    Glad it was helpful! I dont know why they dont fit them as standard to be honest. (I decided to fit one when I reversed into a car that had silently pulled up behind me.)

    Thanks for this real installation. Finally, someone actually installed this thing from A to Z on a caravan and showed that it is working. Not a fake pretend to install advertisement like others. 👍

    glad it was useful :) make sure to get a digital one. The cheap analog ones are sketchy at best.

    I had the same issue with my adapter (7 to 13 pin). Mine was for the tail lights/brake lights. Easy fix like yours, just swapped them over. Goes to show that some things are not correct out of the box. When I did my camera I ran the wire along underneath on the framework. Slightly different but got the same results

    Yes, its a strange one. When you find a commercial thing with a fault your first thought it that you have it wrong yourself.....it takes a while to convince yourself that its them.."once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable must be the truth" :) I thought about running the wire underneath but wanted to make sure it stayed dry over its lifetime and also I didn't want to crawl about underneath :) However its a perfectly reasonable approach.

    Great video Rob. I'm thinking of doing this but I wondered how effective the signal was with the aerial mounted on the rear wall? I have a bathroom door tht's closed when in transit so not sure how that might reduce the signal?

    Hi, so I found the good quality digital one was fine. The cheap analog one I had in my old caravan did not do the job and kept cutting out (even when mounted on the front wall). Mine is mounted as in the video up behind a wardrobe door and the signal is fine during transit. As long as the door isn't made of metal then you should be ok. Mount the antenna high up so there is a metal free line of sight in through the back window of the car. If in doubt, blue tack the transmitter in place and power it from a 12v battery then see if you can get the signal in the car....(the camera can just be inside the caravan for this test so no holes get drilled till you are sure). Not sure the transmitter will be watertight if fitting in a bathroom though!

    excellent video full of great info but can I ask what are your thoughts after using this for a few months is the image stable on motorways

    Hi John, yes Ive been using it a while now and its great. The image is stable on motorways yes. The only thing I would change is the camera focus. It shows things close up really well (which is just what you want when you are reversing) but whilst out driving cars start to look small once they drop back a bit. If you can see them clearly then they are too close! :)

    the shipping length of our Bailey Pageant is around 7mtrs + 2mtrs in car to monitor ,If I remove number plate and drill through it brings me into wardrobe,I am thinking of putting transmitter in the wardrobe which is in bathroom. This would mean signal would have to pass through the wardrobe door and bathroom door when travelling, would you think this would be pushing it for signal to get to monitor.

    I think you should be ok as long as the door is not made of metal. My caravan is not far off that length. The best thing is to place the transmitter in the caravan without drilling any holes, power it from a small 12v battery (or down a long wire), connect up the car and see if you get a good picture. If so then drill the holes and fit it.

    Hi Love the small Parkside hot air gun. I can’t find anywhere that sells it. Can you tell me where you bought it? Regards Tony

    Hi, got mine as a Christmas gift from my father-in-law. However, there is a kit on Amazon that looks similar. Do a search on 'LEXIVON Butane Soldering Iron Multi-Purpose Kit'.

    great video, could you not connect the wires behind the numberplate light?

  • @howtodostuffchannel

    @howtodostuffchannel

    You can take the power from wherever you like as long as it's always on when the car is plugged in (Im not sure that the nubmberplate light is on when the lights are off?). I went for internal power because that's one less hole to make in the caravan, plus any connectors you use outside will be more prone to corrosion in the longer term.

    Could it be possible to connect the + & - wires to a running / side light at the rear of the caravan?

  • @howtodostuffchannel

    Yes. You can take the power from anywhere you like. Whatever is easily accessible. Not from any internal lights though because they get switched off when you tow (in most cases). I tried not to take power from any exterior wires because then you have to make your joint watertight which is not so easy if you want it to last years...
