I loved how George played Clark Kent with a lot more confidence, and not constantly being clumsy like all other versions of Superman made Clark to be. George really was the best Superman!! R.I.P.

If you listen carefully, he actually asks, "Stuperman, where are you!"

They don't recognize him without the glasses because he plays 'the attitude' in such a convincing way no one can make the connection, what a master !!!

In the source material he isn't, it was really only the films with Christopher Reeve where he acted like that. He can be clumsy and a bit "dorky" in the comics and other adaptations but he still typically behaves like a regular dude. And the "dorky" part is what makes him endearing, at least to me.

@@mlb12041998 The 90s TV version of Clark said, "Superman is what I can do. Clark is who I am." He WAS Clark Kent (Jonathan and Martha's son) and wanted to be liked for the "real" person - which is why he didn't want to tell Lois he was Superman during the time that she was in love with Superman and dismissive of Clark (and later she actually starts to have feelings for Clark.) But on the other hand, given what we know about his powers, he obviously doesn't really need the glasses, so the only reason for choosing to wear them is to make himself look nerdier and hide the resemblance to Superman. Actually, in the 90s show it seems like he had glasses before he even started being Superman.

How and why would Superman pretend to be a regular Joe like Clark Kent? He's basically a god. Clark and Superman just happen to look similar. Irony aside, the glasses actually work. Henry Cavill sat on a park bench all day in a Superman logo T-shirt, in front of a Superman movie billboard, in the middle of Time's Square, and NO ONE said anything. He was approached by one little old lady asking for directions and that is it.

George will always be Superman to me.R.I.P. George.👏👏👏👏👏👏

Loved watching The Adventures of Superman. Brings back so many good memories as a child. Thanks for uploading this iconic show !

Even without glasses, his heaviness and that he received no cuts from any of the glass, they don’t even suspect or question whether he might be Superman. The 50s were definitely a much simpler time.

And she has a dream where Superman proposes to her, and then later tells her he's Clark - so she either suspected or wanted it to be like that.

George was the best. So regrettable he didn't live to experience the admiration of his many fans.

One of the unique features of The Adventures of Superman was the portrayal of Clark Kent as the hard-hitting crime-beat reporter who hung out with the chief of police, rather than the ineffective character in the comics (and later portrayals). This worked for the series because Clark was on stage much more of the time than Superman was - itself a wise decision. Save Superman for the special times he's needed.

I've always thought that George's vision of Clark Kent was spot on as a guy you'd want to shoot pool with on a Saturday night. For me, it was Clark's natural, quiet confidence that showed he didn't need to do the fumbling buffoon routine to hide the fact that he was Superman. Kent's being just another guy was understated just enough that most people wouldn't connect him to Superman. Thanks to George Reeves, Clark Kent was no punk. It is heartbreaking to no end that George didn't live long enough to see how genuinely beloved he really was. I miss him.

@@gracealexandre3381 I think sometimes he did "bumble" purposely to confuse people - like when he pulls Lois into the water in this clip, seemingly throwing cold water, so to speak, on her suspicions.

This is one of the first Superman actors and yet his physique is one of the most credible to play this role.

George Reeves was a great Superman and the best Clark Kent ever! Plus, Lois Lane was very attractive! Loved it!!

The Clark in bed without glasses....... Jimmy (jack Larson) explained in an interview many years after the show that just after filming that scene he went to the director about seeing Clark without glasses, which was the first time on the show. Jack said the director talked to other production staff and went back and forth on how to deal with it. They thought it would be too strange for him to have the glasses on after the fall in the shower, and they loved the scene so much to cut it. In the end the director just threw up his hands and said leave it in the scene, and not talk about it.

Clark Kent and Superman had identical voices too.

I grew up in the 90s, and my dad worked until 10 at night and he’d let me stay up to watch this with him on Nick at Nite...I’ll always love this show!

I think that a great part of the fun of watching the Superman TV series with George Reeves was that Lois was forever wondering if Clark was Superman.......and sometimes it seemed like Lois, or Jimmy, must discover the truth, but of course they never did. I remember one episode in particular where Clark was actually forced by circumstances to reveal that he was Superman....but fortunately Professor Peperwinkle (Remember him?!) had invented a spray can of memory loss gas and he gave Lois and Jimmy a good spray and so Superman's secret was safe yet again! I never missed an episode when I was a child and I was fortunate enough to buy the complete series on DVD when they were sold off by or Local Library. Still enjoy watching them to this day.

George Reeves was supposedly good with accents. But with "The Face and the Voice" episode fm Season 2 he seems to mix a Brooklyn accent with a New Orleans accent.

What a gorgeous man! Sad he died so tragically....

