Ғылым және технология
While on the set of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Adam chats with VFX Supervisor Alessandro Ongaro about the marriage of visual effects with principal photography to create the distinct world of the movie. Whether that's planning for digital scenery, light references for ghosts, or paying homage to the effects of the 1984 Ghostbusters film, here are the roles and responsibilities of the visual effects team on location!

Adam really needs to spend a day with The Corridor Crew. They almost fainted when they were with Alex Laurant and one of the photos he showed them had Adam in it and he told them "yeah Adam and I go way back.".

Should of used practical on the ghosts i think the cg looks terrible. Sad when the ghosts look better in 84. Movies are a joke today
A "love letter to the 84 movie". Basically a love letter to his dad. That's nice. Thanks for sharing this, Adam.

I could listen to Adam talk shop with professionals all day long; he's great at drawing out their experience, while adding his own insights, all while not taking over the conversation. Also, I was already looking forward to Afterlife, but each of these videos has ramped that excitement up steadily to the point where it's my most anticipated film of the year!

I’d honestly watch a talk show with Adam Hosting.
So I noticed something that might be my favorite detail yet. As we all know, the Ecto is a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Sentinel. Living in the middle of nowhere, it would make sense for Egon to need parts readily available for it. SO, sitting in the yard, is a 1958 Cadillac Series 62 sedan, which by all of my research so far, has an incredibly similar parts selection (or atleast close enough for Egon to modify.) EXCELLENT set dressing. A detail they did not have to add, but wonderfully appreciated.

I noticed that in the very first trailer. Several "donor" Caddies on the property.
THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD MOVIE. I’m so proud to see love and care for the history and fan base is being considered. I watched the original almost everyday after school in 1987-1989 VHS. Massive fan here! 👋🏼 “The flowers are still standing!” “He just slimed me!”

Adam, you sir are the perfect person to be doing this kind of thing for us. The energy that "oozes" (see what I did there) out of you during this video is awesome. I am living a dream through you, and I thank you for what you do. Cheers!!
What an insanely good interview, it was in such a detailed matter I could actually learn from it & understand everything
I wish more cg guys had as much love for the practical fx as he does.
You can tell this film has a lot of love & care being poured into it. I can't wait :) Thanks, Adam!

Your age has nothing to do with it. It's experience and that takes time and talent. Besides, the same computer you're watching this on can make film quality special effects. At this point in oh history there's no excuse.

I didn't really get started until my 30s. it's just a question of whether you're willing to learn & apply yourself. Best part about being older is we know how it was done back in the day & when something needs that "retro look" that's so popular these days we can nail it while the kids will get 99.9% of the way there & see something's off but not know what. Meanwhile I'm over here laughing because I know it just needs a tiny wiggle because optical compositing was layers of film shot onto more film meaning you'd get the film gate jitter from those different cameras.
from how involved he's been i'm thinking adam is going to have a cameo in the backgrond of a scene at some point but only recognising it's him by the hat
Each of your onset vids gets me more pumped to see it! ;)
“Ray, has ever occurred to that the reason we’ve been so busy lately because the dead HAVE been rising from the grave?”
Wow, I didn't think about the difference between 1984/89 special effects and 2020. I'm really going to enjoy looking at this movie a bit differently now! Thanks!
It makes me so happy that they aren't relying solely on CGI. And it seems the CGI will be done with care and respect for the look and feel of the originals.
Alessandro spoke beautifully and with such passion. Look forward to seeing his work on the big screen
I finally got to see it last night and it was a great time. The visual effects was amazingly good and the story was so endearing.
Yes! I really can't wait to see this move. It was a huge part of my growing up. Thank you for sharing this with us. You the best.
Awesome work Adam! I hope you get to do more behind the scenes kind of stuff of productions being filmed!
Thanks Adam! I’m super excited to see this film now!
Afterlife brought the franchise back to where it belongs. Absolutely phenomenal.

@@tested The part about taking different materials/colors to the set and getting different light readings and seeing how the light on the set impacts the color of something that might be added later was the best part for me. That's probably why so much SFX CG work looks so disconnected because there wasn't a way to match the set's lighting to what was going to be created later.
What a charming man. Adam, thanks for taking the time for this.
these are the best sort of videos. i could watch a 2 hour version lol
The VFX department liking the fact that Jason had a VERY CLEAR vision of exactly what he wanted... as an illustrator and colorist for a living I cannot stress enough how WONDERFUL it is when a client has a very clear vision of what they want. Most lay people assume that artists want absolute freedom whenever possible, but in many cases that isn't true at all. The thing with many creative people is that the possibilities are SO VAST and SO NUMEROUS that it's actually a detriment to have too much freedom when it comes to creating something for a client. I'm always happiest when my clients know exactly what they want and can describe it to me in detail, sometimes even providing reference for various things within the piece. It makes my job much easier, it lets me work faster, and in the case of jobs where I charge by the hour? It saves the client money.
17 more days till this amazing movie comes out!! Seeing these episodes and all that Jason and the crew have shown us fans I feel this film is gonna blow us all away. This is such an amazing time to be a Ghostbusters fan

I really wish that the special effects for this movie were animated and blended like the original movies. There's such a raw feel to how things used to be vs today's CGI. "The scourge of Moldavia!" Basically what you're saying @6:45
This inside look as a run up to the release is really cool. I do hope other movies will take this and run with it. I'd love to see Adam do an inside dive into the Matrix Resurrections.
Cool
What great about the original marshmallow man being just a guy in a suit as opposed to being a composite puppet, is nowadays they can make CGI so realistic looking as far as textures the little guys just look like little guys in suits.

Here's a random question: what times where you surprised by the reaction of Jamie or the Build Team to the results of a Mythbusters experiment? So; when were the results exactly as you had expected but opposite of what your team mates were thinking would happen?
I'm kind of interested if the sparse leafed trees around the house. Are they real, transplanted, groomed, or are they some part or more artificial? It seems that a live tree would not carry a constant look over time, like with the amount and color of the leaves. Also it seems that the trees would have been placed in those locations in relation to the shooting angles.
Alessandro is so cool what
I'm wondering if Alessandro knows what work Adam used to do on films
should be fun
Something so simple as trying to keep the look of the old visual effect does a lot, and the 2016 didn't even try doing that...

So they grab enough data from the set to crate matching whole scenes from scratch? Oi vei!
All those Caddies in the junk yard though😂
All sequels should use the same visual effects as its predecessor, it would help terminator franchise, robocop and even possibly star wars. Labyrinth will be a flop
The cgi in all films since conception sadly always looks weak and unrealistic in regards to the film grain environment.
