As someone who dresses very different to most people, I have a personal connection with this song. ''Ridicule is nothing to be scared of'' is something to live by.

Was lucky enough to be an extra on this vid. Had a great day shooting it on a hot August day, Will never forget it. Who knew it would become so iconic, Happy days.....

I worked at Broadcasting House at the time when he came up for an interview at the Radio 1 building, opposite. I remember running down the flights of stairs to meet him. He was beautiful, gorgeous black curly hair and lovely blue eyes. Quite shy and "boy next door", very ordinary and relatable without the stage makeup. Best days of my life 😊

His videos are absolutely epic. pure irony. the guy had a good sense of humor

Imagine being a ten and a half year old kid, a bit shy, a bit socially awkward (or 'weird' as we used to call it in the 80s) growing up in a shithole town in the north west of England, in a low income family with your dad out of work and your mum just about keeping things together with a part-time cleaning job, two years into Thatcher's demolition of the UK's social fabric, with seemingly the whole country reinforcing the message that you're nothing now and you will never be anything. Then imagine how it felt to turn on the telly and see some super fucking cool, utterly beautiful man, dressed like a cross between a Regency dandy and a decadent pirate, tell you 'ridicule is nothing to be scared of'. Cheers Adam.

The percussive, tribal rhythm has always been one of the band's hallmarks and it's put to good use here. Catchy and compelling track and a good music vid from MTV's early days.

I fricking love my hometown of Columbus (Ohio!). Whilst window shopping in an alternative-funky cool side of town, this was playing overhead. Well naturally, I was seriously getting into it! Pretty soon I look over and a fabulous fellow Ant maniac started doing the dance with me! We made $3!!! Lmao

Kind of laughed it off at the time, but it's actually pretty bloody awesome and having Diana Dors was a touch of magic

I must have been about 10 & did not get it when it came out, didn't understand the appeal. One or 2 kids in my class were big fans. Now I think this song and video are incredibly powerful.

The only band in music history that couldn't be copied or imitated. One and only original. Ant fan for life.

My husband and I saw Adam and the ants play live at hofstra college in new York, long island in 1983, I think that was the year. They were great. I have forgotten how beautiful Adam ant is (he still looks good today in his 60's), and love the way he moves. So talented. Loved their style of dress, hair, and this song is so original and I am trying to live by lyrics "ridicule is nothing to be scared of". The eighties were great, so glad my husband and I were there and young to enjoy it. Adam and the ants were one of our favorite bands, and they still sound good today!

Be honest......how many of us have done the Diana/Adam 'flinging our arms up and down' dance at some point during the 40+ years since this song was #1 in the UK charts? Whether that be at a wedding, a retro 80s night etc.....or in our own bedrooms as kids all those yonks ago!

Are you serious?? Come on. I watched this when I was 16, 17 years old and fell in love with "Adam". Splitting up laughing now I watch it again. The colours are too bright, and I can spot the gold painted cardboard from here!!😂 Musically it seemed to get interesting, with the combi of north-American indian tribal music and pop. But the first album was disappointing and I never bought the second one. It was fun but to call it genius is in my view ridiculous.

I will admit I too dressed up like Adam for Halloween, first pair of pleather pants.....had a stiffy all nite, and to think I still thought I was straight, Adam I love you then and I love you now.......of and that goes for the Ants too.....

I dressed like him in 9th grade, which was 2013. No one understood it but like, one teacher

"Prince Charming" was a number one single in the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in September 1981 for Adam and the Ants, featured on the album of the same name. Written by Marco Pirroni and the Ants, it was their second number one single. Fellow band member and co-producer Merrick (Chris Hughes), normally on drums, played a stirring riff on an open-tuned acoustic guitar throughout the song; lead guitarist Pirroni mimed to this part on both an orchestral harp and a miniature version of the instrument in the promotional video, which was based on the pantomime Cinderella. The music video was also notable for its extravagant production. It featured a swashbuckling Adam Ant, in flamboyant Regency clothes, performing a much imitated arm-crossing dance. Diana Dors, in one of her last on-screen performances, appeared in the video as a Fairy Godmother.

You also forgot to mention, it wa also a hit single in Sweden, Holland, Austria, + Australia. + the album of the same name was also a hit in them countries i mentioned!
