I added 4, 2 along either edge, by drilling into the bed. This keeps them out of the way when sliding larger objects in and out of the bed. It also gives you a larger tie span for things that are 4 feet or wider.
Awesome video thank you for tie downs looking for years 2009 Tacoma.
Thank you so much for your instructions and parts list. I was able to add the tie downs to the front of my Tacoma bed following your video, and it was spot on perfect.

You’re welcome!
Thanks for the video. I first sprayed each bolt to be removed with penetrating oil. Before using the socket to hammer the washer off I took a pair of channel locks (any pliers with teeth should work) and held the bolt below the washer (where the raised retaining rings are) and used the T55 torx bit in a drill to spin the bolt while applying slight pressure with the pliers which ground down the raised retainer rings that hold the washer in place. It made getting the washer off easier.

Good tips for sure!
Awesome video! Very much needed for my 2005 Tacoma.
I was able to find the exact tie down rings on the internet. Used a 1” galvanized end cap to get the washers off the bolts then installed 2 of the rings on the rear bolts. Thanks for the tip.

You’re welcome. I love them. Use them all the time.
Cool easy idea! I very MUCH need tiedowns on my 2010 Dakota. Really like the idea of adding 4 on each side; super useful! Thx!
Hi there! Awesome tutorial. Do you know what the mil part number was for the original d rings you used. Thanks!
Only issue for me is those new D-rings are set in place and don't rotate like the factory ones do.
Thank you so much

Where did you find the D rings? Not seeing such heavy duty ones, also are they half inch bolts for the d ring bolt hole?
I thought about doing this for awhile now. My Taco is brand new so they should come right out without any issues.
@DIYReid

They weren’t too bad as it was.
Where do you get those military D rings?
Well I gave it the old college try but there was no way I could undo these bolts. I don't have an air impact wrench like you so maybe that's the problem. I did find some other areas to put these D rings by using the existing bolts on the rails of my bed cover, so all was not lost.
Just added mine 20 minutes ago! Thank you Have you had any issue with noise?

Like the tie down clanking around? Yeah I hear it on bumps. That was about it.
No more those tie downs are the linked website. I couldn't find the bigger screw hole tie downs now.
Weird they didn't do this to begin with
@DIYReid

Right?
Thanks for sharing how to do this. Can you add the link to the tie downs you used in the video? The link you provided is for a different tie down d loop that doesn’t loom as robust.

I’m going crazy looking for these exact ones also. The ones that come up on the link don’t have the hole for the bolts.
This is going to help me a lot because I need to haul something very heavy from Connecticut back to the Ohio Valley in my 2010 Toyota Tacoma access cab I’m going to use wooden ramps and a 12 V electric winch to load it I’m going to try and mount the winch to the front via tiedowns either chain it up to The tiedowns or come over with a solid piece of steel from one bed bolt to the other and tie that down to the bed with holes drilled in it to fix the winch to,,,, thatidk???
Reid - the military tie downs you used stated they had a 1/2" hole for the bolt, but they are sold out without a re-stock date. The biggest, heaviest D rings I could find on Amzn had a 13/32 hole. Could you please tell me the width tolerance of the bolt on the Tacoma bed to see if I could use one of these 13/32" D rings? Thanks. And BTW - excellent vid!
@CodyCSnell

Wondering the same thing, a year later. Did you ever buy the 13/32" on amazon?
Mfg. Standard should have been at least 2 additional factory tie downs near the cab, under the no brainer rule? Why hasnt Toyota made this $8 improvement. Appreciate your video

You would think but I never hear them.
You have the rings, but not the sleeve that allows it to ROTATE as with the two from the factory.
@DIYReid

These do not rotate.
thanks, but would be better to get proper tie downs so that they can swivel vs what you have that locks the ring down and won't allow swivel.

To each their own. I use the crap out of these.
I was all jazzed to do this, then realized I have a mat in my bed, and I'm not removing it. Why they didn't put tie down locations in the front like every other normal pickup, I'll never know. That's all I really need.

Or just drill a larger hole in the existing washer.
@william38022

I was thinking you could use an air die grinder and sand/grind the ID of the washer however if your tiedown base is substantial enough you may not need the washer,,,, maybe you could go with a slightly thinner washer so you can get more threads back into the frame I suppose that’s where these bolts screw it to???? You could take a few thousand off the original washers to make them slightly thinner if you had to I guess,,,, I want to get as much thread back into the frame from those bolts that I possibly can.
Too much work. The bed rail system is plenty strong.
