Think about water - the molecules are just slightly spaced from each other, which makes the water easily flow on top of itself, and makes it easy to put your hand into it. But for sand, sand isn’t actually a physical object that physically exists. Sand is just a ton of little rocks (minerals) that are bunched up to make a huge pile of minerals and debris.
