George Reeves Superman was a real life American hero and I will always remember him as such. Kids genuinely looked up to him. Hearing the theme music always meant another great adventure. A real blessing!
George Reeves is the most physical actor to ever play Superman. Where later actors to play the role rely on special effects and CGI, Reeves' stunts were, at times, astonishing. He would pick up and toss grown men, in Mystery in Wax he jumped down a full flight of stairs, he was an amateur boxer so his punches were thrown with an athletic authority. Even simple tasks like bounding up stairs three at a time or hopping over a picket fence gave his character force and to this day makes the show worthwhile
I was born in 1959. I used to watch the reruns of Superman without fail. Such a tragedy that he died the way he did... and the mystery that surrounded that event.

George Reeves is my all time Superman
The best superman ever. Only one is more super, Jesus!
George Reeves had a small part of the beginning of the movie Gone with the Wind, he was a very handsome man and had a nice speaking voice.

He also had a small part in From Here To Eternity
My favorite show was a child. I watch reruns of it for what seemed like forever.
The kids I hung around with back then would joke around with the "look, up in the sky" intro. It went like this. One of us would point up and say, "Look, up in the sky. It's a bird, it's a plane" and then start wiping our face with a handkerchief saying, "eew, it's a bird."

Yeah that one was older than the hills.
WOW, THANKS ! I WAS SO MOVED BY THIS AS A KID...Superman is still SUPREME !
I loved watching them in the 1970s when independent TV stations were broadcasting show like this for scheduling fill ins. Amazing how back in the 1950s to 1970s era there was 2 to 4 stations that shut down at night that had better conrent than hundreds of stations running 24/7. "And as always" Thank you for the great content.
Noel and Phyllis were both great!!!!!

Agreed
I watched Superman a a kid in Australia.
I was born in 1963, and only watched a few episodes of Superman as a child. I had no idea about his death. That is so surprising and sad.
That was one of my heroes growing up
Fact: George Reeves played Superman in an episode of I Love Lucy entitled, "Lucy and Superman."

Fact: George Reeves appeared as Superman in episode-"Lucy and Superman " it's season Six the same season that saw Barbara Eden in the episode entitled "Country Club Dance" both episodes are definitely worth a look...!
I saw this show back in the 70's in the afternoon after getting home from school
I grew up watching the adventures of Superman. I remember running through the house with a bath towel pinned around my neck. George Reeves had a whole history before Superman that was pretty interesting. There are a couple of KZread videos that cover him before the Superman role.
I figured that Superman would eat Wheaties! Thanks for the video, loved those old Superman shows!
When I was 6 years old I did not need an official Superman Cape. I took one my little sister's clean white diapers and with a ball point pen carefully drew a letter S on it. Tied it around my neck and proceeded to stand near my open second story window. There I thought about jumping out of it and trying to fly. After some careful thought I decided not try it until I would complete some "Test Flights" jumping from one piece of furniture to another in my living room. After numerous tests I realized that I could not fly so I stopped wearing my sister's diaper and gave up the idea of flying!!!! Lol!!!!🤣🤣🤣
I remember, as a 6-year-old kid, seeing season 1, episode 1, on, according to IMDB, 9/19/1952. I'm not sure if I noticed it on that date or not but in the many subsequent viewings I have become rather fascinated by the picture in Perry White's office as shown starting at 5:25. It is rather a grim picture of, perhaps, industrial might. It stirred some kind of feeling in me in the 1950s and it still does.
This was before my time but I bought the DVD set- love the first two seasons black and white , more than the color episodes. Also like the first Lois Lane better , I thought she was better looking than the 2nd one and much more independent and stoic looking, loved her character. R.I.P George Reeves- He is the most memorable one America will remember as Superman 👍
This great show is 6 out of my top 10 tv dramas.
The only superman I knew growing up in the 1950's was Mr George Reeves, he's the only one I Remember being superman and nobody else, R.I P. GEORGE REEVES, AND JOHN HAMILTON AKA PERRY WHITE, PHYLLIS COATS, AKA LOIS LANE, NOELL NEIL AKA LOIS LANE, JACK LARSON, AKA JIMMY OLSEN, AND ROBERT SHAYNE, AKA INSPECTOR HENDERSON, MAY THEY ALL R.I P. AMEN. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
One month from today, it's "Up, up and away!" for Superman: The Silver Age Omnibus, Vol. 1! Hallelujah!! 😃✌👍😊✌👍😃✌👍😊✌👍😃✌👍😊✌👍

