I added 4, 2 along either edge, by drilling into the bed. This keeps them out of the way when sliding larger objects in and out of the bed. It also gives you a larger tie span for things that are 4 feet or wider.

Thanks for the video. I first sprayed each bolt to be removed with penetrating oil. Before using the socket to hammer the washer off I took a pair of channel locks (any pliers with teeth should work) and held the bolt below the washer (where the raised retaining rings are) and used the T55 torx bit in a drill to spin the bolt while applying slight pressure with the pliers which ground down the raised retainer rings that hold the washer in place. It made getting the washer off easier.

I was able to find the exact tie down rings on the internet. Used a 1” galvanized end cap to get the washers off the bolts then installed 2 of the rings on the rear bolts. Thanks for the tip.

Well I gave it the old college try but there was no way I could undo these bolts. I don't have an air impact wrench like you so maybe that's the problem. I did find some other areas to put these D rings by using the existing bolts on the rails of my bed cover, so all was not lost.

This is going to help me a lot because I need to haul something very heavy from Connecticut back to the Ohio Valley in my 2010 Toyota Tacoma access cab I’m going to use wooden ramps and a 12 V electric winch to load it I’m going to try and mount the winch to the front via tiedowns either chain it up to The tiedowns or come over with a solid piece of steel from one bed bolt to the other and tie that down to the bed with holes drilled in it to fix the winch to,,,, thatidk???

Reid - the military tie downs you used stated they had a 1/2" hole for the bolt, but they are sold out without a re-stock date. The biggest, heaviest D rings I could find on Amzn had a 13/32 hole. Could you please tell me the width tolerance of the bolt on the Tacoma bed to see if I could use one of these 13/32" D rings? Thanks. And BTW - excellent vid!

I was thinking you could use an air die grinder and sand/grind the ID of the washer however if your tiedown base is substantial enough you may not need the washer,,,, maybe you could go with a slightly thinner washer so you can get more threads back into the frame I suppose that’s where these bolts screw it to???? You could take a few thousand off the original washers to make them slightly thinner if you had to I guess,,,, I want to get as much thread back into the frame from those bolts that I possibly can.
