I bought this in 2018 for my 2010 GTI and I have not had any issues so far. Just leaving that out there incase someone was looking for a long term review. I highly recommend it over the stock radio! Great video! Edit: 2023 and the RCD330 is still going strong. I also now have it on my other Golf. Definitely worth it!

Nice mention about the Dynaudio! I have the headunit as well with dynaudio for the last couple months. One thing i did notice is a bit of sound quality loss. The EQ adjustments for bass feels like it's adjusting the lower mids from the dynaudio headunit. Aside from that and a few other quirks, it's a solid purchase.

This video is actually how I discovered the RCD330's existence, and after just freshly installing my own unit into my 2015 Beetle, I can say that it is extremely worth the price! As he said in the video, the installation was easy and all the functions from before like the steering wheel controls and AM/FM radio are maintained. Android Auto also works flawlessly for me with my Pixel 4 XL. For anyone wanting to modernize your older VW, I'd say this is the perfect way to do it without breaking the bank!

@@jusegozu The 2016+ model year Beetles utilize the MQB-style plugs for the radio, and all of them have MIB units in them, at least here in the States. I know the base models don't come with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto in all cases, but unfortunately the RCD330 would not be a simple plug & play with newer models and would require quite a bit of adapters and such. It probably would be best to buy a new MIB2 unit directly from VW if you want to keep the OEM look and functionality.

It really seems that easy, as it is assigning itself to the 56 Radio. In the case of the creator you will still get an error in the gateway (control unit 19) as it is missing the 37-Navigation. And if you want to have telephone showing up in your speedometer add the 77 control unit, just in case you didnt have one before. For all of you who want to keep your car clean of errors, remember you will need someone with a tool like VCDS to remove the 37 from your gateways intallation list if you previously had a navigation system installed. For those of you who still want a navigation system, the Discover Media PQ is your choise. Today it can be unlocked via software quite easy. With it you will get navigation, a radio, carplay, usb ... This unit can be either be installed as 37-Navigation, 56-Radio and 77-Telephone or you can just map it as 5F-Information Electrionics 1 (MIB2) if you updated your gateways software and hardware (7N0 907 530 B? , be carefull if you have or want to have assistence systems(55-Xenon Lights, 3C Lane Change, 13 ACC or A5-Camera)THEN YOU WILL NEED ONE WITH HW INDEX AN, SW can be flashed for these up to BR). If you have traffic sign recognition you will have to replace your camera as well (new Camera: 3Q0 980 654 (L)), bringing some new problems but also really nice features like adaptive steering to your PQ vehicle. If you want to have more details how, just ask me :)

I have no idea what you're saying at all. These numbers all sound like VCDS coding tips? There is no coding required with the RCD330 and no errors either. Does sound like you can bring back the mid-gauge cluster screen functionally which is cool.

@@shouldigetit If you mean the screen in the speedometer, when it is not showing any information of the radio there then must be a coding error in the RCD330. There should be an option in ODB11 or VCDS called "Messaging via Map" (At least in the Discover Media PQ it is called like this). This will activate the communication with the speedometer again and Radio and Music should show up. Even though there is no coding required for it to work, that does not mean your car doesn't throw any errors. You are not informed about every error in your car. In your case i am 99% shure, that your gateway (Unit 19) has the error "Control unit wrong coded" as it is missing the navigation system of your RNS3XX. Its not a critical error, but still it should be corrected by removing 37-Navigation from your installation List.

Really nice video. Couple of questions. Looking to upgrade my 2009 VW Tiguan that came with factory Premium 7, Dynaudio, Sirius and No backup camera. Hoping this is plug and play as you say. I am assuming I would just leave my Sirius cable disconnected and just use the Sirius App on my iPhone. Couple of questions for you. 1) Your section showing you use the steering wheel buttons - Can you use the "Phone Button" to answer calls from the steering wheel? I only saw you use the button for Siri and also adjust the volume. Do you have a backup camera? If not, do you get the message on the screen saying "No Camera" when you go into "Reverse"? 3) Call quality w/ the built-in mic - how is it? 4) At night, do the buttons illuminate Red? I hope so as my 2009 has the rid illumination vs the white. Lastly 5) Now that you have had the unit installed for over 1.5 years, how is everything working? Thanks very much. Once they are back in stock I will be ordering from your link in the desc.

