Adidas Most Misunderstood Shoe - Boston 10

Спорт

The Boston 10 wasn't the shoe we were hoping for. But that doesn't mean it's a bad shoe. I think we're all just using it wrong. But even when you're using the Boston 10 to it's strengths, it still leaves so many questions. In this video, I'll talk about how I think the Boston is best used, talk about what the Boston faithful should be running instead of the 10, and then discuss some training and racing pairings that I think make sense in the current Adidas lineup (Adios Pro 2, Boston 10, Adios 6, SL20, and Takumi Sen)

I love my Boston 10s. They are keeping my feet fresh after long runs with the firm ride and high stack height. The misunderstanding as many have stated is due to the naming. My rotation now is the pro 2 for marathons, the Boston 10 for distance, and the adios 6 with speed work and 5K racing. Edit: I look forward to your Takumi Sen review. Maybe I’ll get a pair for 10K to half racing.

I’ve found the Boston 10 gets better after I broke 50 miles in it. I used it for my 18 mile long run yesterday and it was brilliant, found it saved my legs and got me up on my toes with no effort. Personally I don’t mind a heavier shoe, think mine weight around 340g in my UK 10.5 but I can feel it on my foot. I will use the Adios Pro 2 for my next marathon, the Boston does a good job of replicating the ride and foot strike of the Pro 2 but in just a firmer package, but if you get on your toes you can feel the bounce of the LS pro. Again this is personal preference. I have three pairs of Endorphin Speeds 2x v1 and 1 v2). I ran 17 in the v2 last week and I can honestly say I much prefer the ride and actual comfort of the Boston 10 over the Endophin speed (never thought I’d say that as I love the endorphins). I’m just glad one of the big shoe tubers has revisited the Boston and put some perspective on how the shoe is when it’s been properly used and tested rather than just doing a few miles in it then moving on to the next one, great video, Kofuzi 👍🏻🇬🇧

I feel the other issue with the Boston is that, yes, it’s firm. But it requires a lot of mileage to break it in. It does loosen up and get softer. As soft as the Adios Pro 2? No. More like Nike React softer. That being said, it’s a shoe that can handle daily training, speed workouts, and dare I say it… the marathon distance in ONE shoe, which would explain why it’s incredibly robust and probably over engineered. In fact, I went for a run yesterday in my Boston 10’s and have always been surprised with how fresh my legs and feet feel afterward. I have a love/hate relationship with the shoe. I want to complain about its firmness, but I feel so good after a run or workout in them.

My winter shoe this year for snow/wet or just plain cold runs is the Solarglide 4 GTX. I was using the Solarboost 3 in the fall, and it has probably the most comfortable upper of all my running shoes. My current favorite running shoe however is the Terrex Speed Ultra. It’s basically a Boston 8 trail shoe.

Just hit 100 miles on my Boston 10's. They are my favorite daily trainers. It's snug, it's supportive and the high stack saves me legs. It's also not a "slow" shoe. I agree, with some of the comments here - it takes a few miles for them to break in. It's good to see that there is a wide version now, as the upper was a bit constrictive at first, especially considering it's meant to be a shoe for longer runs.

I've been using the Boston 10s, Adios 6s and Adizero Pros (not the marathon racing shoe but the more "traditional" flat). I've found that I like: - Boston for easy runs at the top end of easy paces. Any slower and its not as soft and cushioned as I want for a recovery shoe, any faster or longer and I want less shoe. - Adios 6 for long runs, faster steady runs, longer tempos/thresholds. There's just less shoe and a bit more responsiveness than the Boston. - Adizero pro for any workouts and track stuff. I enjoy all 3 and do like the Boston - the runs I'm doing in the Adios 6 I used to do in Boston 8s/9s so I do understand why people are dissapointed in the Boston however.

