I'm pretty sure it's not common at all to die from quick sand probably told him to watch out he didnt listen and was teaching him. Lesson but the kid wasn't in that much danger and I'm sure they would have jumped in if it got to bad. Maybe I just think that way because I've played in quicksand before

ngl this kid actually has great technique and isn't panicking at all, you never wanna stand or make lots of unnecessary movement (like flailing your arms) in quick sand because liquefaction loves that sheet, your best chance of getting out is by increasing your surface area (like a boat) by dragging your feet while spreading your hands out like webbed feet as you walk with your hands out of the quicksand. never do the earthworm since that wont help you xD

If you ever get stuck in quick sand, never do what the kid did in the video. He stands up straight up before every attempt, and it just sinks him back in. You have jiggle one leg slowly to break up the sand around your leg so you can raise it up to the surface. You then bend your knee and lay down, so your weight is distributed across a larger surface area, which will prevent you from sinking, and after that, you crawl your way out. If you're a person with bad knees and can't raise your leg that high to bend it, just lay down first and slowly wiggle your legs out that way. As long as you keep laying down, you will be able to get your legs free and crawl until you get out.

You need to teach him the importance of spreading out, or trying to flatten his body. The idea is to evenly distribute your weight to stay on top of the quicksand, then make an effort to move across the surface. Once your feet are down, they can be VERY hard to lift them back out. Thus, you're stuck.

@@user-kp6ud7ht4z chances are those bones excavated were mainly from the lower body like feet, leg bones, or hips. Sand is denser than the human body, and by that I mean not just your bones, but also your skin, muscles, organs, and natural bodily fluids, AKA water. When all the meat rots away, the water evaporates and the ligaments on the bones disintegrate, then and only then can bones of an *upper body* get buried. Regarding that burial, it likely happened over time through repeated floods. You can't sink all the way up to your head if you're not a disembodied skeleton though, in vivo the sand will keep you encased like cement and stop around your waist or your chest if you're somehow still struggling and not exhausted. This is due to quicksand's properties as a non-newtonian fluid, when an object of low surface area applies pressure on the otherwise solid sand surface, it displaces the particles and water fills the area where pressure is applied. However, as the remaining sand is compressed down, the particles fill the space back up again and start behaving like a solid, which is how you get stuck. If you've ever been swimming at the beach then the sand under your feet in the water is hard, and it's like that in quicksand too but there's a layer of sand still suspended in the water around your legs. If you know what to do, you'd gradually wiggle out and either float on your back or bear crawl, in both cases increasing your surface area. If you don't know what you're doing then you'll die not from going under, but from exposure to the elements, landslides, flash floods, predators, or dehydration. Your upper body will still be visible and you will see the land around you before you die. Regarding this video: this kid while his form isn't perfect is still crawling out of the sand how you're supposed to. Chances are he was never going to get stuck and the guy recording would never have uploaded this if he knew this kid was in serious danger. Ultimately quicksand is actually very slow and is most dangerous if you freak out or you know another flood is coming. If you don't think that's true look it up for yourself, they tested it on myth busters.

I lack a sense of humor but I hope the commenters comparing this to catching on fire or dying or a heart attack knows that the kid is not in any danger. There are videos of people slipping off a pier or a log and falling into water and both the camera man and the viewers laugh when in reality those people are in more danger than this kid here. At least those people run the risk of hitting their head on the pier or at the bottom or stepping on something unpleasant. Unlike in the movies, quicksand does not suck you under no matter how you struggle. You'll sink to your waist and stop. After that, it just hinders your movement and you have to awkwardly swim to the edge. Death by quicksand usually involves falling in head first or trapping you for something else like a rising tide. And as you can see, neither apply here. Even death by exhaustion is something I've never heard of. Probably because if you're tired you can simply wait to get your strength back then resume the awkward swimming.

There is no explaining it to these people. This vid represents around 60 seconds of several hrs swimming and playing in a west Tennessee clay mine. And yet some how these people know more about what happened in the vid than my son and I do. Its just your garden variety quicksand and the factual and scientific definition and explanation can be easily found for those of us who don't just make shit up in our heads and present it as fact in a comment section of some random video. Driving to work is dangerous, playing in west Tennessee quicksand is not. Fuckin duh.

No telling how much of the stuff we've messed around in before this video but this was the best example I've seen and no more dangerous than any previous. @@tamashford1 well the fact is that do the density it's impossible to completely be swallowed by quicksand. People that know this and how to move their body can escape. That's what this video was about showing that even a child can get out of quicksand and that it's not as bad as people think if they are educated. Whenever you hear about somebody dying from quicksand; it's not because they got swallowed. It's because without proper knowledge of how to get out; you can be stuck indefinitely. If this happens in a remote area and you are alone, you can die of exposure, or drowning if it's in a tidal area. So before calling somebody an idiot, check the statement that you are saying they're an idiot on. You don't die from quicksand by sinking. You die from getting stuck and not being able to have someone around to help you out of it if you don't have the education of what to do when you encounter it. The density will never let you sink above your chest contrary to what movies depict
