win flying to Germany he fly's west instead of east and vice- versa ..and that the daily plants is actually Parker center polices dept and court house..but the music is what gets it, close your eyes and listen and its you dreaming about flying
And you saved the best for last.
The STOLEN COSTUME EPISODE was A CLASSIC AMONG CLASSICS!!!

Wires, cables and pulleys. When wires eventually broke and George Reeves fell to the ground, they invented a body pan which Reeves could lay on and technicians could move and roll out of camera shot. The pan was against his body and beneath his suit. You can see it in some of these shots.
Loved it