At 7:40 - The actor seen with Noel Neil is Kirk Alyn, not George Reeves. I met (on seperate occasions) Phyllis Coates, Noel Neil, and Jack Larson. They all had nothing but nice things to say about George Reeves.
At 7:42, that’s Kirk Alyn from the Superman serial. It’s not George Reeves.
I liked the Phyllis Coates version of Lois Lane more than Noel Neill's version. Phyllis was more like the Lois Lane we came to know in the comic book and especially in the movies and TV shows of Superman from the 90's to today. Noel's version was more that 'damsel in distress in need of rescuing' that was more common of female characters of that 50's era.

great vid bud your content is always mesmerizing!
Didn't know Kellogg's did a Corn Flakes cereal box with George Reeves on the box. Wow, do you know how much that box would be worth today to a collector? $$$$$
I always thought as a boy that during the opening theme song, that it was Robert Shayne's voice who yells out "Look up in the sky" Then I could swear it was George Reeves voice saying "It's a bird!" then for the female voice I always thought it was Phyllis Coates who said, "It's a plane!". Everyone thought I was crazy, but listen to the voices and think in your mind, Shayne, Reeves, Coates and you will slowly say, wow! It's possible cause it sure sounds like them. And the show was made on such a small budget, why couldn't the actors do those voices?😮
We watched this in reruns in the 70s, and it was one of my favorite shows. I probably never missed. I had no idea that later filming was in color. That's interesting. To me, that version of Superman was the only one. I never saw any of the Superman movies, and never cared to.
I was born in 1946😊
@7:41 That's actually Kirk Allyn with Noell Neil...

I think I have heard it referred to as suspension of disbelief!
I watched the reruns in the 60's, when I got a little older and found out he was dead, it broke my heart ❤️
Watched Superman in the 60`s and always wondered why Superman would take gun bullets to the super S but would duck from the gun being thrown at him from the bad guy. I turned 62 this year and to this day I often wonder why he would duck. LOL
Why he passed is known.... Toni Mannix, his companion, confessed to her Catholic priest on her death bed that she personally hired and paid for a hit on George... She had acted for years like she owned him and stood in the way of his career. H e met someone elso, left Toni and she had him killed... I know this because I had occasion to have a conversation with the man who had been her caregiver for several years, and was there to hear her make her final confession.
At 7:55 there is a photo of George Reeves real Mom, Helen Lescher.
What episode did clark kent call his boss on car phone back in the 50
Reeves wanted to quit after the second season, not the third.
The Adventures of Lois and Clark in the 1990s
Something about George Reeves as Superman, he's always been such a special character to me since my early childhood! R.I.P. Mr. George Reeves, Sir, whatever really happened to you on that last night of your life and to the other cast members, mostly all gone or far into their nineties.
What is the Superman music
7:58 George Reeves' mother. . .
Tell me, what was that first guy in the crowd expecting when he shouted, "It's a bird!!" Did he figure everyone would reply, "Yes! It IS a bird!" What if they turned to him and said... "So what? You never seen a bird before?" When the second one says, "It's a plane!" ...now there is some controversy, and the crowd realizes that they don't know what it is. But that first guy... I wonder about him. IT'S A BIRD!! Oooh... a bird, huh?
Why is this word for word from a video by "LandumC goes there" from 2 years before this video came out? Totally different narrators but word for word the same. Very strange.
Men like me have this programme to blame for our huge balls and the protection of women and kids as 1 of our primary rules
Dean Cain was Superman in the 1990s on tv.
See George reeves superman
Why didn't anyone realize that Superman was Clark Kent without glasses? In the early comic books one of Superman's powers was the ability to change his facial features in order to pass for anyone he needed to impersonate. One other thing was that originally he wasn't capable of flying, he was only "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!"

It was Fleischer Studios that suggested that Superman would Fly instead of Leap because it would be Easier to Animate. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Show some superman clips
I have read that Phyllis left the show because after the first episodes were filmed in 1951, there was still no assurance that they would ever hit the air because of the absence of a sponsor. It was not until Kelloggs bought the show that the first season aired in 1953. Apparently Phyllis did not want to take the chance that there would not be a second season.
Don't you think why i you think you're indestructible ?

Very sad, and ironic. Reminds me of Christopher Reeve's tragic accident, which left him a quadriplegic. He couldn't even pretend to be Superman anymore.

Phyllis Coates.
Unfortunately , George Reeves passed away June 16 , 1959 !!!!!! Mystery Gunshot Wound To His Head !!! 64 years ago .....
How magnificent that first year was, with Phyllis Coates! She left the series because the first 26 episodes sat on the shelf for over a year, before Kellogg’s sponsored it. With no “Superman” renewal in sight, she filmed a comedy pilot, which unfortunately did not sell. George Reeves was killed in a fight with his drunken girlfriend, Leonore Lemmon. She literally got away with murder! She spent the rest of her life in New York, drinking herself into a daily stupor! The suicide theory is utter crap!
