Adam Ondra #20: Injury

Спорт

Injuries are things that are always good to avoid. Now with the Tokyo preparation going on, trying to combine all three disciplines, it is getting progressively harder yet even more important to stay injury-free. Last weeks I have been struggling with a wrist injury and this episode of RTT talks exactly about it.

I think an injury is a good opportunity for the body to recovery... I am relativly often injured but I never had the impression that it threw me back from my climbing skills and body fitness... Of course, the first two weeks are hard and I can only climb relativly easy routes but after these weeks I always feel stronger than every before... Hope it might happen to Adam as well! @Jim The normal human A Placebo is something that looks like a medical treatment but has no known medical effects. For example, in acupuncture, they've done studies where the "placebo treatment" is poking someone randomly with toothpicks, i.e. there is no penetration and it's not on "xi" points. So when I say "placebo is a hell of a drug", what I am saying essentially is "fake treatments sure can trick a lot of people", but in a way that is kind of a jokey reference to "cocaine is a hell of a drug" which is memed sometimes.

You do know that chinese medicine has 2500+ years of studying human habits, body signs, healing process etc. ? Because we don't necessarily understand how it works 100% doesn't mean it doesn't work. There are by the way many example of what is called referred pain/projected pain. Such as myocardal infarction that can generate pain in the back, jaw, shoulder and left arm, or even belly. Or gallbladder calculus projecting pain below the right scapula. the list goes on. Btw, It has been shown by surgical proceedures, quite recently, that acupuncture points appear to be located on the area where a cutaneous nerve pierces through from the lower layers of skin to the upper layers. Nevertheless, placebo does part of the work indeed, but I find it rude to boil it down to it only. (I am not an accupuncutre practicioner)

Adam: I am obviously no where near your level but I am from NZ and I climb around grade 25/26. I have injured myself in the past and I am also currently injured but some of my best climbing has been when I have come back after an injury. I know the mental side of it is hard and it seems like you are going backwards but the physical side does need a rest from time to time. I think you will be surprised (:

Accupuncture to the belly helps the wrist? I hear most people that pay for this have had a massive bump to the head.

Doctor & climber here, not convinced about that acupuncture and the fact that you need a break... you need to read the book by Dave MacLeod "Make or Break" !!

Turmeric mixed with black pepper is a great way to knock out inflammation! Scott Jurek set a record in a 100 mile race even though he got injured the day before cause he was eating tons of turmeric all night!
