I tried this recently and it worked on my Honda pilot 2005 . Since I noticed Acura and Honda have similar makeup. Before the lacquer thinner, I tried 5 bottles of Catalean at different time intervals and it increase the performance of the car but the light came back on after like 50-100miles . Then I tried 1 bottle of Dura Lube later and the light came on after 300-400 miles. Thanks for the video❤

But did you get code 0420 or the check emissions system notice?

My ‘13 Acura RDX has the code P0420 , I used my humble scanner and I was able to check O2 sensors and Catalytic converter , among others emission components, CAT # 1 reading was HIGH, the rest of components were OK , I’m a DIY enthusiast, in my case it’s not about the cost of the catalytic itself, is about the time it takes to replace such part, on V6 with transverse engine is particularly difficult, I confess I didn’t know catalytic could be clean without taking it out, thanks for the video 👍💪

thanks. it works after i dumped one bottle of catalytic exhaust cleaner. the light is off after i just run about 50 km. i will add this cleaner as routine way in every other tank.

That is great! My fuel mileage has been better since it cleared the cat with this trick. I don’t do it so much since the light turned off.

We have been having this code show up randomly for about 2 years. I will try this, it's better than replacing the cats. Here in WA all cats with all gaskets and hardware is only $200, but installing them is not fun. So I will give this a try and come back to post my results.

Very good. Thinking the combination of all efforts culminated to success. Also, sustained operation spreading the products through the system. Sustained high continuous heat with the treatment flowing for a long periods is key. Drive the car on highway for an hour or two sustained continuous and that should produce better results. Just running around town stops and starts, or a few miles here or there is not as effective. Get the juices flowing! Thanks for the video! And I just noticed, you have 300k on that MDX? What an amazing vehicle. How long have you had it and miles when you bought it? Mostly city driving?

Thanks for watching. These MDX are strong like a tank. I drove it in a blizzard and it was solid and steady. I use it as a road trip car and drive a smaller car in the city. I follow the maintenance schedule and garage it overnight and in bad weather. The alternator is the only critical part that has ever failed and I replaced it woth another Denso. I feel like these could go 500k miles on original engine and transmission.💪💪💪

Is the liquor thinner will not hurt the engine ? Please advise, as I have Acura MDX 2008, 178K miles and recently show the same p0420 code. I tried 2 cataclean and reset light and came back again.

Hi, I did it a while ago and it caused no issues because I added it to 10 gallons of gasoline. If the light came back on, you could try adding a spark plug fouler to one of the sensors to trick the computer. Thanks!

The Cats are expensive, but it's worth getting the Cats replaced even though it cost lots of money. This is only a temporary fix. I have the same issue.

What about 2010 Acura TL AWD 3.7 can I use this method ?..I tried Cataclean twice didn’t work. I get P0430 .

Hi yes, I have tried it on different Honda and Acura. The 3.7 on the TL can burn oil and clog the cats. You might have to run the thinner a few times to clear some of the burnt oil from that engine. Cataclean didn’t work for me. Thanks for watching!

Can I do this to my 07 acura rdx turbo or is it only for non turbo vehicles?

Hi, I never added it to a turbo. It might clog up the turbo because this method dissolves the gunk in the catalytic converter and I believe that turbo recycles the exhaust air back into the intake to push the turbo. If I had a turbo, I would remove the catalytic converter and soak it in degreaser soap overnight. If your engine burns oil, the cat will probably clog back up again in a few months. The same happened to me, I used Lukas fuel injector cleaner and drove about 90 mikes and it went away.

Hi, mi MDX is an older one but holds 20 gallons. I waited to get the tank half way and then poured 1 gallon of lacquer thinner before a 3 hour road trip. 👍👍👍

No, I kept using good gas and add gumout high mileage cleaner to the fuel Once in a while. I do mostly highway driving, I think that if you do a lot of city driving, these MSX can carbon up a bit. Also, i hear that the 2007-2009 don’t burn oil and the 2010-3013 burn oil.

Hi, yes it could work for that code if the cat is dirty. If the sensor is worn out then you might need to replace the sensor.

The TL 3.5 never gave me any cat codes, but it seems that the 3.7 engine carbons up fast. 250k mileage is nice 👍 keep the TL going✌️

Yes, it did not come back. I have been running BP and Shell fuel. I think the previous owner used lower quality fuels. I heard that the 2010-2013 burn oil so your light might come back on. I have the 2007-2009 model that does not burn oil. If your burning oil the cat will clog backup.
