    I lived on Adak in 1964 and 1965 when I was in my first 2 years of high school. My Dad was a Seabee stationed there. We hiked a lot and fished salmon after hiking out to Shagack Bay. The school was small and our housing was the older single story buildings. We had a tidal wave alert when Anchorage had the big earthquake in ‘64. Lots of memories, a great experience but very isolated. The bus drivers would carry the little kids to the door of the house in bad storms or the wind would blow them away. An amazing place even back then

    I worked at the schools in Adak in the mid 1980s. For Alaska, it was an amazing place, movie theaters, McDonalds, bowling ally, pool, gym, a PX, Commissary... and more. The elementary school was designed to withstand a tsunami, not to ward off snow drifts... All the Aleutian Islands are beautiful, rugged and windy.... A truly amazing place...

    MEMORIES!!! I was at ComSta and a short stint at Navsta 76-78. I loved it up there! We had a close knit non denominational church, got baptised in the Bering Sea, climbed mountains, hiked, ate lots of salmon, king crab and kokenie. Truly loved it and was sad to leave to my next duty station, wash d.c. I dream of going back, and wish I kept in touch with all my friends up there, as this was way before social media! Perhaps someone remembers me...I drove a green 63 chevy bel air which I bought from my Pastor for 400 bucks. It actually got stolen one night by a crew from a coast guard cutter ( we never locked our cars or doors up there).

    My dad was stationed there in the 70s. I had a blast! Sure, the weather wasn’t the best, but when it was good, it was a fantastic place to grow up. 2 gyms, 2 bowling alleys, movie theater, indoor pool, salmon fishing, etc… I played Little League baseball on a field made of gravel. The pitcher’s mound was a fiberglas formation that could be moved on/off the field. There were only 3 teams: Eagles, Mets and, my team, the Destroyers. Great name and even better memories!

    @@gaildunaganmorrison4298 Wow, possible! I was 6 yrs old in 1958 and so attended the elementary school a couple of years. I learned how to swim in the pool which I think was at the elementary school, and how to skate at the roller rink. The housing area had it pretty good with a roller rink, bowling alley, movie theater and hamburger joint which I'm pretty sure was under one roof. I remember them all, and a few hikes to quonset huts and seeing native black colored flowers in the tundra. Photos I've seen of the living quarters show it was not bad at all, but since torn down because of asbestos. My mom's memories include ordering clothing and shoes from Sears, and actually getting the correct sizes 3-6 months later, and inviting over many lonely sailors for family holiday dinners over the years. What do you remember?

  • @JaysWorldTravels

    @JaysWorldTravels

    Жыл бұрын

    @@BustaShenanigans I can afford it because I don't have a permanent residence. To be able to afford this, you have to give up your car, your apartment, and all bills at home. Thus, you use the same amount of money for traveling rather than for bills at home. Plus, traveling isn't expensive. You can choose what type of budget you want. If you want to do it for free, then you have to compromise and hitchhike for transportation, meet locals to stay with them for free, and then your main costs are food. Of course, there are some flight costs, but that can also be reduced by networking with people working with the airlines. My average cost is $1200/mo or $14K/year. I think most people could afford those costs, but it takes compromise in comfort at times. I don't get any sponsorships with any of these videos. On average, they earn 25 cents per video, as my channel isn't popular.

    These Afgan Migrants need to be at our new Migration and or Refugees. It should be built in Alaska. There are many bases that can hold these people as we vet them. They can actually allow them to start over in Alaska. They can rebuild the base. They have schools, plenty of GI barracks. They have neighborhoods. They can create a great life out there. We can monitor them there and restrict their movement until we clear them. Why are we putting strangers in the center of our country? This is not safe for our US citizens. Remember the Trump Snake story? Look at senator Omar.

    @@JaysWorldTravels The infestructure is there. They can do the work for their rent. They need the shelter and it keeps them from spreading all over the country. We can vet them from that location. Adak is a perfect location. I think after a while , they will be able to go back to their Country. This goes to all the Migration, but mostly the Afghans that we don't know anything about. ADAK Has everything needed for them to start over .

    Adak is pretty far to be sending immigrants. Besides that the government is pretty much spreading them all over the lower 48 anyway. Probably some mingled in Alaska too.

    This needs to be the new Migration Station. We can Vet Migrants and Refugees from here. They can colonize here instead of the exterior of the US.

    @@JaysWorldTravels yes, but we can keep them contained until we vet them. Most say they are looking for work. There is plenty of work. Infact they can even create business and settle there. This can be the doorway to those who are caught crossing illegally. This can be a deterrent from crossing illegally. Most of them are just sitting at our southern border waiting for someone to take care of them they sit for years. We have enough of folks doing that on welfare here in the US. They can do that in their own countries . We now have millions who have created an underground system to get folks into the US to live as criminals. They are folks in positions of power who are causing corruption in our legal system from top to bottom.

    @@JaysWorldTravels remember we had thousands of US military families raised there. They have an entire community sett up. They can do the work needed to get it up to par. They have thousands of barracks for single folks and every age schools. They can make a Court house. The entire process could be taken care of there.
