Thanks for the know how. I have been fixin tah, think about, get started working on, getting up the gumption to swap my SR5 cluster in to my 86 IFS DLX for only about seven years now. LOL. I didn't even think to check if the SR5 cluster is for a 6 pot. Mine has a 22RE.

I have a 99 camry 4cyl and I swapped in a es300 v6 tach. I bought a dakota digital sgi-100bt but the higher the revs the further off it gets

I’m doing this modification right now and I’m measuring the resistance of the potentiometer inside. I started with a 6cyl tach that was set to 51k ohms. Does anyone know the resistance required for the 4cyl version? I ask because I’m not able to find a reliable control tachometer.

I have a 84 sr5 with the tac and it is stuck and 3k any recommendations on how to get it to back to working?

I wonder if that will make my tach work it dont after installing the msd 6al ignition box

I’m trying to do this calibration without the help of a reference tachometer. Does anyone know the resistant measurement across the potentiometer for the four-cylinder application? It should be around 30-55 kohms.

Saw where you left a similar comment on this video about a year ago. You ever make any progress with this? I've got an '87 22RE 4Runner, and I just received an '89 V6 cluster like the one in this vid from an eBay seller that listed it as being for the 22RE. Got concerned when I saw the paint pen writing on the bottom side saying "89 4Runner V6", took the lens off, and sure enough it does say 6 cylinder on the top of the tachometer face. Would be neat to calibrate it on the work bench to a known resistance setting for the potentiometer, but I think my ignition timing light might output an RPM if I had to do it through iteration.

@@cbh148 I ended up buying a reference tachometer to get the time just right. I wasted too much time trying via the electrical resistance measurement technique. I recommend buying the cheapest tach you can find and just use it for reference only as you tune your V6 Toyota gage cluster for the 22RE.

Will this work on a 2nd Gen? Please god, I hope! Although my tach is for a 3L Diesel and I'm putting in a V8 Petrol. Not sure if it matters.

90-95 years? yes, it's been done recently actually. diesel to gas though I'm not 100% sure.

Well that's just epic! Never heard about it before and I'm doing a full restoration. Never seen it mentioned when tach inaccuracy comes up on forums etc. Proper game changer, IMHO. Will let you know. Probably in a year, seeing how long I'm taking. Ha!

Nice! But yup, it recently was done to a 1993 pickup, switching dash from v6 to 4cyl, and the 10k ohm resistor was added too cuz it is 3RZ swapped. The resistor how-to will go up at some point, not really in a huge rush there.