What backup camera would work with this radio? Would the trunk latch camera work?

awesome, thanks for the video. i installed an rns-315 in my vw cc about a month ago, and am just not impressed with the nav function and the screen size. looking at your video, i'm definitely thinking of trying this one out. it looked like in your video the rcd-330 needed only the quad lock wire bundle from the old unit and not the green sat radio or blue gps antenna wire. did you leave those in or somehow get them out? i had to add a gps antenna wire with the rns-315 i installed and basically just stuck it in the dash well behind the unit. also, have you had any problems with the usb charging function?

if you live in a frigid winter area (canada, northern US, russia, etc).. the Desay model will sometimes reboot while the car is still cold.. nothing can really be done about this. and im not sure if this affects the noname brand, but i went with desay for the extra 512M+ of ram.. plus i dont have android 😜 so no need for Android auto

It looks like you had the RNS-315, I guess in your case with dynaudio. I have a GLI with the Fender. Did you lose the factory base unit? ...and did you lose any of the interface with your information screen in between the speedo and tac? thanks.

Thanks! The audio quality has been pretty good. Not sure honestly over the RCD 310, I got this for CarPlay more so than the audio quality. Not sure of the bluetooth version, sorry.

i have a isuse with this. I did have the RNS315 (Same headunit that was in this car before upgrade) And it's works but i cannot get radio stations Working. Do i have to connect the old cable's that doesn't go into the new unit in somewhere or what? 🤔

For my VW jetta 2015, the current unit has a button for Satellite Radio (Sirius). Do you know if you can use Satellite radio with the RCD 330? Or will I have to stream Sirius through my phone connected to the unit?

Hi Johnny I’m 99% certain you won’t run into any issues installing it in your Polo. I’d recommend searching Reddit or the VW forums online to see from a direct Polo owner but I’m pretty confident it’s the same radio hardware.

Not related to this video but I have A MK5 jetta looking to Retro fit Steering wheel AC control panel stereo system I know as possible but just how far does it go if you know

I really wish there was an upgrade path that was this easy with the mk7. I have a 2015 Golf, and the MIB1 radio is pretty meh. I'm currently putting all the bits together to upgrade to the MIB2 for Carplay plus all the extra goodies, but it's $$$. If you have a mk5/6/Beetle/Passat, this is a great upgrade!

Seriously! I almost bought a 15 GTI but then saw how much work it is to get to MIB2 and decided against it.

I bought this same headunit using the link, but I can't connect my Samsung Galaxy S20 using Mirrorlink. An app called "CarmodeStub" pops up but doesn't work, and then the unit tells me download Carmode on my phone. Has anyone else encountered this?

If you have a reverse camera, it’ll take more steps… not quite ‘plug ‘n play’, but it does work

I had this in my GTI and I tried modifying the Equaliser. After a couple of months my front speakers popped and stopped working. The rear ones are fine. People please bare in mind and leave the equaliser alone if possible!!

Should I Get It Reviews I know mate it’s a shame! It was loud but no where near loud enough to blow the speakers. It’s a MK6 GTI. I got new speakers fitted in and I’ve left the equaliser on normal and no problems so far!

Thank you Frank! In terms of the rear camera the unit does come with an adapter which lets you plug it into the back of the RCD330 and I’m assuming it turns on when you go into reverse so long as the camera is plugged in. My car doesn’t have a back up camera so I don’t know from first hand experience. There’s more info on the amazon page which is in the description. Thanks for watching!

I just bought the RCD360 and works perfect with fender audio. The rear OEM camera will not work as it is RGB and this radio only supports AV. I just bought the radio and the rear camera for 430usd in Amazon.

Will this still utilize my rear view camera on my CC that’s built into my emblem?

