I've posted this before: your running videos are unique and more interesting than the rest, although I do like a few other running shoe review channels. Your design pro perspective always really shines through. Having grown up in Germany playing soccer mostly in adidas soccer cleats, I'm a bit of a three stripe fanboy who is glad adidas is back on track with the adizero line (and yeah, I switched to running along the way, as so many do as they lead professional lives. ) From a broader perspective, I'm even more delighted competition has produced so many good running shoes from different brands that I do buy as well, of course.😅 Running has become so much fun - would never have imagined this in my soccer days😂.

I appreciate the kind words and support. It’s interesting how our backgrounds form our perspective on things. Also, running is a gift… it’s something that some people realize and jump into to at some point in their lives. It’s great you finally did. Being a gear nerd running has the right amount of gear, where it’s not overwhelming (cost or amount) yet it’s deeply technical and impactful. So many things to be interested in in this space. Yes, it’s here are many great shoes out there in running right now… but three stripes is one of the most interesting as of late. I’m glad to see it too. 🤙🏻

Great history lesson. Love it. One thing to add: There were actuelly two different versions of the 8. The first 8 was non-Lightrike/Boost mix while just a few months later - still called 8 - we got Lightstrike/Boost mix for the first time in a Boston. And yes - that was even confirmed by adidas at some point - the Adizero Pro (spring 2020) was kind of developed in a rush to follow up with Nike and even the first Adios Pro (Summer 2020) was called a "rush" by adidas but turned out already much better than the Adizero Pro. PS: Love my Boston 8 & 9, multiple versions of Adios with the 8 as a highlight. I don't dislike the SL20 and SL20.2 for speedwork and the .2 even for long runs.

Ya, I didn’t get into the EVA change on the 8. Lightstrike, on that shoe, was just the standard EVA Adidas was using for a while. The rebrand was always odd to me. I have a video on the Adios Pro development, which I’ve added a link to the description of this video. I enjoyed the SL20… never tried the follow-ups though. The “SL” line is long and storied for Adidas as well. Someday maybe I’ll tell that story.

@@SagasuRunning I ran in most adizero shoes of the past 10 years (except Boston 10-12 and adizero SL which is a useless shoe to me cause why would you want the adizero SL when you can have the Adios 8). I am still enjoying the Adios 1 (and might run a marathon if I have to this year). Yes, the Adizero Pro is firm and nothing special but it works for speed work no problem and I love the fit and the upper (very similar than the Adios 1). I think still the best upper of the Adios Pros (I hate the 3 BTW).

The Boston is also my favourite shoe, particularly the 5 & 6. I did everything in them, long runs, intervals, track, 10k and half marathon racing, my teammate did too. They were so comfortable that I'd keep wearing them for a few hours after the race, like they'd been custom-made for my foot. Still can't believe what they've done to it, but luckily I've still got a pair of 9's! 😊

Boston 10 for me, brothers, wife and her friends sisters.. What a shoe, the weight helped strengthen my legs and improve 5k, 10k times by lots of minutes.. Have 20+ good trainers and the Boston 10 is my favorite, the wild horse, work it, and it’s a bond, though I understand if ya coming from a super soft foam it will take getting used too.. Great video 🙏🏻❤️

Great video and great history review of Bostons. I really love the Bostons in time, I entered to Marathon training with them and I still love Boston 6. With the B10 I have a strange feeling because I hated it with every run but I put a lot of miles in it 😂 so at the end I started to like it

That sounds like a type of “Stockholm syndrome” with the Boston 10… hahaha. As I said, it if was called the “Adizero trainer” I’d would have been fine and entirely forgettable… but calling it a Boston was a no-go.

I had the 7s that I loved and tried the 10s which I hated…till about 40 miles. The upper is trash and it’s heavy, but I found once the lightstrike “loosens up” it’s a decently supportive shoe. I love the 12s and I’m on my second pair. They feel completely different than the 10s in that they feel “fast” are easy to lock into a steady tempo effort. Also, kudos to adidas for their flash sales. I was able to pick up my current pair for $90 USD.

LSP does benefit from a break in period. It does get better the more you run in it. But nothing helped the Boston 10… though there were many that claimed it “got good” after 100 miles… The Boston 12 is a very VEEY good shoe… but it’s not perfect.

geez this video speaks to my soul. i'm the guy in the group chat who still takes the design of the boston 10 as a personal attack (ha!) i loved the boston 6, 7, 8, 9 and knew as soon as i saw pre-release photos of boston 10 that the dream was over. some were saying the adio 6 was the 'real' boston 10, but i think it missed the mark there. the adios 6 was slappy and dead; it lacked firm, tight bounce as the older bostons. like you, i like the boston 12 and hope adi are back on track (i also like the adios 8 and adios pro 3; not a fan of takumi sen 8.)

