Thanks for the thorough walk thru. Acura needs to cut their losses on this awkward interface and go to a touchscreen. This design would be a deal killer for me.

dan339g, I thought so too, until I just test drove one to consider replacing my 2019 MDX Advance. It is a spectacular car. I'm 69 YO, and have always been a gadget guy, but the Touch Pad does require a learning Curve. Agreed a Touch Screen would have been better , actually both touch pad and touch screen you would be Utopia, but now behind the wheel 2X, you can used to it. In 2019 , I test drove the RDX which just introduced this Touch Pad, I turned it down after a 10 minute test drive bc of that. But now with some more exposure to it AND also learning that all the main used functions (radio, navi, phone, etc.) can all be accessed quickly via the Steering wheel controls. I have Fathom Blue Pearl with a gorgeous Graystone (IMO the best interior color - totally uniform with the entire interior), WINKING AT ME Big Time...

Not having a touchscreen is the main reason I’m not buying this car. Acura, listen to your consumers. No one ever complained, “yuck, a touchscreen! Give me an awkward touchpad, instead.

I have 19 RDX advantage and really I don’t like my car anymore because of touch pad. It is complicated if you want to jump from one section to another. For example, if I’m using a car play, it is so difficult to navigate to the left side where some icons locked. By the way anyone tried to write on the screen using a touch pad? May be a robot can do I guess.

I've used both Car Play and Android Auto. Car Play has a superior interface IMO. Had a company iPhone 6S and now have a Google Pixel 4XL private phone. There are Pros and Cons to both phones in general. I really like the Pixel, however, I have not seen the 11 or the new 12 .....
They should've just made it touchscreen that touchpad seem like a Hassel
Great info!!! Great job
Man this is a very awesome acura true touchpad i've ever seen in the acura marketing purposes!

I have 19 RDX advantage and not happy at all about a touch pad and a resolution of the display (gps map)
Thank you. This was helpful and I have gotten used to the touchpad. I’m 60 and I like it just fine👍🏾
Very useful, thanks!
Oh, the ELS 16 speaker sound system is Extraordinary.
Hey Drew & Mason, I like your videos. I have a question for you. When in sport mode or if chosen in Individual mode (if selected) It appears the engine deactivation is disabled, BUT what about variable cylinder management? Is the VCM disabled in SPORT mode or ANY drive MODE?
Nice job!
Thanks for this
Another point to emphasize... The wireless connection for Android (Google Pixel 4XL) worked Flawlessly when I just test drove this car yesterday. 2022 Acura MDX Advance. The Touch Pad does have a Learning Curve, but is intuitive. Most of the commonly used functions can be accessed easliy via the steering wheel controls : Radio / source selections, station switching, phone, Navi... The rest is just controlling the various system functions in the car which are MANY . It is a great SUV. Love the HUD .
Thanks!
Awesome and informative video as always y’all! Sorry about your conclusion! Any developments in the keying situation? Also, just so you know, the description is wrong!😸😻😸
Nice! I find the navigation to be cumbersome. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also hard. They should make it a touch screen when you are stationary. That would be so much easier so I can input a destination and then just have the directions in the HUD or Gauges

Most functions can be done by voice in a lot of cars these days. Music, calls and destinations can almost always be done by voice. Of they just add in vocal climate controls no one would need manually use the system while driving. In all my cars with a touch screen I do as much as possible without putting finger prints on the screen. I guess if you have a strong accent and the car can't understand you then it would be a pain. Touch screen still wins for easy use, especially for older people who have trouble talking to the car (like my 60ur old father) since it works like a cell phone.....but I hate fingerprints.
Will this follow over to Honda in the near future? I hope it’ll upgrade from HondaLink.
I've used this. It's awful. Keep in mind I'm a Sys admin, and Tech geek and use a trackpad all day on a laptop, especially since Covid and working from home. The touchpad is just literally the worse. It's just as bad as Lexus's interface from 10 years back. Actually it's worse for most users because it operates differently via apple/android than it's native OS so it's just confusing for less techie people. Plus, the passenger can't use it or touch the screen, so the driver needs to do it all. It takes up too much real estate, where the actual non push button shifter SHOULD BE. The screen is too far away, the backup camera is low res and used only a small portion of the screen - why isn't the backup camera full screen??? Even on the TLX it is no better. They've gone back 10 years with their infotainment system with this garbage. Stop trying to re-invent the wheel. Just put the screen closer, make it large, make it easier to reach for both people in front, make it touch screen, no gimmicky touchpad required. Awful. Get rid of this and the push button shifter for the love of god!