If my golf has the optical parking system but no apple car play, if I install this head unit will the OPS still work properly? Can anyone please respond thanks

Hey Juan, does the radio in your car integrate to any of the cars functionality like air conditioning or driving modes? If not I have a feeling the RCD330 might fit but I haven't been inside any of the new generation beetles so I'm not 100% confident. -Ben

It comes with an RCA adapter for the backup camera so you should be able to plug the camera directly into the back of the RCD330 with that adapter. Hope that helps Kyle, thanks for watching! It says on here amzn.to/2P9c4iD that is supports the rear view camera in the product description up top.

not integrating navigation into the head unit makes so much sense as it removes a lot of cost and licensing, plus everyone is just going to use their phone anyway. if you don’t use it from your phone then chances are you use a standalone satnav anyway. excited for mine to arrive so i can update my passat!

The stock bluetooth is different than the head unit's. The bluetooth module for the stock one is under the front passenger seat and can be just disconnected. Otherwise you'll have two devices trying to connect to your phone with the old one not being useful.

Can somebody help me??? I have a 2012 Passat TDI SEL Premium with Fender audio System and I just hooked up my unit this morning. Every function works great and Apple CarPlay flawlessly. The only thing is my rear speakers aren’t playing any music! Only my driver and passenger speakers up front are working. Also I’m an Airbag error in my car so I’m kind of stuck right now and I would hate to have to return this unit because I want Apple CarPlay. Also I have two cables left over I’m assuming one is for the built in Mac but I don’t know what the other is for and if it’s essential. And I have two cables left over is that normal? It was like a cable with a blue connector and a green connector

Hey Justin did you get this figured out? Sorry I just noticed the comment. I think the two cables left over is normal, I had at least one left over. I believe one was for the stock Navigation the previous unit had.

Does the head unit support the reverse camera in the vw badge? I have a mk6 and want to upgrade the head unit but also install the later model reverse camera hidden under the badge?

Hi, does anything need to be done to the infotainment system in the glove box for this installation? I have a MK7 VW Golf

Hi Bill, this will NOT work in a MK7 unfortunately. The infotainment system in there is wired differently and more integrated with the car (sport mode, air conditioning, etc)

Did you notice any changes at all in the Dynaudio quality? I have a 2011 w/ the Dynaudio system and I keep reading online that people have to use vcds to code it to work the same or not have butchered sound quality. It's also the only reason I'm hesitant to purchase.

Hey Nathan so I was also super hesitant to purchase because of that but I haven't noticed any sort of difference. I usually keep the EQ on "Pop" and it sounds A-okay to me.

I just installed this unit on my 2011 VW jetta i can only have the audio off or one level. turning the non doesn’t actually change the volume, any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hmmm try unplugging the battery negative terminal for a few minutes. If not then reinstall the unit and make sure all cables are snugly plugged in. Worst case remove the knob and reinstall it. If that doesn’t work the unit is faulty but I think one of the other solutions will work

Does the optical parking sensor still work with this unit

I know this is an old video but I've just bought a car with this exact model already installed and my battery is always dead, I've noticed the lights never shut off when car is turned off the buttons are always lit up red, VW polo 2011 is there a way of turning these lights off when the car is off?

I have a 2013 vw Jetta GLI, with the fender sound system is this compatible? I had a 2016 vw Tiguan but sadly it was totaled, I miss apple car play so much but love my Jetta!

Hey Courtney I'm not sure but I did find this forum forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?9307385-Fender-sound-system-work-with-RCD330 where a few of the people said that it does work, they just had to disconnect the car battery before installing.

So you didn't need to code anything and it worked with the DynAudio? Did you upgrade firmware in the RCD330?

That's correct Josh, didn't need to code anything and it works with my Dynaudio system. I haven't upgraded any firmware.

The spare blank button on the head unit can you get a button and program it to open waze?

I don't think so as none of the buttons associate with Apple CarPlay directly other than to start it but that is an awesome idea Adrian! If you figure it out somehow please do let me know.