I owned the Boston 6,7,8(ran Chicago marathon in them) and 9,but I was skeptical about the 10s giving all the negative feedback from those who wore previous versions. After buying them,I understood the negative reviews upon taking my first few steps(very firm midsole). But after peeling off some miles and picking up the pace, I started to like the shoe. The 6-8 are still my favorites, but I can enjoy this shoe, if I'm picking up the pace

I have been wearing Boston long before they even had Boost in them so since about 2010. For me with large feet (UK 13 ideally) it is usually about wanting a "daily trainer" that does not feel like a heavy brick as some can do in my size - e.g. Peg 37. Those pre Boston 10 versions and more recently Peg Turbos and Endorphin Speed ticked that same box for me. Sadly Boston 10 just does not for me. It is firm and best part of 100g heavier than the ones just mentioned in my size. Also annoying the largest UK 12.5 they do is a bit small for me anyway. So sadly a fail for me on basically everything. I can see however that it could "go" as I did try some faster miles in it. However I can say that about any shoe I have and don't like much. Perhaps also running hard in a shoe just takes your mind off how the shoe feels and back to how you feel.

I love the Boston 10 and I’m somewhat surprised by it. Before getting my hands on the shoes, most reviews I’ve come across are negative and I didn’t even consider it. At a steep discount, it was hard to pass over. However, a trend I’ve seen with reviews is people on the heavier side loves it. I’m 180 lbs and the Boston works great for me. I don’t use it as a speed shoe but daily trainer and I use the Boston 10 for those slow miles too and love it. Mind you, my go to is the Nike Invincible for slow days but I don’t find the Boston 10 firm at all but balanced. I’m surprised that carbon plate on the heel doesn’t bother me but I’m not a heel striker either. It seems the midsole soften up the more mileage I put on it. It’s also the ultimate treadmill shoe for me. Just a perfect midsole combination that is a delight. I also own the Adios 6 and while also a great shoe not a versatile shoe for me. I can’t run slower paces with the Adios 6 without it feeling too firm but great for faster paces. I agree, the Adios 6 is the new Boston or should be the what the Boston could have been. The Boston 10 to me is just a new running shoe from Adidas that seem to work well for people using it for faster workouts or runners on the heavier side. People mention the Boston 10 is firm but I feel like it got plenty of compression for me.

I think the 10s are more geared toward the bulkier runner. The consensus about them being heavy and boxy seem to be coming from lighter and much faster runners. After watching several reviews and hearing all the mixed opinions I was so intrigued that I bought a pair. Should be here soon and I will update. I think I would fall into the category of a "bulkier" runner because I also train upper body and am not by any means a 130lb distance runner. I do about 250 plus miles a month so I run quite a bit at average paces. 7:30 - 8:40/mile are my favorites. Anything other than that and it can become taxing to me. So I am very curious to see how I do in them.

Things i've noticed about this shoe since putting 200miles on it: - preferably faster paces. - break in is around 50miles on this shoe (as others on this thread have said before me) - the shoe does get quite hot, I may try and cut a few holes for ventilation in the top to help as after longer sessions in it, your feet get quite toasty in this shoe, most likely due to the thicker mesh on the shoes upper. - energy return is best during harder efforts. - slow runs in this shoe can be done but it's probably not the best shoe for longer slow efforts. Overall It's a great shoe IMO, so good I recentley got a second fresh pair of them on discount for my next marathon.

I've got the Adios 6 and yes, it makes a difference where your foot strikes. The A6 is much firmer in the heel due to the regular lightstrike, whereas the forefoot/midfoot area has a great mix of lightstrike and lightstrike pro, making it both more comfortable and explosive. Therefore, a heelstrike will feel harder than a midfoot/forefoot landing.

So, could you elaborate how the Boston 10s make you feel? I'm planning to buy those for my rotation.

You've mentioned this a number times on your LS, about how Adidas is confusing with their lineup and just throws a bunch of stuff out there to see what sticks. And lately how they've been shuffling their core lineup to be completely different from what they were in previous iterations (Adios, Boston), makes it even harder for a potential customer. I'm sure they aren't hurting for my business, but I feel like they're the one brand that actively pushes me away.