The Adios was always the Adios… like I pointed out the Adizero Pro could have been more Boston… and I remember a lot of chatter back than that it was… Im glad there is another obsessed Boston fan out there who took the 10/11 personally. I’m not alone! 🤙🏻

Awesome video! Boston 8's were one of my first "real" runningshoe pairs (still use them occasionally for one of the better snow traction and also usable on light trails). Boston 10 felt very weird and different on my foot so didn't bother after quick try on... But I feel some similarities between Boston 8 and Adios 6, that has been really good impulse buy. I ran my first HM distance run in Boston 8 and my fastest HM distance in Adios 6.

I ran in the Boston series from 5-9 then switched to the Adios 6 because of the departure from the Boston identity in the 10. I later bought the Boston 11 for $50 to use as a treadmill shoe, but could only take it to 190 miles before I decided enough was enough. The version 11 felt like a brick underfoot. Versions 8 & 9 were my absolute favorite and saw a guy running a race last weekend in the 8s. I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn’t imagining it. I’ve since been using the Adios 8 as my daily trainer to bring back similar feelings I had with the Boston 8 & 9s. This was a nice video down memory lane and appreciate your enthusiasm in the delivery for the history of the Boston.

The 8 & 9 were very special for sure. Adidas shoes aren’t they popular here in Taiwan… but I do see Boston 9s often (once a week at least). There was even a special edition Boston 9 for the Taipei marathon that I have seen a few times that is extra special here. I love the Adios 8, but it’s very much an Adios… not a Boston. Great shoe though.

Completely agree. Nothing will ever replace the original Boston 8 & 9, but the Adios 8 is the closest I’ve found since the 9. I actually just got rid of my Boston 5s a few years ago in a donation pile after running a Rugged Maniac (5K obstacle course) race with my dad and brother.

I don’t really “save” shoes. I do have a little archive of a few though and I do wish I had a Boston 5 and 9 in it. 9s are still around but 5s are long gone.

Nice job. I've been wondering if it's safe to come back and try an Adidas Boston again. To me the old Boost material is a lot like Saucony's PWRUN PB, but the Saucony Speed put together the plate and rocker better than what Adidas was doing with the Boost.

Part of what made the Boston so good was the traditional geometry… the Boston 12 is very good, the rocker is aggressive but works… it’s a different ride but on par with 2023/24. The B12 will be a much firmer ride over anything Saucony is doing. Both ride and LSP feel.

You should be a documentary narrator...smooth and well researched...by the way you are like the 5th person on youtube who has mentioned the Boston 9...that shoe must have been magical lol

Ha… I’m not at the level…but I’m using the resources I have and telling the stories how I can. The Boston 9 was magical. Truly. This gets thrown a lot in running shoes… but the B9 was really that special. What made it even better was the entire Boston line, since the beginning was magical (up that point) and really set a high standard for training shoes.

I run in an Adizero SL. Nice to hear the history.

The Adizero SL is a great shoe. It has a much longer history for Adidas, much before Adizero even. It’s on I might tell someday. The Adizero SL 2 looks to be a fantastic upgrade this year as well. I’ll be covering that shoe quite a bit.

I must say, your videos are unique. Simple and factual. Really enjoying them. I ran up to 30km in my Adizero SL's and my feet were tired LOL. Is that my own leg weakness and lack of strength getting exposed OR are the SL's not meant for that distance really? I know its a tempo shoe, but just wondering. @@ZaahirJappie The SL is a basic trainer… the Lightstrike 2.0 EVA is very firm. It’s a good shoe but mostly for shorter runs… 10-15k or so… anymore I think they intended for the Boston to take over. The SL 2 looks to be a little more broad in its use case. We shall see. I’m a big fan of the SL series. I’m looking forward to the SL 2 greatly. Also… I’m not 100% the Adizero SL is directly from the SL20 I mentioned. The SL series goes further back for Adidas. It’s something I need to spend sometime with. Eventually will meme a video about the SL series history. Thank you for the kind words. Glad my content is enjoyable. 🤙🏻

