It's soooo awesome to see Adam, who is basically the face of climbing, to be growing into such a clear headed, well rounded, mind oriented, positive and uplifting human being
Getting better and better at climbing thanks to you. I see you as a role model and I try to replicate your climbs. I just started and your on a whole different level but I like to challenge myself even if I fail it’s fun :) my body is in my dream shape...and it almost makes me cry...climbing changed my life🙏🏽❤️

Just can't help but like Adam and his outlook. Always interesting videos.

Arthur V hate to be that guy but don’t make this comment un less you’re vegan, otherwise your own footprint is far greater than Adams
@arthurv8905

Ritchie Austin a few things. 1) veganism is not the silver bullet you think for the environment. There are other approaches which are equally valid. 2) I eat meat. Not a great deal of it, very rarely beef, and I try to ensure it is locally sourced and sustainably raised, but i still eat meat. 3) there is no way in hell even if i did eat large amounts of beef that my footprint would even approach someone who does as much travelling as Adam, that is a total fabrication. I would love to see the calculations that lead you to that conclusion, i am guessing you did none. And finally, 4) i wont be silenced from the climate debate by a sanctimonious vegan youtube commenter.

@@arthurv8905 since the major reasoning for deforestation is soy farms for which 80% goes to feeding livestock, cutting out meat and dairy from your diet does have a huge impact on the environment, not to mention animal agriculture is the leading cause of water pollution. As for comparing it to travelling, it doesn't come close, with animal agriculture being the leading cause of methane emissions, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. www.fao.org/3/a0701e/a0701e00.htm That study clarifies that point. Not to mention the absurd amount of suffering the billions of animals and millions of Americans annually go through needlessly illness and death as a consequence of us needlessly consuming animal products. Just saying, if you want to be an environmentalist and make a change, then you inevitably have to go vegan and lead by example my dude.

@@ritchieaustin5451 "As for comparing it to travelling, it doesn't come close, with animal agriculture being the leading cause of methane emissions, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide." it is not enough to say that this is a rule and therefore you can hold everyone equally accountable, otherwise you are just as accountable as me. You cannot take global statistics and extrapolate to a single person from that, particularly when you are trying to make a case by case comparison. That is terrible statistics. I eat little meat, pretty much no beef, and do very little traveling (and when I do it's using public transport, I don't drive). I do everything I can to reduce my CF, and I can absolutely assure you that it is significantly less than someone who does as much traveling as Adam, vegan or not. You cannot just say "go vegan" and assume it is a flack jacket against any criticism on this matter. As a side not, if you are trying to support a point with data, link a specific paper rather than a 400 page report, expecting me to trawl through the whole thing (which I would be surprised if you did yourself). At the very least, cite which page/line supports your claim. The general rule with citations is to be as specific and clear as possible to reduce the amount of work the reader has to do. You may as well link a google scholar search and say "the evidence can be found here". Too vague, easily dismissed.

@@arthurv8905 end of the day, the greatest thing a person can do for the planet, their own health and the lives of trillions of innocent beings is go vegan, That point can be danced around, but evidence shows the best thing people can do is to go vegan when it comes to climate change. A big reason this point isn't so widely publicised is because their are big pharma companies at hand who benefit with billions in profit from the illness caused by disease from consuming animal products. I speak from experience as someone who found the diet purely from a health standpoint in an effort to cure my "non curable" eczema through diet and lifestyle, which I was successful in.
Dat carbon footprint
I want a van like that one!
Nice episode, as always Regarding cooking, is "doping" a thing in climbing? If so, is it "safe" to eat food not prepared by yourself or your team as you're never 100 percent sure whats in it and you dont want to accidentaly fail a test.
Hi Adam, do you offset the carbon footprint of your flights? I don't think this issue is talked about enough in the climbing community - we all love to travel and enjoy the natural world, but by flying we are contributing to its destruction. Obviously flying is a necessary part of your career, so carbon offsets are a good compromise! It would be awesome to see more high profile climbers talk openly about this.
@ttdm3396

Hi gini, do you really believe in carbon compensation ? I mean to me carbon compensation is just a nice way to let everyone not change anything to their lifestyle while feeling good about being eco-friendly. Some would say it's greenwashing.... But I do agree with you that the issue should be talked about, both in the climbing community and in the pro sports in general !
@ginimorandi51
5 жыл бұрын
@@ttdm3396 It is far from a perfect solution - carbon offset payments generally go towards tree planting, but the trees will take years to mature and absorb enough carbon to offset the person's emissions, and we need to remove carbon from the atmosphere now. The best option is to not fly and travel overland, which is entirely feasible in Europe but not really an option for travelling to America, Japan etc. That is why for professional climbers like Adam carbon offsets may be a good compromise. I know for example that Alex Honnold offsets all his flights and uses his platform to talk about the climate crisis. Tommy Caldwell is also really vocal and active in this regard. We need more top climbers to use their powers for good by engaging with the issue of climate change and inspiring the huge community of climbers to do the same!

@@ginimorandi51 Flying is often not that much worse than driving alone in a car would be, especially when it comes to very long distance travel. I think a carbon price would fix the issue. Fewer people would fly because of the higher prices, and the added income could go to mitigate climate change.
@miastacey5875
5 жыл бұрын
@@DirtyPoul It simply isn't true that flying isn't that much worse than driving in a car. Planes produce not just CO2 but also ozone and vapour trails up in the troposphere. In the short term (5 - 10 years) these produce huge amounts of warming - some studies suggesting over 50 times as much as the warming produced by a car. For climate change tipping points which are due to happen in the next 5 - 10 years, Siberian tundra melt releasing methane for example, this short term warming could be the thing that makes them happen. A higher carbon price will simply mean that the wealthy still fly as much as they like - a complete change in what we view as an acceptable way to travel is needed.
@DirtyPoul
5 жыл бұрын
@@miastacey5875 Do you have a source for this? I had one when I made that comment, and I'll see if I can find it. But it said that it was about 50% worse than to drive alone over long distances, measured in CO2 equivalents. Why would it matter if the wealthy fly as much as they like? If they paid twice the damages they do, meaning the payment can result in mitigating twice as much CO2 from being emitted to the atmosphere. Honestly, what's the alternative? Banning flying? Seriously? How you ever going to get anybody to sign up to that idea considering how insanely useful it is.