@Kofuzi visiting this older post again , as I need to comment as a heavier running (lost quite a bit of fat and muscle this last couple of years but I am still 194lbs and at 5'11'' still a little chunky.) The Boston 10 works for me well as a daily trainer (just got my second pair for under £100) a lot of the softer daily trainers (excluding the high stack monsters) are just two squishy and bottom out on my forefoot once I get about 10 , 11 miles at that point I may as well be in the Addios 6's or Altra Escalante's which are lighter and snappier on the feet than most dailies. Don't get me wrong, shoes like the Razor Max road 5 were a joy, super comfy, quick off the mark; however I did not even manage to get 200miles out of mine before I was on the midsole. I personally will not be paying £1 per mile in anything outside of a race day shoe (obviously depends on inflation) . Likely this will not be seen .. but for me, an athletic 50 something who still has a bit of meat on my body, it suits fine as a daily. (hated the Addistar, now that did feel like blocks of lead )

When the boston 11 came out i immediately took it using my discount voucher on adidas. Its just the same feel just a bit tad lighter on weighing scale that’s all but the ride and everything is the same. In my case i don’t feel the weight reduction cos of the upper, only my weighing scale felt it 😂

Does the boston 11 have heel slippage problem as the boston 10?

  • @benbrindle8165
    @benbrindle81652 жыл бұрын

The final eyelet was a little too far forward (checked against a bunch of other shoes) so I stopped the horrendous heel slip by punching in a new hole 6/7 mm rearward. I think it’s clever where it’s gone but just normal lightstrike in the SL20, adios 6 and b10 ruins the rear of the shoes. Like blocks of wood. It helps my shins but it was giving me dead feet from 11-18 km and I need to rest more with the new eyelet. It fixes the worst part of adidas shoes-split heel cup but has the second worste, lightstrike. But the laces were cinched so hard without the extra eyelet to stop the heel slip. I have started to like it, but I think the ASICS Glideride 1 is far superior and most similar feeling shoe. ASICS magic speed and the ZF3 better than adios 6. The Novablast better than the invincible and the ultraboost. I’m a fanboy of Nike and Adidas but ASICS is all over them at the moment :/

Ko I've been running with Adidas shoes for 5-6 years now, and these days I am bit disappointed with the brand. Since Adidas lightstrike came out in an iteration of Boston 8, the firm went into quick and bad changes in the Adizero lineup. The Boston 10, even though if you finally think it's a shoe for hard short efforts, it's still not living up the expectations. Personally, I think Lightstrike is bad, seems from other old time foams, boost combined with eva works well but the Solarboost it's heavy. They keep adding shoes like the Takumi sen 8, aesthetically cool, effective? The max cushion Adistar, SL 20 with all the weird changes in a couple of years... I agree Adios 6 is a good shoe, though I still think it's too firm as a do it all kind of shoe. in Conclusion, very upsetting bc new foams like Flytefoam blast or Profly make shoes protective lighter and fun! The new take of Adidas is Lightstrike? The pro version, it's unstable for daily training and they don't even care of making lighter shoes combining boost and eva's like the old Boston, Adios that worked really well for years. I changed to Hoka and Asics 🤷🏻‍♂️

lightstrike is much lighter and better for faster paces then boost. Adizero’s arr made for races/faster paces and these shoes are made for pro’s not especially for 20 min on 5k runners or even slower. TS8 and adios 6 for example are awesome for workouts or 5k/10k races and the adios pro for half and full marathon. I mean there is a reason why pro’s wearing adizero’s broke multiple road wr and won major races in the past couple of years. These shoes unfold their full potential at high paces.

At this point I just think that the Boston 10 is an experimental shoe from Adidas. And they fail. It doesn't work. But ok, like all experiment, sometimes you succeed, sometimes you don't. Even if it feels good for 5K efforts, the Adios 6 can also do that. So you can use adios 6 as training companion for both the adios pro 2 (long distance race) and the takumi sen 8 (short distance race). Some runners find the boston 10 is actually good for slower paces. easy runs etc. Well that's good! it's durable and can have a spot in the rotation. But then again.. I think part of the disappointment is... why do Adidas name it as a Boston? why do they broke such a good heritage series? I mean, if they create a new shoe lineup and call it.. I don't know.. the Adidas Adizero Chicago 1, for example, then maybe people will accept it with a more open mind: "Oh, it's a new lineup from Adidas, and it's good for easy runs, that's nice." But no. they chose to call it a Boston 10. That's just... no..
