Adidas SOLAR BOOST 3 REVIEW - First Impressions - Best Daily Trainer Of 2021?? | FOD Runner

Adidas SOLAR BOOST 3 REVIEW - First Impressions - Best Daily Trainer Of 2021?? - welcome back to another running shoe review and today I am giving you my first impressions of the adidas solar boost 3. Released in January 2021, I have realised I can get my hands on Adidas' boost range as they do indeed go up to my shoe size so was very keen to try this shoe out considering ive heard such great reports of previous versions. Today I go through the technical overview of the adidas solar boost 3 and my first impressions of the shoe after an 8 mile moderate run.
Let me know in the comments below if you have tried the latest model? or a previous model and what your experiences are with the adidas solar boost line up!

    Never alot of hype around the Solarboost, so good to see you review it. Seems like a solid shoe for adding up the mileage. From experience with Adidas I can tell that this thing is going to be very durable. The Continental rubber and Boost just keep going on forever.

    Great video Andy! I have got the Solarboost 19 and they are over 500 miles. I purchased the Solarboost 3 when they were released and I returned them back due the weight (heavier than previous version). Instead I bought Asics Cumulus 22 (50 grams lighter per shoe) as daily training on my rotatrion. Thank you for the xmiles discount by the way. Keep running and sharing your experience!

    Thank you for the honest review! I have the 1st version of Solar Boost and love it. It is so soft and comfortable under foot. In fact, I would prefer this boost midsole foam more than the EVA foam from Hoka Clifton 7. The drawkbacks which points directly to its weight is hot during summer runs; however, it works perfectly during winter. I like this shoes on all of my recovery runs.

  • @boti2305
    @boti23053 жыл бұрын

    It is heavy, good for easy days, agreed. Though it's a great update from its predecessor due to the energy rails as it adds rather a topsole rail of eva that gives more snappy feeling and stable ride. My experience with Boost is that its best comes when combined with EVA as the Bostons but without the current lightstrike which is a bummer. Adidas shoes are heavy but stable and durable and that is also beneficial in the long run to prevent injuries. I am quite happy with this update, was about time.

    It's refreshing to see someone review a Solar shoe Andy! I'm not surprised by your thoughts though, these Adi shoes are built like absolute tanks, heavy but I think it would be reasonable to expect 600 miles+ of comfort at least, they're built to last in a way no other shoes really are. On the toes, was it wet? I've found all Adidas shoes brutal on the toebox and socks, some Bostons rubbed a big toe hole on my brand new Stance socks a couple of weeks ago and Adidas shoes definitely rub a lot more when it's wet. I had some old Tempo 9s that made my toes bleed too, it's quite a while ago but I think they had the plastic bit too, but they were just too small for me as well. Sorry, no suggestions on how to avoid that, other than try to make sure it's dry!

    adidas has had Torsion system in their shoes for 35 years. Of course they look different now than back then but I had already two of those original adidas Torsion shoes in the Mid 80s. They introduced three models back then. The green one for neutral runners, the blue one for overpronators and the red one for supinators. I had both the neutral and overpronator versions. You are right that the purpose of the Torsion bar was to add stability but it was not because of the soft midsole. In fact, the Boost was introduced 2015 which means 30 years after they invented the Torsion bar.

    i just bought the same adidas solar boost 3 , similar to the one in the video (color blue) .regardless of being a neutral shoe , i was confident that is also overpronating shoe, because i'm more confortable in those kind of shoes : nike structure , asics GT-2000 ,unfortunetly ,i had tibial periostitis , and some heel problems after the first walks ,and that made me a little bit disappointed . should i keep walking with that shoe ? should i run with it ? is it really an overpronating running shoe ?

