The little knife, ones like that my Grandfather ( born 1899] called it a “quill trimmer” . He used goose quills to write with when he did his calligraphy. And used a knife very similar to that one just to trim his quills. He was 98 when he passed

I love yard sales. I picked up a short scale peavy guitar for 5 bucks a few years ago because it was “broken”. Turned out the solder job on it was terrible and everything was loose. It took me less than five minutes to fix. Gave it a repaint and gave it to my nephew

I agree! I mean in a desperate move i sold my completed collection of pokemon cards 1st and second era of new pokemon for 27$ bc vintage stock is scandalous. And of course i was young and dumb for people who are no longer in my life... Not even for alcohol or drugs... It was the dumbest thing i've done

Incorrect. If you can haggle down, the entire bulk lot + the ETBs were probably a great buy. Rule of thumb is you should always buy Pokemon and MTG lots at a good price. It’s almost always a good decision.

Second this. I make silver jewellery and this is something to definitely keep in mind. Especially as a lot of people do "home repairs" where they add a clasp off a cheap necklace so they can continue to wear their own one without paying for a precious metal replacement...I may or may not also do this even as a jeweller 🤣

  • @johnro6659

I was going to mention the same thing. Recently one of my fiends aunts passed away and she had tons of jewelry. We did the magnet thing and my friend kept tossing jewelry in the costume jewelry pile even thought it was marked 14K all because the magnet stuck to the clasp. I explained to him the springs in the clasps have to be spring steel because precious metals will not work as springs. I put it all in a baggie and we let the jeweler decide if it was real or not and sure enough everything was what it was marked.

  • @dragonshoardstacker

    @dragonshoardstacker

    2 жыл бұрын

@@johnro6659 yes and even the clasp shell is maid of karat gold but just the spring inside of it is spring steel so don't just get rid of the clasp if it's marked just take the spring out and then melt it all and cast yourself something nice for the stack

I would pay that much for the plastic draws full of nick nacks. Dude I scored a bunch of tools from a sale last week and thought of you. An old guy moving from his home to a resthome. No family and couldn't move around very well. He was an engineer for 70 years. He liked how polite my kid was and told us if we took everything including the junk we could have it for free. Took 4 trips to the tip and half a day but we got stuff worth about 3 grand. Tig welder, 3 phase stick welder with 80 rods, still boxed gas welding gear 2 new welding helmets auto darkening. Full set of internal micrometers. And that's not the half of it.

I just wanna say that I absolutely love this video. After being in the antiques and collectables market since I was a small child, I don’t watch garage sale/flea market content on KZread because of how much they bother me. Most people on KZread are going after video games, old clothes, or some furniture, which is all stuff I’m into. But I hate the “chase the bag” mentality that all these people have and how clueless and fast paced everything is. Most people are also aware of what they have when it comes to newer things. But these videos are different for me, you’re going after the small stuff like jewelry, tools and antiques, things my dad taught me to go after and it’s a cozy watch because of how much it reminds me of my father. I go into thrift stores these days and don’t even bother looking for much else besides jewelry and precious metals while all the younger kids are stuck looking for looney toons and Pokémon shirts. Anyways, thank you so much for posting actual good content amongst the sea of bs on KZread.

You’re not really right. For the right price, as long as you know the difference between fake and real, you should buy every Pokemon or MTG card lot you can find. Try to haggle down. Nothing from the video suggested the cards were fake. The best way to tell is to feel the card stock. The second best is judge how bright/dull the ink is.

If you want to do covert filming with your phone a good way to do it is to go into the accessibility settings in iOS if you have an iPhone and set up the option to make your phone black and white and then after you start filming(make sure it’s not on Timelapse or something you don’t want) bring the brightness all the way down and have a soda or something else you normally want to keep upright. Put it behind the phone so as to cover the screen as much as possible, although in low brightness and black and white it’s almost impossible to see the screen. This way it’s a normal upright position for holding a drink and phone in one hand. Doesn’t look weird and you can basically film pointing the camera straight ahead. You can film everything and not have to point it down.

Shane, every time you say "if you're still here", I think to myself, "why wouldn't I be?" You move along at a good pace and make it interesting and enjoyable enough to keep a person's attention. On the Poke'mon cards, I feel you made a good decision to leave them for people that are familiar with and comfortable selling them. Your hand-engraved silver knife was the find of the day. I think the process they used was stamping or engraving, not carving, though I'm not quite sure. Lot of care went into making it. Enjoy it in a display cabinet for a while. ( : Why not?

Shane, when you figure out what you want for that silver knife, let me know. I might be interested... I'm in Westminster Arvada area. Contour gauge...👍 Pokémon cards, best left to someone else...👍

The knife was a great buy. But was there enough silver in the necklace and ear rings to cover their cost? How do you determine how much to pay for sterling ? Thanks

I usually just buy silver if it’s cheap. The earrings only worth maybe $1 in silver but I’m stacking it to melt down for a future video.

My dad has one of those big units full of just useful screws, nuts, and all sorts of stuff. Has it hanging from the wall, very very useful. Yeah this comment is just so I can push the algorithm a bit, nothing spectacular

Good intuition, they sell those Pokemon cards at the swap meet. Also the weight is a dead giveaway, they're thinner and flimsy.

So much fun tagging along with you. I love yard sales and you really did well on that knife. Will we ever know how the gold tested out from your last video? Always a BIG fan of yours. The tools were a great find too. Have a great weekend. 🤗🤗

I would take that 5,00 dollar knife over 100 Pokemon cards. I thought the prospector and those 3 metall gold pans were cool., even though you passed on them. All the hardware will save you a bunch of money and trips to the store. Nice!

Do you consider the costume jewelry at all? I have made a lot of dough selling costume jewelry, of course it depends on the brand and where it was made some costume jewelry can bring in some serious cash. I was recently given a box of supposedly junk jewelry. A majority of it was from costume jewelry companies out of RI where 80% of the costume jewelry manufactured in the US either comes from or came from RI and some of the extinct brands can be worth way more than the .50 cents you grab it up at yard sales. Here in New England you can find tons of it especially in southern Mass and RI. It might be worth while to catch up on what the stuff is worth especially the vintage items you might be missing out of some treasures.

OK that’s interesting though I never really considered trying to resell costume jewelry but maybe it’s something I should look more into. Thank you for that information

Great finds but those Pokémon cards are not going for 60 you can find them for about 5 a piece for the metal ones and the rest are fairly common / bulk cards except the top loaded ones I just bought a bulk lot for $30 for about 1500 cards including holos and reverse holos