I've heard other people say that the SL is the successor of the SL20.....buuut im not sure. Yes, it has a very firm ride and is felt beyond 15kms mostly. I liked your video about the Ghost Max. I normally buy my shoes well after the reslease date, so shoes like the Deviate Nitro 2 and Novablast 3 were shoes that I couldnt find here locally when the time came to buy. I went from an 880v10 to a 1080 v11 and then this SL. Thats my running shoes history LOL. I look forward to yr SL series video. @@SagasuRunning

Great video! Very enjoy your skillful storytellling. This reminds me how excited I was when I acquired and ran in the takumi sen 3(it was design by Hitoshi Mimura(三村仁司). Still can't forget the feel of (relatively) bouncy boost at forefoot. One of the best racing flat that time. So I was very disappointed when the bulky Takumi sen 8 was released. I also felt the name of takumi shall be change/removed although it is still a speedy shoe. I tried the Takumi sen 8 and though ""this is too squishy and so tall, feel very unsecure and unstable, not like the old takumi at all!" But(There is always a 'but') I've bought my second pair of Takumi 8 and very enjoyed them. However, I still missed the ground-contacing feel and I only can find it in adios 8 or Asics Tarther RP3 now. Having said that, I am looking for my next daily training shoes and looking forward to your review of Boston 12.

The name “Takumi Sen” definitely carries some weight with it. I discussed that in the second video on this channel. I know why Adidas leveraged that name for the 8/9… but it was hard… especially for those who ran in the classic Takumi Sens. The Boston had the weight in the West though, since Takumi Rens/Sens were rare outside of Japan and parts of Asia (they were very popular here in Taiwan). So the change to the Boston hit harder… I do want to get more into the Takumi Sen history… but I never ran in them. So it would be all second hand. Maybe someday I can get access to the Adidas archives and really do it right… there are so many details I want to learn and tell.

Thanks for the history lesson, so nostalgic too! I like the B12 for long runs as it keeps my legs fresher than my Novablast 3 and maintains faster pace easier too. Isn’t the latest Adios iterations (Adios 8) where the Boston left with version 9? That’s my impression.

The Adios 8 is a racing flat as the Adios has always been, just with modern materials and a great upper. When I run in it I get the occasional Boston 9 vibe… but overall they are not the same. The Adios 8 is very much, an Adios.

This is a great video for someone who has only recently started running and doesn't know the history of such shoe silhouettes. My first real running shoe was the Boston 10 and, as much as people seemed to dislike it, I really got on well with the shoe and am now nearing 500 miles in it. I have just bought the Boston 12 and so will retire the 10 at 500 miles. But the 12 already feels like a huge improvement so I'm excited to make it my daily trainer.

Coming from way back in the 80s, actually 70s, I remember the original Bostons and their SL series. Always rotated a Nike, ASICS, and adidas trainer - especially loved the Oregon and Atlanta. What a phenomenal history here - thx much for this. I have been reluctant to try the latest Boston, basically cause they did, in fact, massacre my beloved 9! But, hey, if you’ve digressed from your Peg 40, I’m game. Just may give it a shot, after your upcoming review. Also, REALLY looking forward to the new SL.

I’m really looking forward to the SL 2 and the new Adios this year… 2024 could be 2012, or earlier. Yes, Adidas did have all those city trainers. That’s a different story that goes back into the 1970s. I’ll cover that one someday.

I tried the 10/11 but never ran in them much because they were terrible, so I dont have the long history with the Boston that many do. That being said I do like the 12 and feel like it accomplishes the goals they intended to. Racing shoes are the flats of the early 2000s, their shoes like the Vaporfly or Adios Pro in this case and to have a trainer for those shoes they need to at least give some of the same. I love the Pro 3, its by far my favorite racing shoe and the Boston 12 to me is just a baby Pro 3, so for me its excellent. I do have some issues with it but in general I think they accomplished the goal of making a trainer for the Adios Pro. Excellent video as always

Agree. The B12 hits the mark as training companion to Adidas race shoes. It also is able to stand out on its own as well.

Once mine got broken in around 30K they are like a different shoe than out of the box, so comfortable. They are the best shoe I have ever owned for running down hills with speed. Not my go to for top speed in a race or tempo training but can handle anything else. Somehow I have adapted to the horrible laces, too long, too slippery, hard to get flat and a good lockdown, but that would be the only thing I hope they change in the 13. Let me ask you a question please that you may cover in this video while I am watching. When adidas calls their foam Lightstike Pro in 2023 and say they come out with a new shoe in 2024 that use the same foam lightstike Pro is the foam exactly the same or can they reformulate it and just use the same name without the 2.0 designation?