    if you want a breathable upper, then the Ultraboost PB is an option. I don't know whether they offer that version this year for 21 but last year they did. I bought that shoe betweeen Xmas and New Year when adidas had a sale on their website and in my opinion that shoe solves some problems that a regular Ultraboost has. First of all taking out the extra weight (According to Thomas from Believe in the Run UB 20 366g, UB PB 321g in US 10.5. My UB PB pair in US 9 is 306g) and secondly making the upper thin and breathable. That shoe has a lot of volume inside which forced me to go down half size but I have enjoyed that shoe. It's an amazing gym shoe because it looks great and expensive. It's also very comfortable for easy and recovery paces. Therefore one tip is to wait and see whether they launch the UB 21 PB or something similar for summer season. Runners should probably not purchase the regular UB 21 for running. It's more a lifestyle oriented shoe and then the weight is not an issue.

    Ah interesting! Sounds a bit like my own Nike Invincible videos - OK but rather heavy (Invincible 380g, Solar Boost 399g I heard you say), not one to reach for fast days and mystery blisters! I had to buy some "Skin-on-Skin" blister protection tabs before setting off again! It does sound fairly similar to the adidas Supernova Glide 8 I used a lot few years ago before they sort of morphed into these. I know we keep harking on about lack of adidas shoes in a 13 but whereas, for me, their 12.5 is typically a fraction short of ideal sounds like the 13.5 in this might fit well for length as recall my feet are a few mm less (30.2 cm). According to their size chart my "ideal" size is the UK 13 they don't really do in anything apart from some of their "concept" 4D shoes which look stupidly heavy. That said I do tend to prefer a full thumb width these days up top whereas 0.5 now does not feel overly comfortable.

  • @TheFODRunner

    @TheFODRunner

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah perhaps blisters are required! I should think a 13.5 would give you a full thumb width yes, which would probably be more comfortable..... they’re fine walking around for me but clearly not in the wet or going up and over hills! Sadly, another heavy one....

    Nice review, I feel for you on the shoe size whilst I know the pain. I'm a 14.5 in a running shoe & it's a pain to buy a nice comfortable pair. You can imagine the weight on them too. A lot of them don't offer the models in my size. I currently run in the Solar Boost 19 which do feel okay although a little firm. I like Adidas as a brand but feel they become a little disappointing. Would like a pair of UB21 if I can get them in my size or I will have to just go with the SB3. I'm also looking for a nice cushioned pair for long distance, HM to the full marathon. Why not using heavy shoes in long runs?

    Because at the moment if I was doing easy long runs it would be fine but I’m doing long run workouts with marsthon efforts in then and steady efforts.... the 8 miles I did steady in these was long enough at that pace!

    In my opinion Solar Boost has zero hype. adidas is putting all effort into the Ultraboost. When the original Solar Boost came out they invested heavily in the launch because they introduced the whole new Solar lineup with three models of which the Solar Boost was the most premium one. I was invited to test the shoe that day when it was globally launched. It was a fine daily trainer and looked good in the Dolphins colorway. It even sort of became popular and slower runners wore it for marathons. However, the problem of the shoe was the neoprene upper that was quite warm in summer. After that adidas hasn't invested in marketing of the Solar lineup at all. Those shoes just show up in stores every spring and runners who prefer adidas shows buy them but they aren't hyped and don't sell extremely well. Ultraboost is more expensive but it outsells these models by a huge margin in most stores just because it's hyped and advertised.

    Yeah I can totally understand that, there was no hype around this launch at all, it just “appeared” on the website without any marketing. I’ve seen lots of people get really excited about older pairs so thought I would give this one a go 👌

    @@TheFODRunner I think that shoe is a very good daily trainer for beginners who want to run a sub 4h marathon for example. They can do everything in that shoe because the bottleneck is condition, not speed when one starts running. They need cushioning, durability and some stability. This one provides that. Even the price is not an issue when one starts running because with low mileage, one needs just one pair of shoes per year.

    I think Adidas has lost touch with the shoe development. The Adidas-shoes are too technical - typical for German (over-)engineering.