Did u guys have a problem with extremely loud volume when plug it to CarPlay via USB? I was told it was a software issue. THX 😊

Would this radio fit into a 2015 Beetle? Every video I've found in regards to this radio shows it in a Jetta or Golf, but I just wanted to double-check before making this purchase.

Seems a bit out dated now, especially no multi touch, any newer models to look at without it being way more expensive? Also, do the keys have back lights? My stock radio gives a nice feel to the interior matching all the red lights on the different nobs and buttons

Not that I know of :( I sold my GTI and honestly don't remember if the buttons were backlit. Sorry! -Ben

You can get a wireless CarPlay USB adapter if you’d like.

Hey Carina, thank you! Yeah it should work in a MKV! Double check in the info section of the amazon link I have in the description. I actually emailed Carplay2Air and they said it wouldn't work since it's not a "factory install" but I actually do think it'll work since it's a VW radio.

I have a mk6 Jetta with the facelift and for some reason the back up camera won’t work with the red 330

Question, does it support back up cameras too? I found one for my 2011 gti and want to buy/ install but I’m concerned it doesn’t support…

Yeah it comes with an RCA adapter to plug in a backup camera. -Ben

Does it work for 2015 VW Jetta ?? Doesn’t have screen

I am considering this unit for my 2013 Jetta. I noticed that your vehicle, like mine had a CD player in it. Does installing the new unit eliminate the CD player? Not a huge deal since you would be gaining so much with CarPlay and I don't listen to CDs anymore. Thanks

Hey Cody you're right! The new unit does eliminate the CD player completely so you won't be able to play any CDs but you can use CarPlay, Bluetooth or even insert an SD card with music if you want. Thanks for watching! If you order from Amazon please use the link in the video description :)

FYI you can't get AM radio stations on this in North America (if that's your thing) because the AM steps in 9Hz increments, not 10 like in North America....

Drew I know! It would work! Check the Amazon page I linked in the description it says it fits the 2012 CC :)

I’m curious if you lost any functionality from the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel. On my Passat it controls all the MFI stuff and settings. My factory radio requires me to pair my phone through the use of these buttons on the steering wheel and using the screen in the gauge cluster. Thanks

Hey Josh didn’t lose any function of the right side buttons and you’ll be able to pair your phone through the touch screen on the RCD330. The only thing I lost in my MFI is the navigation since CarPlay doesn’t transfer over. Why year is your Passat?

Should I Get It Reviews I have a 2015 TSI SEL Premium. It has the RNS510 with built in NAV and Fender Audio (Dynaudio in other parts of the world) I ordered the Noname rcd330 plus 187b unit and the seller is coding it to work with fender audio for me. Apparently some don’t work with it. I was just trying to figure out what loss of capability I was going to have (if any). Appreciate the reply.

My belief is it's a genuine VW part, the reason it gets pulled out from some VWs in China? I have no idea. Even if it's not from VW this head unit has been working great in my car for over 6 months now so I'm happy to recommend it.

I looked at some forums online and it does work in a 2011 Polo so I assume it would work in the 2010 model as well as the interiors appear to be the same.

I have a 2011 vw Jetta. I wonder if you would know which radio I need.

I believe it will yes! There are a few other videos I've seen on youtube of the more "standard" radio being replaced by this.

This is the newer version of the one I have amzn.to/3dFK9AC it's called the Akaso Trace one.

Does the reverse camera work without having to get dongles, adaptors and re-wiring etc?

Yeah it includes the 1 adapter needed to plug in the reverse camera.

Any updates or glitches of the unit up to now? I’ve heard a lot of people needing to return it and get a new one. What’s your experience? Do you still have it to this day? Does it still perform like it does from the beginning??

Hey Justin, good question! I am driving my car a lot less now due to Covid and also buying a Porsche Cayenne Turbo recently but this head unit still works as well as it did day 1 for me. No issues thankfully. Bluetooth connection is good, charges my phone 100% of the time, Apple CarPlay works well, etc.