This is a classic program, very well performed by all involved. I think one of my favorite Superman scenes is in Superman Returns, when Brandon Routh’s portrayal of Superman has him walking towards a Gatling gun, and ending with a pistol shot to his eye. No flinching or ducking … just true, superhuman abilities on display. George Reeves is still, and will always be, “Superman.” Sometimes, the writers and director get it right. And in this series, the producers, writers, and cast got it right. Thanks for the upload.

George Reeves expressed on a number of occasions his desire to be acknowledged as an actor by adults. Ironic that my generation, who are now in their 60s, member George not just for being our favorite Superman, but the fine actor, and person, that he was.

Not to be a purist by from the very beginning in the comic books, Clark Kent was portrayed as a weakling who fled from every fight. Even something mild like a gangster cutting in on Clark's dance with Lois depicted him giving in and earning her scorn. The dual character of Zorro was the same: Feign weakness to divert suspicion. And yet... somehow, some way, George Reeves made this more confident version of Clark Kent work with his easy charm and likeable manner. These episodes are a delight thanks to him and the cast.

Man, looked straight at the dude without his glasses on and didn't say, "He looks exactly like Superman without his glasses on! Hey, wait a minute!"

Super man is still on at 5 am central time in Oklahoma. My wife has never seen the show and now she is up every morning on Saturday to watch Superman. I grew up watching Superman on the East Coast. The show was on every day so I never missed a show.

Noel Neill was the sweetest Lois too, I had such a crush on her. Always wondered if that Lois and Superman got together, back in the day? Their characters I mean, not the actors. Maybe the actors too, who knows? George was quite the player too. She was suspicious always but so sweet, as opposed to the first Lois, Phyllis Coates, who was hard and unfriendly, and not very appealing to say the least. She just did the first season I believe. Thank goodness!

There are one or two episodes that I liked with Phyllis, and she could scream lie a bobcat, but I preferred Noel much more. Season 2 had quite a few shooting and more brutal stuff happening. Kellogg's was a sponsor on the 2nd season and asked the producers if they could tone it down a bit.

They didn't add the episode where he really does expose his secret to everyone. They even watch him change his outfits. Luckily, he had a spritzer of memory loss spary handy to make them all forget

George Reeves was a very accomplished actor. Loved watching his Superman show.

The Batman in many ways I've always felt that George Reeves was the best Superman. Granted one can argue that he was a little old for the role, and he wasn't the "perfect physical specimen that some of the Supermen were. The special effects were primitive, and the later plots were poorly written. But George Reeves simply carried himself in such a way, with an underlying self-confidence, that he was completely believable both as Clark and Superman. Few other Superman actors were able to strike that balance.

Most of the time, he didn't get to show much range. It must have been frustrating for him as an actor, and was probably a treat when he got to do things like the amnesia scene, or playing the stupid-talking lookalike.

In the sixties in Chicago, I used to get up at six on Saturday mornings to catch The Roy Rogers Show and then The Adventures of Superman right after it. It was a great time to be a kid!

Panic In The Sky is my favorite episode. Thank you.

He was the smoothest Clark too. Not just the smoothest Superman :)

People were more polite and respectful to each other back then. Everyone was mr, miss or mrs. Jimmy was supposedly right out of high school. But weirdly, Clark was, too, when applying for his first job at the Daily Planet. Still, the show was for comic book readers, so it suspends belief.

Although the premise[that no one recognized Clark's real idendity] was absurd--yet it was also humorous.. I loved the series and watching the episodes reminded me of my happy childhood[I grew up in the 1950's]

To all those who ask, why can't they see Clark Kent as Superman without his glasses. That question was answered in an old Superman comic book. The mind control is almost the answer. When he looks at people through his glasses, it has a hypnotic affect on the person he looks at. They see him differently than what he really looks like. It's the effect of the lenses. They were made from the window of the spaceship that brought him to Earth. Like his costume, indestructible because it was made of the blankets he was wrapped in when he came to Earth.

Manuel: I was going to provide the same information until I read your comment. There was also a time when people kept asking about how his x-ray vision could create fires. Then, DC comics just started referring to an additional power of "heat vision." When people were wondering about what he did with his Clark Kent clothes, the explanation was he compressed them and kept them in a pouch inside his cape. Over the past few years I have purchased all of the Superman Silver Age comics from October 1960 up to November 1970. I also have every Action Comic from June 1960 up to December 1970. Needless to say I had to pay far more than 10 cents, and then 12 cents per copy.

Steven Brant Yeah and unlike Chris Reeves, he acted the same as Kent as when he was Superman, no real change in attitude, voice, posture or goofiness. Sorry, but I always felt he had no interest in Lois, liked Jimmy better, in these old shows. IN that one clip I would have thought Supes was being an ass not saving Clark immediately- yeah, OK you're drowning hang on, I'll get to saving you, be patient ! - WTH.

To me, this Superman was always a most likable character and a most magnificent, Super Man of all!

