Silent Witness actor Liz Carr gets forensic about her family history. She investigates a rumour that an ancestor was involved in some sort of assault, discovering that her paternal great-great-great-grandfather was involved in the attempted murder of a prominent landlord in rural Northern Ireland in the 1850s. On her mother's side, she learns about her grandfather, who died when her mother was just two. Orphaned as a child, John Joseph Hughes took part in the Royal Navy's Northern Patrol during the First World War, then joined the merchant navy and travelled the world.

Liz Carr is the bravest of the brave to seek what has happen in her family. She feels so bad for all the family members, but never blames anyone for her problems. She is lovely.

I wish I could find out about my grandmothers mama. She was too sick to attend grandma and grandpas wedding, so her dad didn’t either. She passed shortly after and her dad went to England and apparently came back with a new bride. So weird my mom never spoke of never knowing her biological grandmother. Mom was an only child and I asked a cousin of hers and she tried to explain some things to me, but just said, “it was complicated”.

get a DNA test done. You'd be surprised just how far they can go back. the other thing you can do is get your parents wedding and birth certificates.. your grandmothers parents names will be on it. or the baptismal records.

@@thevocalcrone Waiting on the blue light special for a DNA test. 🤣 Many documents have been lost over the years. Mama has been gone over 20 years, due to Alzheimer’s. I was 31 when she passed, so now I’m wondering why my GG passed. Family history stuff. 🤷🏻♀️
Life was so hard back in the day my gran had 12 children a wonderfully woman they were that then 😊
