Here in 2024, just watched him perform in concert and the dude is awesome. Just watched another video about the criticism Adam Ant took for this shirt performance and it is just petty. He was early in the show and he brought energy with his one song. Bravo Adam Ant. Critics are stupid.

I love Adam Ant, and I know he's a great performer, but you really can feel how stressed he must have been, and how much pressure he was under , in this video. He looks and sounds - as Clive Barker said, once - "like a man running up a down escalator so as to stay at the top." I still love this video though - something raw and real about it.

@@TheAdamandtheants I read that Adams manager managed another big name who I can't remember at the moment who played and Geldof didn't want Adam to even play but the manager said you want (the other band)? Then Adam will play. If Adam doesn't play they don't play so Bob said fine, he gets one song, take it or leave it. Adam has said he thinks it was a mistake and a waste of time to do it as he looked back at it.

@@Looking1231 Woah, I didn't know that. Pretty harsh to have to blackmail Geldoff to put the Ants on. Adam should have been in the list of potentials from the start. He'd had a string of hits leading up to his solo years and he was obviously still firing going by this video. He 's putting everything into filling up that huge stage. Adam had refused Geldoff's request to "Play the Hit" and played his new single instead. I loved it, a totally committed performance - Viva Le Rock was one of the more memorable tunes played that day. This is a great performance. I don't understand why people say it isn't. Adam gives it 100%. As for all that nonsense about him playing his latest single, he wasn't the only one that did. He should have been able to do a couple more songs like most other artists did. I think there was a big element of Geldof getting his own back on his contemporaries. Without the Pistols and the Clash he wouldn't have had a career anyway. If Strummer had been there doing London Calling and Armagideon Time it would have been a damn sight more poignant than Geldof doing I don't like Mondays

I knew who he was at this time! I was twenty-three years old, married to a Marine (USMC), had two small boys, aged 2 and 1 years old. I was a very busy, stay at home Mother. I saw Adam Ant on MTV in one of his music videos. Instantly, I stopped what I was doing. (I think I was chasing one of my boys, lol). I stared at the t.v. I heard the music. The beat was so new, fresh and different, and it got my attention. I just absorbed this young, sexy, charismatic man dancing and singing in his military jacket, tall Black boots, and his face in make up. He took my breath away. I thought, "Who is this man?" He was absolutely gorgeous! He was so vivacious and talented! He had a strong stage presence and oozed sex appeal! He looked like he was having so much fun too! Whomever thought he was over the hill at this very important concert didn't know shit! He's still singing and looking great for his age. I plan on seeing him soon. My life has changed. My kids are now grown, and I am divorced. My sons still listen to Adam Ant.Thank you, Adam Ant/Stuart Goddard for your music, time and talent. You made my days easier and entertained me as I waited for my husband to come home to us on the weekends, when he could. He was stationed in San Diego, an hour and 1/2 away from home. Even now, when I hear Adam Ant, it takes me back in time and I smile. I still love Adam Ant! ❤

Wow- I was a huge Adam Ant fan and this is the first time I've seen this outstanding performance! Up to that point I had all of his albums and bought this single with Apollo 9, but then everything seemed to fade away in '85. It sounds like he lost support from his management & industry as he transitioned from the top of pop to adult contemporary so fast. Crazy story.

@@ferocel No he was coping okay with the Motown thing. He had to sit down when he came back and finished off the Ohio show and he was thinking of doing a sat down show for other US dates that tour. @@kurtvanderbogarde8402 Right. I’ve seen the Motown clip and don’t recall him sitting down so I was mislead. Thanks for clarifying. It’s nice to see mostly positive comments on this clip. Mostly from fans of course, but still heartening. I remember it live and he was generally slagged off in the weeks after and I felt awful for him.

Your 7 inch is a mispress. Look up "Greta X" on KZread, that was meant to be the B-side. The mispress fouled up the single release and impacted on the album campaign, it was his last album for CBS.

Greta X got done live by the original Ants for a while in March/April 1978 but sadly no tapes of this circulate - reportedly before Marco re-arranged the song, the chorus had a Bo Diddley style beat to it.
