    Guys who find success on the ground follow those same principles. Commit to one trail, see the deer at 90 degrees, draw and shoot when the deer gets past you. It's awesome knowing you can do it in all sorts of terrains and habitats

    I hunt public land in MS, federal lands associated with flood control....watersheds, rivers, creeks, channels, wet - dry - wet - dry ...miles of swamp (yankees call it "marsh" lol)...Dan taught me TWO things that made a big difference to my hunting: First, bucks will do CRAZY things to get away from people. I honestly did not know three years ago that bucks would walk/swim miles out into swamps where there is ZERO food. I always focused too much on FOOD instead of SECURITY. Dan changed that for me. Secondly, to be successful *consistently* you HAVE to go where other hunters either can't or won't go. I know look for places with deer tracks, but no BOOT tracks. It works. But it's HARD WORK. I'm 53. I pray I can stay fit enough to keep doing this many more years. Thanks Dan!

    Good luck getting away from people. I hunt in MS too. I used to be able to get away from people but can’t do it anymore. The use of GPS has made it too easy. Some of the hardest nastiest places I used to hunt now have treestands everywhere.

  • @jameshansen6445

    Hey Dan, you have taught me alot of tricks. But i have a tip for you that will make your marsh hunts easier....instead of using a machette to clear the cattails try a bill hook or brush axe. The curved tip will bite into the cats instead of glancing off....works great. Fiskers makes a nice affordable one. Called the 9 inch brush axe.

    So what you’re saying Dan is we should look for the pink ribbons on the cattails in the swamp? In all seriousness, great approach. I’ve been doing some winter scouting but am not a fan of leaving tracks in the snow. Makes it too easy for others to follow

    A couple I hunt would be, low access parking with deer bedded high by the road, and small public pcs over looked cause of hard access or little to no signage showing it as public. Another may be entrance that crosses a river,

  • @dualthreatoutdoors

    @dualthreatoutdoors

    4 жыл бұрын

    The Hunting Beast the by the road option and the crossing the river option are the only options that you mentioned that I haven’t looked into yet. Many of the spots I hunt are hard access; .25-.75 miles straight up a steep cliff followed by .25-.75 miles back in from there. I have found that these areas get totally undisturbed in archery, but some pressure from the back side during gun season drives. There are definitely some creek/river crossings I know of that I should check out, just might need a kayak or small boat to cross, they’re too deep to wade. Really gonna try to find those close to the road spots though. Haven’t hit on one of those yet.

  • @oldschoolhoosier

    Well, all I can say is, we don’t have to worry about the snowflakes taking our hunting spots. They think all the food comes from the stores...lol...and as far as them using a bow and walking to your stand, thats to much work. Great Video Dan.