Adidas laces have been horrible for years… but 2023 saw the worst ones, across the entire line. Ugh. For the most part LSP has been LSP… it’s been the same TPee foam… at least since the original Adios Pro (which I remember the foam feeling more dense)…. Definitely the same since the Adios Pro 2. However, this may been changing in 2024. With the new Lightstrike Pro Evo foam (the PEBA version from the Evo 1) and whatever they do with the new Adios Pro 4 (or 5)… we shall see. Lightstrike on the other hand… is just EVA… Lightstrike 2.0 is a different formula, softer and less dense which seems to differ in durometer more to my feet.

Great content thank you. I’ve always run in nike and the Boston 12 my first adidas has won me over i love them for my marathon training. Can only justify owning one shoe at a time so need one that can do it all and thats the Boston 12 for me

It’s a good choice for that… but though I can’t subscribe to training 100% in a plated shoe. Still, it is hard to find something the B12 doesn’t do well. In my review I’m going to go into use cases on the B12… quite a bit.

If you had some brand new Adizero Pros - would you still run in them (and what type of runs) or would they be regulated to gym shoes?

I’d likely not run in them, they are part of history now and given how quickly the shoe was retired there are not many NOS out there…. And I’d definitely not use them as gym shoes (they would be awards for this, way too stiff).

I don’t remember the last time Adidas did Ekiden colorways… but one of the big reasons I finally grabbed the B12 is this colorway. The entire ‘24 Ekiden colorway set is beautiful, the the B12 is outstanding.

This was awesome. The shoe most similar now to the boston 9 is the terrex speed ultra. Essentially a boston 9 with 2.5 mm lugs. It has the same lightstrike/ boost set up. Low stack, and nimble.

If you are going there… trail shoes…. The Nnormal Kjerag is the closest to the Boston 5-9 I’ve run in since the Boston 9. In fact it feels nearly identical to how I remember the Boston 5… I’d love to try those Terrex Speed Ultras… but we simply don’t have Terrex in Taiwan. Adidas doesn’t bother sending them here, even though trial running is big here. I’ll look for them in The States… though I know there is a big redesign coming this season for the entire line.

I had the Boston 6 to 9 and the Boston 8 (blue-gold colorway) is still my all time favourite shoe! I believe they should just have called the Adios 6 Boston 10 instead. It was quite close to the previous Bostons

The Adios 6 was a VERY different shoe (and not that great, but better than the Boston 10). Plus the Adios line is far more important to Adidas than the Boston. It makes more sense that they changed the Boston so much and have left the Adios a proper racing flat.

This level of shoe geekerry(is this even a word?) is unparalleled in the whole youtube universe😂😂😂 I enjoyed it so thoroughly that I watched it three consecutive times. Adidas should send you at least a complementary pair of Takumi 10 or better yet an Evo 1 or a pre-release of the "forbidden red shoes"

@@SagasuRunning the adios 8 is TTS for me perfect fit but the boston 12 is long for me on TTS so I went half size down. I normally size 8.5 US in all nike running but boston 12 is different have you notice it it’s longer?

That was a nice trip down memory lane. I didn't have any of the "vintage" Bostons but checking back I had 3 of the 2 (always wondered was there a "modern" Boston 1 ?), 8 of the 3, 1 of 4 (it was rubbish!), 9 of the 5 but the then largest UK 12.5/US 13 started feeling too short so started petering out and had 2 of the 6, 1 of 7 (way way too small), missed the 8 and, largely for nostaglia, one of the 9 even if really too small. The 10 was still only up to UK 12.5 and yeah I hated it. The 11 finally came with my now TTS UK 13.5/US 14 and perhaps for that reason alone I actually got it to 100 miles and that upper you hated actually worked well for my narrow foot. So not a total disaster. The 12 came along and yeah lost some weight over the 10/11 but I can't say I have ever had a truly entirely enjoyable run in them despite getting near 100 miles. In my size still felt like a brick and was giving away say 50g to a Speed for seemingly similar use case of being a "lightweight" (except it is not) do it all trainer which the Boston always was. Back then I only needed Adios and spikes for sessions and races. Only raced in the Boston once and remains my PW 10K :) So of the "old" ones the 3 and then 5 were my favourites. In hindsight they would have been better if even was 0.5 size longer. I can't believe now that I ran for so many years in shoes too short for me - largely as liked the Adios & Boston so much and at the time Nike were just as bad as they are with no viable lightweight do it all trainer. We live in hope for the Peg Turbo 4.