George Reeves was the best Superman, so much like the comic books especially this particular episode,, love the look on George Reeves face when he knocked the Bell off the strongman Sledgehammer strength test. This particular show at the circus could have been in Adventures of Superman comic book.

Reeves was to the Superman role what Clayton Moore was to The Lone Ranger.excluding the original film serial portrayal which is excellent in it's own right. They were TVs earliest "superheroes", besides Captain Kangeroo. Fighting for truth, justice and the American way. We have strayed far away from these basic principals. I hope we can find our way back. These characters were incredibly important roll models in the 50s.Most people I know from that time believe in truth and kindness and generosity of spirit. I wish our dimension could return to those simple truths. Thanks for a nice compilation!

@@garycwelch6782 You also have to look at where American culture was at the time. Teachers and policemen were in positions of authority. Almost everyone trusted their government. Television never showed men and women sleeping in a single bed, and so on. That was the formula for TV programs then. Did you ever see any blood on people who got shot in a western? Rarely, if at all. And the Lone Ranger pretty much always shot the guns out of the hands of the bad guys. There is Hollywood fantasy and there is the real world. Big difference.

Superman was one of the best shows back then.

At about 3:13 you can see the entire crew's reflection on the side of the car. I loved watching Superman, Batman, so many to name while growing up, was born in 1960. Just about everything was better on TV back then thru the 70's, then came the 80's, PHF!

I love this Superman, I grew up with this as well as the Lone Ranger...always will, George Reeves was good as Superman, and Clayton Moore will always be the Lone Ranger to me as well

They were part of my childhood

Superman was always close to blowing his cover as Clark Kent on this show, especially when he speaks. In one episode, Superman rescues Lois and says, if you all excuse me, I gotta get back to the office. The office asks Lois,Yes, I gotta help Clark Kent write a series of articles. It worked, no further inquiry.

Today he would be known as Superperson.

I always enjoyed Reeves' portrayal of Clark; quiet, but confident, capable and very much his own person, outside of the more obviously Alpha Superman.

I had no idea he took his glasses off so much in that show!

"Who is Superman?, asks Superman. Ace reporter, newspaper editor, news photographer, collectively have the brain power equivalent to a piece of pound cake.

So amazing how a pair of glasses can totally conceal ones identity.

Wow just seeing the late murdered George reeves and the late Noel Neil working together just as they did 66 years back to today is the best and cleanest possible way to have TV in black and white and 3 years later technicolor itself too bad all the Superman characters are dead including Christopher reeve (dead at 52,2004) and Margot kidder (dead at 69,2018) that is too bad we'll miss them forever forevermore oh well but their performances and characters live on in our hearts and minds for years to come hopefully that simple peace and blessings to you all.

LOL at 3:14 you can see the whole crew reflected in the car. Love this stuff!

A 1953 Nash Rambler Convertible Landau. From 1951-1954, they used Nash cars. In 1955, they switched to Chrysler

I swear that sometimes people can be so oblivious to see that Clark & Superman are 1 & the same.

I am surprised when Superman arrives that Lois says "Hahaha. Clark, where did you get that Superman outfit?"

Somewhere in the 1950s two young brothers are watching a man fly through the air as he helps the desperate simultaneously taking down the bad guys. George Reeves was a real Superman to these children. Gone too early Reeves left his mark on generations of children.

Isn't it odd that after Clark walked the plank Superman showed up in a dry costume.

A Geiger counter always clicks. There’s always cosmic rays flying around. Maybe it wasn’t turned on!

Christopher Reeve was my favorite version of Kal-el. George Reeves was my favorite version of Clark Kent. R.I.P. to both of these talented actors.

So Kent is NOT wearing his glasses yet no one recognizes him DOH !!!!!!

It is a fictional show and KIDS were watching it not adults! We loved and and we knew they should be able to see Clark is Superman but we knew it was all for fun just like, Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Top Cat, and all the Looney Tune cartoons! Enjoy!

I just discovered this and the very first episode of Superman. Today is 9-11-2019 18 years since we needed Superman. The captian went on to play bad guys in the old westerns. I think George Reeves actually thought he was Superman. It was a fine show to grow up with now that I am 62 and just finding one of my fav shows!

Noel Neill joked that the characters couldn't see that Superman was Clark Kent because the actors wanted to keep their jobs.

Sure brings back memories

According to the Superman Comic Book; he has Super hypnotism where people see Clark as a frail older man. That’s why even without glasses he isn’t recognized.

He was the best superman ever.

Ah...there's a Superman in so many men: outwardly clumsy, shy, unappreciated, confused but inwardly made of steel; not able to bonk the girl we love. Sadly we are missing the X-ray vision. LOL

Rip John Hamilton George Reeves Jack Larson Noel Neill. Still with us as of 28/06/2019. Is Phyllis Coates last surviving member of the original cast. Good clean entertainment from 1952 until 1958.
