    What I would do is to cut a piece of softwood to approx the right size and glue it into the hole with wood glue. When its dry cut off any excess and then fill the gaps with car body filler (I use Isopon but others are available)

    Just to say neither the RAC or AA will attend a caravan to change a wheel, As only the tow vehicle is covered for such a problem, if the tow vehicle can't be fixed then they will recover both, If just the caravan they will just tell you to phone a mobile tire company.

    Is it possible to have a central heating system that doesn’t have a central heating valve or pump in the system? It is a condensing boiler with a water cylinder. We can’t find the valve or pump anywhere, about to start to pull up the floor boards!!!

  • @howtodostuffchannel
    @howtodostuffchannel3 ай бұрын

    Combi boilers have the pump built in (and you don't need a valve). Otherwise the pump and valve are usually together with the hot water tank (in my limited experience). My advice would be to get a corgi registered person to come and tell you what's going on with it.

    😮😮Paint from a new towball or rust from one that has been used for an old trailer will put a shine of deposits on the hitch pads, that causes it to squeal and affects the damper action. Also if you are not going to be caravaning for a while smear a thin film of vasailine on the shining ball and use a different protective cap. Remember to CLEAN the ball thoroughly before you hitch up again. Mark it so that you know which is which without sticking yours finger inside 😮. See internet on how to remove and clean the pads. Ha ha it’s me again I’ve got the same Fire as you the Mrs liked it because it looked nice. I hate the damn thing don’t like the slam shot door situation. Also my top baffle plate that hangs on 2M8 bolts coming down from the roof of the fire have worn out, cannot get the rest of the stud out. Have you had any problem like that?

  • @howtodostuffchannel
    @howtodostuffchannel5 ай бұрын

    Yes, it's a terrible stove. We got rid of ours and got a different one. Slamming the door to shut it was a pain, and caused it to drift backwards because the fitter never bolted it to the floor. I think they discontinued it. Mine had spurs that came out of the side for the baffle plate to sit on. They seized and I had to cut them off with a mini grinder and replace with new.

    Hi, just come across your videos, you obviously are a fellow Caravan, but with a wealth of knowledge about all sorts of things. Quick question I’ve got an Adria Caravan and it’s got a set of sliding doors to separate living room to bedroom nice but heavy they’ve screwed the rail to the roof of the caravan with no wood behind it only the insulation i.e. polystyrene I would imagine screws are falling out what product would you say I could squeeze in to the holes and then re-put my screw in or any other ideas would appreciate thank you

  • @howtodostuffchannel
    @howtodostuffchannel5 ай бұрын

    That's an interesting one. I would try the old 'match' trick first. Push matchsticks into the hole (enough so they are held in place) then cut them off flush and put the screw into that. It works on door hinges so it may work in this case. Next you could maybe try some isopon car body filler. You would need to drill a pilot hole when it's set. It might crack though as you tighten the screw. Gorilla glue might be a last resort. It foams so you put it in the hole push the screw in and the glue foams around it.....would be pretty permanent though if it didn't work well.

    Our concealed Victorian mixer has gradually started running cold. How do I know if hot water is coming from the boiler before I look at other reasons?

  • @howtodostuffchannel
    @howtodostuffchannel6 ай бұрын

    First step feel the tank. Is it hot? Next are there any other taps/showers on the same circuit? Do they work? Next step depends on your particular shower. On mine you can turn off the water at the shower with some small shut off screws. Then you remove the cartridge and turn the water back on. You should be able to get the water flowing out from where the cartridge was into the bath/shower tray. Its more difficult if you don't have those shut off screws. You can turn off the water at the hot tank and the main cold feed, then remove the cart and switch the hot back on. Again water should flow out. I think the victorian style have a central tap. You have to remove the handle and the cover to gain access to a circlip that secures the cartridge in place. I would not recommend removing the cartridge with full mains pressure behind it. (that might turn it into a projectile).

    It's possible (and O rings are cheap so worth a try). Otherwise it's possible that it's the actual cartridge. You can test by putting it in hot and cold water and see if it moves. Cartridges are not that expensive (although it depends on the type of shower (usually around £20-30 pounds UK)

    They're actually only meant to be used on icy snow conditions and in such situations the spikes really grip quite well but if used on bare roads the studs have a tendency to crack the tyre after a while and also puncture your tube inside if you don't have some guard tape fitted.

  • @howtodostuffchannel
    @howtodostuffchannel7 ай бұрын

    I would concur with that statement. They are great on soft mud and also when the mud is frozen. On road they make quite a bit of noise and take a bit more pedalling. Ive not had a stud break through yet, they seem to just fall off after a while (this is my second winter on them and Ive lost about 1/3 of the spikes all together with the remainder rounded off). Id definitely buy a non studded version if I could find one!

Also after a month the inner tube slipped out on the side of the wheels both on anterior and posterior wheel. I tried to mount them again but there was no way to get the tube inside the rim, maybe they got damaged. For me it was a waste of time and money. There are some handy tips here. Just to help with a few extra. Before any change of a wheel make sure you are in a safe as possible position if possible drive slowly to a safe location even if you think it may ruin the tyre, keep safe it’s just a tyre. Always jack on a secure surface and as flat as possible. A good practice as routine maintenance is to remove each wheel nut ( one at a time ) this works for cars too, and place copper grease or other lubricant on your nuts or bolts and replace therefore when or if the time comes you know you can undo your wheel nuts. Personally I use a power bar with correct socket rather than a wheel nut spider tool ( the 4 way tool). Which jack ? yes I agree a bottle jack is a good option with plenty of capacity over what you need BUT ! , I do agree with others getting one under the chassis with a tyre down can be impossible. The solution could be use a ramp or pull it onto a piece of wood, I have a levelling air bag that does the trick. I haven’t got the alco bracket and jack but they are designed for the job ! and personally I’m disappointed that these brackets are not fitted from the factory but I suppose it’s cost and a few extra kilograms. Good safety advice on here about not putting your head underneath!! Just don’t do it without extra safety such as a stand or similar and why not put your stabilisers down , don’t reply on them but they are better than nothing if the caravan decides it’s coming off the jack, Caravans are especially unstable when jacked up .Bottle jacking can be a bit precarious and unstable, and yes I speak from a lot of experience plus having worked for the AA as a patrol. I always advise people to practice changing any wheel at home or in the storage yard first. OR just call the professionals from any of the breakdown organisations but keep safe whilst doing so. Good luck everyone.

  • @howtodostuffchannel
    @howtodostuffchannel9 ай бұрын

    Yes, can't fault any of that. I agree that its mad for manufacturers not to include the alco brackets.
