Active Balancer Showdown - LifePo4 Equalizer Testing - Let's test all the 4s configurations!
Ғылым және технология
This is by no means an exhaustive test, I'm aware. This is what I had the time to put together so other folks could get an idea comparatively of where the most popular active balancers I could find stand.
Quick and dirty. Overcharge cell 1, measure the current leaving the cell with each balancer hooked up.
Need a balancer? We chose the best 1.2a and 5a models to sell in our store. Get them for a lot less than you would on Amazon (or anywhere else!) here:

Ďakujem veľmi pekne za vaše video a čas venovaný tomuto porovnaniu balancérov. Veľmi poučné a nápomocné tým, ktorý sa idú rozhodovať nejaké to zariadenie kúpiť a namontovať na batériový pack. Thank you!... 👍👏😉

No problem! Always looking for other things people would like to see tested, too.
The balancing current of DALY does not depend on delta. But JK BMS is the best. Among the DALY balancers there is also a capacitive balancer.
You are not going to get full balance current, Depending on the Voltage delta between the batteries. The more the Difference the more the amps they use to balance. That red one is programmed I believe is programmed to do full or close to full output. But most of the active balancers I have used does it the way I said. The more Voltage Delta more...They tend to put out more to get the batteries to balance faster.

That’s why the delta I was testing at was .2-.3. More than .5 I’ve read (but not seen myself) can damage these cheaper balancers, but wanted a significant delta to get some current flowing.

@@GloweIndustries Yeah most of them are weird. I have the Heltec ones. Most of the time they keep things in check. But I have noticed around .4 .5 they start cranking the amps.
Is there any effect to add same two or more or different active balancers to do more balancing so to multiply transfer of current?

Yessir - you will balance much more quickly and the units will work together. I commonly use a BMS with active balancing, but most BMS are .5a to 2a of current only, so I’ll put an additional 5a balancer on to assist.
I am building some 4s 12p lithium iron fosphate batteries using headway 38120 hp 8 ah cells, i can't use a bms for my application, too many amps, what active balancer would you recommend

Red wires can also be tested with clamp meter, sometimes the red wires have bigger amps than black ones.

I was testing the ground of the cell I was overcharging and that current would be pulled from is why I did it this way. Video definitely could have gone more in depth, but it’d have been waaaay longer and I was aiming to provide a more rough idea of what each was doing. That said, I do agree with your statement! It’s fairly typical to see high current on the other lines as well.

@@GloweIndustries Maybe we need part two of this for a thorough investigation especially the heltec 2A with big capacitors that yield only low current on black wire but maybe high current on the red wires.
I have a request for another experiment with these active balancer. How do each balancer behave when there is charging current of 4A, 6A, 8A being applied in the circuit. Do each balancing current be suppressed or not?

Next time I have everything set up I'll try and snag a video of the outcome.

Would the 10a heltec drain a bank if its not in use
