Wonderful perfornance. The soloists' voices are rich and expressive. One can even hear the choir, which is often overly muted. I performed this with my college choir in the mid 70s at Stony Brook University in NY, under Amy Kaiser. We sang it in the original German. This is likely the nicest section of the entire piece.

What makes this outstanding is the fact that Adam Lau has, (learned by heart both words and score) thus affording himself to add expression to his part. Exceeding the usual static performances, Adam has given the vital spirit of life in his dedication to this role; There can be no doubt that the creator, creation, and composer have been most highly praised through this unique rendition. If granted a concert wish, I would request this man in the principle role of “Elijah”.

What utterly wonderful music. I feel that beautiful as the soprano's voice is she is outshone - and far outshone - by her male colleague who for me presses all the right buttons in tonal quality and wholehearted commitment to and projection of the text.

I can never tire of this dedication, a wonderful expression of praise from the heart and not from the looking to the score. That which is from the heart is also received into the heart, which I count a blessing. What a compliment to each other these soloists, the question now must be; When are you going to compliment Mendelsshon’s “ELIJAH”.?

My most sincere congratulations. In general, I prefer the words in German, because it seems to me as if the music was created to those words. But your performance is amazing. I'm glad to have evaded the path of "in general" and that you share this great piece of art with us. Thank you!

TheAbisf If you prefer the German that’s a personal preference, I think you are right too that Haydn probably conceived the work with the German words in his mind, though with an awareness of the English there too. In fact, Haydn always intended it as a dual English and German work and the original libretto was in English (he brought it back from England), translated into German then - rather poorly - translated back by Baron van Sweiten. The first published edition was also dual language in German and English. Interestingly, the famous Vienna performance in 1808, Haydn’s last public appearance, conducted by Salieri and attended by Beethoven, was performed in Carpani’s Italian translation. In short, I think Haydn hoped people would listen to the work in a language they understood; he would have been happy to hear the work in English or German, or indeed Italian, or any other language.

@@lauap06 Have you noticed how the soprano sings with such confidence and power when she knows a bass is covering all the low notes? This can also be seen in the KZread videos of Russian soprano Garifullina singing the song deja vu with baritone the late Dmitri Hvorostovsky.

@@lauap06 What would happen if you sang this song with American contralto Anastasia Lee Johnson singing the soprano part an octave lower? I have never seen a duet with a bass and a female contralto. Watch Anastasia Lee on KZread sing Skyfall, Amazing Grace and Besame Mucho. What do you think of the double bass KZread rendition of the Johnny Cash song Ring of Fire by the Quintet called Home Free with bass Avi Kaplan of the quintet called Pentatonix? I am fascinated by male basses and female contraltos and wonder why they never get to sing together.

Haydn always intended the work to be dual language, and the original libretto was in English; the first published score was in both German and English. The famous last public appearance of Haydn in 1808, conducted by Salieri and attended by Beethoven - the one of which every cd has the same painting on the cover or in the booklet - was actually given in Italian; French, Swedish, and lots of other languages also appeared very soon after the original German/English version. In short - Haydn wanted people to hear The Creation in a language they understood.