I absolutely agree with you, this system wastes time and adds frustration, I had had the infotainment system from Acura products since the 2006 TL and now the 2021 RDX. They’re changing things for the sake of changing . Like you said they’re trying to reinvent the wheel. This will be the last Acura for me if they keep committing stupid design Chang’s, to me that’s not progress but retrograding. 1995 Integra, 2006 TL, 2009 TL, 2014 RDX, 2017 RDX, 2021 RDX,
Is there a way to remove the cards (the screen on the right) while using Android auto? I'd like to have to full screen while using it?! Thanks
Was going to take a good look at the redesigned 2021 MDX, but this infotainment system would be difficult to accept. How can a luxury car maker be so unwilling to accept the mistake they, and others, made in the infancy of the automotive transition to high tech infotainment systems. No one quite knew what was the best approach for customers at that time. Here we are in 2020, however, and the dust has settled. The industry has standardized on touch as the best method of customer interaction. Yet, Acura is going to lose thousands of potential customers due to an unwillingness to turn the ship and drop a dead end system. This is not how to do business. They are not listening to customers. Many buyers are placing a major emphasis on the infotainment system. Screen size, intuitively, and simplicity are winning. It’s sad to see all of the amazing engineering, engine prowess, and SH-AWD failing to result in purchases due to an executive who can’t admit a mistake and change course. They’ll have to change course at some point, but the brand will be severely damaged by then.

Even Worse, Sometimes, Honda puts somthing in Honda better than Acura.... despite speakers and materials quality.. Sometimes I'm thinking about trade my '15 TLX for 2021 Accord, not 2021 RDX. Back to my sweety Accord after I trade my '08 Accord for that TLX. Especially sence Acura Dealer where I live don't bring Advand Package or PMC models, but I'm interested in Advande, not A-Spec or PMC, I believe the latter is mch expensive.. My interest in Advance Package due to 360 View Camera and Adaptive Dumpers. Maybe I should wait further years..

I’m having 19 RDX advantage and doubt that my next car will be the Acura again.
I have a rather specific question... I currently have a 2018 TLX with the two separate screens (which I love). Does anyone know if the single split screen allows for apple car play on one side and SiriusXM on the other? Most split screens I've seen don't support this, though they do support FM radio or Apple Music on one side and Car Play on the other which is not what I want. I prefer using Google Maps or Waze rather than any built in navigation and don't want to be toggling back and forth on the same screen in order to change the XM station and/or see what song it is if it has to share the same side of the screen with my map app in Car Play.
Hi! I am thinking about getting an RDX A-Spec BUT I am not impressed with the system. I am a current Honda owner and love the touch screen in my CR-V because I can add my own wallpaper pics and change the colors. Can you do that in the new RDX models??? I am a "fAndroid" so I will be connecting that IF I get the RDX. ANY advice, tips, and tricks would be appreciated!!!!! Thanks!!
My mother is getting a new RDX, I sat in it and played with the system for about 5 minutes and I had it down, it is very intuitive and touch screens are unreliable, if you place your finger and swipe it across to what you need and then click it makes it VERY EASY, even my 60 year old mother got a hang of it, fantastic design I expect nothing less from Honda I just hope they put it in the new Honda Civic.
By mistake I disabled the car play enable option how to fix that any suggestions please?
Acura should have just used a scroll wheel or made a touch screen. Even Lexus has begun to roll out touch screens again.
We are getting used to the system. One BIG disappointment was the size of the display for Sirius radio. Acura says there is no way to change it. Has anyone else figured out how to make it bigger?
Can you change background color on the screen?
Instead of the touch pad, they should included a dial that you turn and push to select to enter
What's the background Jazz please?
It's 2021.. Touch screen is a necessary feature, this is a deal breaker for MDX, I think in future MDX still will add touch screen some year as small improvements. I cannot understand how much a touch screen cost, the whole ipad is less than $1000 though.
Omg that touchpad interface is horrendous.
Screen appears rather small due to the inability to go full screen for navigation,CarPlay, android auto or apps.what were they thinking? Or am I missing something?
@nickblack7468

I absolutely agree. Screen is small and it can’t be expanded even the right small portion is not in use. Display Resolution is terrible. I have 19 RDX advantage and not happy with my car.
In this video is saying that display has a high resolution graphic display. In reality it is not true. I have 19 RDX advantage and the map graphics is terrible same as a 360 cameras. With great difficulty I can distinguish the surrounding objects when looking at the cameras. So I’m not relying on them.

@@johncurts2508 Idiot. You claim that your focus and Acura's focus is on safety. The touchpad, where you have to *accurately* place a finger on it and simultaneously coordinate that touch with what's on a screen, is fully opposite to focusing on the road for "safety". I presume it would take someone weeks to get very used to the touchpad while driving. During that time, they are probably a menace to other drivers. People are already very distracted while driving and changing the manner in which people fiddle around with the car's user interface is a problem.

Wow, whatta dumb system. How is it safer than a simple touch screen? It’s like to ask a person to rub his tummy and pat his head at the same time. Is it possible? Yes, it is? Is it easy? Not f-king so. Instead of just touch a button, you have to rub and pat it when you’re driving. I was thinking to buy RDX, but when I realized what they’ve done - no f-king way.
This is so dumb. Imagine your phone with a screen that you can't touch.
