….Same here. A kid on a bike whom I never saw before, drove up and told me he was dead. I thought he was joking. At dinner later, my parents were discussing it at the table. Was all the talk on the playground. When I was very small, I tried to get my dad into taking me to Metropolis to see Superman. He thought that hilarious….

Many had a problem of learning of the news, because Superman wasn't supposed to die. The only problem was that it wasn't Kryptonite that killed Superman but a bullet from a gun. Certainly Lex Luthor wasn't involved.

I'm a firm believer that he was murdered. His career was on the upswing, he was looking forward to directing episodes of Superman. His murder was covered up. Waiting 30 minutes before calling the police was more than enough time to cover up any traces of murder. But we'll never know all of the details. He death, like Marilyn Monroe's will always be shrouded in mystery.

In the early 60's I grew up watching Superman. He brought both characters to life. That's the roles of Superman and Clark Kent. Just like the deaths of JFK, Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison, and Bruce Lee we'll never know the truth about George Reeves death. It was spectacular the way Superman took off running and jumped in the air in order to fly. He certainly looks like the true man of steel. He paved the way for other actors to play the roles of other Superheroes whether DC or Marvel.

I always got a giggle out of my Daddy's new patients. They go to get their eyes examined by the doc and low and behold, the doc could be George Reeve's twin brother (original hair color, not red LOL). They were both about the same age, except we were Indiana to Reeve's Iowa. My daddy died in 1974, so I only had 17 years with him. I just looked at the one pic I have of him recently, taken during ww2, then today I came across this video. Makes me cry, I miss him so. Wish they could have met during their short lifetimes ...

Unless someone was there, in the house that night, subjective feelings are quite insignificant. The forensic evidence would indicate a shot from a direction not capable of self infliction. The time of police notification was also very suspect, with the house having been full of "party revelers ".He was documented as having a stalker(s), with a simply sick motive of, do bullets really bounce off him. Finally, domestic violence, even among celebrities, has no bounds. RIP George 'Superman 'Reeves 🌹

Jack Larson was convinced until the end of his life that he committed suicide. The police raised suspicion from the start just by closing the case so quickly. We learned from the George Floyd murder how medical examiners can bend the truth. I’m betting it happened a lot back then in high profile homicides. To this day the rumors and stories persist. We may never know what really happened.

The suicide due to career frustration theory is similar to Western actor Pete Duel, of Alias Smith and Jones, who took his life around New Years 1972 at 32. Talented, successful, with a good contract to do the show, but depressed at being stuck doing TV being a serious actor who felt he was cut out for more.

@@tomtransport Actually, that's not correct. There is something called lucid dreaming and Dreamwalking. There's all kinds of info on it out there. I've done it, my wife did it almost every night for years with a long time friend, friends have done it and one wrote a book about it. My deceased brother came to my wife with a message for me and she described, unprompted, the outfit I'd said after his calling hours he'd rather have been buried in. This was six years before I met her and only my parents and myself were in the room. She picked him out in a photo array in that same outfit. I'd never said anything to her until I asked a couple days later what he was wearing and she described the same clothes. That's when I told her about my observation nine years earlier. She picked out his voice without seeing anything but feet in a home video and it was the first time in over 11 years I'd heard his voice. She only knew him via Dreamwalking because we met six years after he died and I'd never shared details she told me about him.

Yes. At the inception of Superman, he could not fly. That's why "leap tall buildings" was used, and it stuck even after flying became a power. But when introduced in the comics in 1938, he could only leap - an eighth of a mile. It wasn't until the Fleisher Studios short film that he could fly because that was easier for them to portray than leaping.

Producers get these issues all wrong. To reject an actor because they are universally popular in one role is a testament to their skill as an actor; not a reason to say they shouldn't take on any other character. Elizabeth Taylor, for instance, was tremendously popular in 'Cleopatra' yet no one said she couldn't do, '...Virginia Woolf' because she was so good as Cleopatra. It doesn't make any sense. It just proves that good actors have a wide range of skills. This all added to the depressing story of a man totally trapped by 'type, or character-casting'. George was not an old man; he had possibly decades of successful acting, in other parts, in front of him but 'Superman'; and crazy producers, drove him into increased alcohol intake and deep depression. I believe Mr Reeves took his own life at a weak, intoxicated moment where he must have been convinced that that his entire career was over. When acting is all you can do that must be a crushing realisation. Jack Larson, (Jimmy Olsen in 'Superman') said, several years ago, he decided to walk away from acting because he didn't want to end up in the same place that George did. A Casting Director hired Jack for a film by a big time Hollywood producer. When that producer discovered Jack Larson had been hired, he had a face-to face with Jack and told him he just couldn't be in his movie because, "You are Jimmy Olsen...". By the way, the terrible 'robot narration' in this video is almost as tragic as Reeves's death; it's the worst fake voice-over I've ever heard. The memory of George Reeves deserved much better treatment than that. Also, after reading the comments on this video, I'm convinced that so many people, with ordinary Anglo-Saxon names, which indicate English is their first language; have no clue how to write understandable sentences and have the spelling skills of young children. This, I've noticed, is widespread over KZread and social media. It makes one wonder if the teaching of correct English has suddenly ceased to exist. In any case, George Reeves, despite international popularity, had a terrible professional career and I've always felt extremely sorry for a good man and a great actor who suffered terribly through absolutely no fault of his own. RIP George; you were way too good for early American TV which used up actors and spit them out. Bill H. (Retired film and TV critic/reviewer).

I watched "Superman" from its pilot episode in 1952 at age 6 & was immediately 'hooked'! George Reeves was a professional actor, who I believe, played to both children & adults equally! Unfortunately, his Superman character overshadowed his ability to get other parts & consumed the last vestiges of his youth! Aging fast, gaining weight, with thinning , graying hair, he may have sought a fast way out of his downward spiral, by taking his own life! R.I.P.!

You Need to Get your Facts right, along with getting rid of the Robot Narration. The Night of the party/shooting began on JUNE 15th/16th, 1959 NOT JULY, like is mentioned in the video. The party started before Midnight on June 15th and then the shooting and George's death was ruled in early morning aprox. 2 a.m. on the June 16th, 1959. Also video Mispronounces George Reeves name from his adopted father, it's was George Bessolo NOT Basolo. Very Poor Production here.

George was killed...by his lifestyle. The casting couch. The drinking. The open relationships. Studio cover ups in concert with the police and the coroner. But he was movie star material and a product of the times . You could tell in the first and second seasons with the adult film noir themes.

One of the Adventures of Superman episodes I still remember was when Superman took 2 or 3 evil crooks to the top of a tall snowcapped mountain peak and left them there to meet their fate. Their only way out was to climb down, but it was too steep. They remained at the top, horrified and screaming in fear that they were going to die. I don't remember much else about the episode. I was pretty young at the time.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall them falling as they tried to climb down. Gotta wonder why Superman would leave his costume in the closet. Seems to me he's always wearing it under his Clark Kent suit. Wouldn't help to wash it with the laundry. It's indestructible. Good thing he wears his underwear on the outside of his suit. 👍

There are so many factors that contribute to a person’s self image. If it was a suicide, one can only wonder what mixture of emotions created such volatility in Reeves that he would take his own life. Ostensibly, he was on the path to greater fame with Superman, but if he had begun to privately detest the role because of the entrapment, is it possible that greater Superman fame meant a further descent into a private hell? I was just 4 years old when he died, and I wasn’t aware of the crime drama so much, but I loved watching the show. Oh yeah. Even as a very young kid I watched it. My dad never missed an episode, and I can remember him saying how sad he was that George Reeves was gone.
