Adventure Ocean Quest - Special Episode: Discovering Another World | Ocean Documentary
Watch 'Adventure Ocean Quest - Episode 1' here: • Adventure Ocean Quest:...
As much as 71% of Earth’s surface is covered by water, representing one of the last great frontiers on this planet. We literally have only scratched the surface of what lies beneath the waves. And even of the species we have found, we know relatively little.
Perhaps the greatest challenge we face in exploring the oceans is to get close enough to marine life to observe undisturbed natural behaviour. This could allow newinsights into life in the oceans, but it is a tall order given the noise disturbance and clouds of bubbles emitted by most diving equipment.
So some scientists have now turned to freediver Frederic Buyle: they want to exploit his noiseless and calm method of diving to approach even shy animals and find explanations to some of the mysteries of marine life. His abilities are remarkable: he can descend to depths exceeding 50 metres and stay there for up to 4 minutes on a single breath.
Responding to calls for help from researchers, Frederic has teamed up with the renowned underwater cameraman Christian Petron. Christian’s vast experience includes working on Luc Besson’s cult-film “The Big Blue” and “Atlantis”, but Frederic’s attempts to freedive with predators like great white sharks test even Christian’s impressive skills.
In each episode, Frederic and Christian work closely with leading scientists trying to find answers to the mysteries of our oceans. To accomplish their task they also turn to locals who know the waters and their wildlife like the back of their hand. Local knowledge can prove invaluable in this game, perhaps even save his life.
Adventure Ocean Quest combines science, nature and adventure in a way that is enthralling and captivating, yet informative. Frederic’s extraordinary abilities and experiences wow the viewer, while his close teamwork with renowned scientists gives unprecedented insights into the secrets of life in the oceans. This series allows the audience a window into the very real challenges of accessing and studying underwater life. It is a stunning aquatic spectacle and a rollercoaster ride of discovery and personal experiences that keeps viewers glued to their seats.

I can't help feeling in deference to the people who engaged in the production of this singular undersea doc. such as cameramen, audio men inclusive of the effective background music, keen editors, a brilliant script writer, a convincing narrator, etc. In particular, those photographers & 3 outstanding free divers certainly deserve a pat on the back for a job exceptionally well done, cause they had to spend day & night w/ an infinite patience to procure the incredible momentous footages one after another in the face of some perilous conditions. The transmitter installed & close-up photos must be the immeasurable contributions to marine scientists. For laymen like us, it is ineffably educational & informative. Thanks to this doc., I've gained upgraded & new insight in the life & behavior of those undersea creatures. My heartfelt sincere gratitude to all of them,,,,,(05/27/23)

It's the danger and adrenaline dump associated with it that is addictive. Any skydiver, free climber, or bank robber will tell you that.
These documentaries are so perfect that I will never understand how could anyone hit a thumbs down for this!!!
I just LOVE this program! It is so peaceful to watch! Great information! I really enjoy how the "free divers" interact so peacefully with the creatures in their habitats so as not to scare them. I especially enjoyed the watching the whales and the part on the sharks and shark nursery. My cousin does both scuba diving and snorkeling in Hawaii. He runs his own boat too. One thing I admire about him is his philosophy that "he is taking people to visit the creature's homes" and to be careful about disturbing their homes. He has even come face to face with White, Lemon, Hammer Heads and the feared Mako Shark during his dives. He has NEVER had a problem, never been attacked, never had to harm a creature either in self defense. He is just THAT careful with himself and those he takes into the underwater environment. Watching this program, is excellent. I wish all divers and other tourists had such respect for the oceans and it's creatures. If they did, we would not hear of "shark attacks" and ruined coral reefs and such things. Thank you for bringing me to the ocean. It is my favorite place, use to go their all the time before I became disabled. NOW my lap top, or notebook PC is my window to the world, as I watch from my hospital bed and crochet scarves for the homeless! God bless YOU! A grateful fan in Oregon!

I once scuba dived the Great Barrier Reef, living on a dive boat off Queensland Australia and diving for 5 days straight, including night dives with flashlights, as well as a feeding frenzy where I sat underneath a bunch of sharks (mostly black-tip reef sharks and Tigers I believe) eating away right above me with no cage between myself and them. It was after that moment where my fear of sharks pretty much completely subsided. Amazing animals for sure. I swam right up to one's face (not during the frenzy, and I think it was just a black-tip reef shark) and took a photo.

Marine biology has been my dream since I was 4 (as my dad has told me) and I plan to move to honduras when my son get his college and career choice going (he's 15 now so soon) and I always wanted to dive. This actually completely changed my mind. I no longer want to dive with tanks but to train my breathing. I was on swim team for 2/3 years and got kicked off for not attending meets and for holding my breath too long. I don't need to come up for air when swimming like most do, and this is what i needed to see to justify my lung span. Thank you so much, I plan on training my lungs to make it 3 min now and eventually to 6/7 hopefully. Wow what a beautiful video, I idolize you.

All the 3 free-divers are truly SUPER-HUMANS ; At 12:05, Fred went down into the undersea tunnel while his colleague, Will, was filming him without oxygen tank, namely they were holding breath up to 5 long min.. This is the consequence of the extreme physical training & self-control to overcome the breathing reflex. At 39:16, they described that there are 6 different sharks : 1) lemon sharks 2) tiger sharks 3) grey reef sharks 4) hammerhead sharks 5) river tip sharks & 6) the great white sharks.