I couldn’t find a definite answer on the Adizero Boston 2/Adizero Boston name. All the packaging (shoe boxes) and spec materials I found on the first Adizero Boston are labeled “2”, though some promotional and marketing left off the “2”. So either there was a model before it that no one remembers (or was a development version) or Adidas was counting all the Bostons prior as “1” and “2” was the rebirth of the series. Someday I’d like to find a definite answer. The Boston 5 was a special one… There are some good lightweight trainer sou there still… but nothing like the old Bostons. I’m not sure a classic Boston really makes sense anymore. Something I’ll be getting into in the next video.

From memory I walked into the Sweatshop in Teddington (one of the UK's best known stores - well when going to one was a thing!) looking for something to try instead of the Nike Zoom Elite which recall by then had either stopped and/or had got rubbish. Seemingly this was 2012 when I started with Strava and started tracking shoe mileage. So I kind of assumed there was a version before the one I picked up in 2012. What year did you think the "modern" Boston appeared ?

@TimGrose 2010 release. Though development started in late 2008 as I can tell. So there may have been a dev version in 2009 that Adidas considered 1… 1 & 2 models for Adidas seem to get muddled often. It’s happened before and since.

@@SagasuRunning 2010 makes sense. I recall feeling I had got an "established" shoe in 2012 but back then a shoe was a shoe which I kind of hoped "fitted" and was reasonably nice to run in. No real KZread or Social Media of course then to put you off before even trying. Lot has changed in 12 years!

@@TimGrose Back then there were a handful of running shoe (mostly barefoot and trail) blogs I read as well as Reddit. But it was a different media world to what we have now, definitely.

PS the Adizero Pro was a shoe back in Covid in 2020 when I started doing more KZread vids and was a bit of a hype shoe. When got it, felt adidas had thought where is a carbon plate, where is a shoe - let's put them into one and try to give the impression Nike had not caught us completely asleep at the wheel. Adios Pro 1 was nearly as hard to get at retail than the Evo 1. I eventually bought one from a viewer who decided not for them. Good to try them but again not in my TTS and felt bit like a rushed out prototype but certainly felt that they are on the way "properly" then.

The Adizero was 100% a “look Nike, we have a carbon plated shoe too” shoe… which makes me think it was meant for something else prior to the plate. It was a total hype shoe. I remember the KZreadrs trying to say nice things about it at first… The Adios Pro 1 was definitely rough around the edges… but it was probably the first good non-Nike super shoe… that they have refined very well. Someday I hope to get access to the Adidas archives and tell the full story of the Adios Pro “skink works” team (also seemingly responsible for the Evo 1).

@@SagasuRunning like most adidas shoes two or more years ago, the Adizero Pro might have been less "bad" if actually fitted me. Remember them arriving and went straight out and did a 20 something 5K "round the block" but recall thinking well this is no Vaporfly but, like any shoe, if you "try" then the stopwatch might look OK. Another time I remember trying for a shortish Strava CR and they "worked" in that I got it. I did one long run in it (half marathon or so) and was "OK" but it was a nice summer evening in an era when just literally being able to go "somewhere" was nice. Don't think I wore them again after that.

@@TimGrose I still remember how beat up I felt when I took the Adizero Pros out for a NYRR Virtual 5k (one of my qualifying races for my NYC marathon entry). I was going for a PR and went out hard. By the end of the 5k my feet felt broken and it took days for my legs to not be sore. I didn’t get the PR… but about a week later I Nair casually went out to “run fast” in Vaporflys and set a 5k PR… I vividly remover these two runs. I also remember thinking “If I could somehow flex or break the plate in the Adizero Pro… they might be better.”… I loved the way they looked and really wanted them to be an updated Boston… my training log had all sorts of notes around that from that period.

Everything you ever wanted to know about the Adidas Adizero Boston but were afraid to ask. 😅

I retire them from running to lawn mowing shoes or everyday casual wear, as long as they have some life left in them.

I do this too… but never with a Boston… those always got running the ground… and the B12 is far too stiff to be any good as a casual shoe.

I Got the adizero Pro. They really ain’t good :)

They really… really aren’t. Good thing they didn’t stick around long back then…

Boston 10 sucks butt. It would have been my first Boston then I tried it on…. 😂. Too firm. Too bulky. So rigid. If the Boston 12 is on a deep discount, I will most likely pick it up.

They are VERY much not the same shoe. The B12 is worth a try if you like LSP and the firmer feel of Adizero shoes.
